    Most of the pedals are priced far more than what they should be. Good to see that a manufacturer is putting out a reasonably priced pedal and other manufacturers should get aggressive to put out great lower priced pedals. Why should some pedals cost as much as a bass amp?

    • @dragostego
      @dragostego Před rokem +1

      Amps are mostly empty space, which makes them fairly simple and cheap to make.
      Not to mention most expensive pedals are made small batch in America, and any amp made that way will cost much more than 200 dollars due to overseas labor cost.

    • @OttosTheName
      @OttosTheName Před rokem

      Well... some brands can make pedals for below a tenner because they own a whole city of factories (Behringer), but most companies order pcb's in huge stacks and solder everything by hand because they haven't been around for 34 years and haven't grown to such a scale. Or because they make a niche product. Economy of scale is a huge factor here. If I want to make a pedal I'm easily paying 20 bucks in parts. Add 20 bucks in labor (that's below minimum wage), double the price for a profit, double the price so a distributor can make a profit, double the price so the store can make a profit and you can see why pedals are expensive.
      I do agree that a well known circuit from 60 years ago shouldn't have to cost more than 40 bucks to the general consumer from a big company, because companies like Caline and Behringer produce big quantities. But there are plenty pedals around that could never be made for under a 100 bucks. Also... R&D is worth something. You can't expect people to work for free for hundreds of hours and only be 'on the clock' when they are soldering.

  • @restojon1
    @restojon1 Před 3 lety +1

    I bought the pressure point some time ago, it's actually a very useful pedal. Where it comes into it's own is if you have a bass with very high output pickups or if you're running out from the bass into an EQ pedal, it just takes off "the sharp edges" if you see what I mean?
    Whilst doing this, it also channels the filtered frequencies into a more concentrated punchy sound and can be useful when used with an EQ pedal when recording as you can start to cut and boost certain areas of your tone depending on where you want your sound to be so the end listener can get the best experience with the device they are listening with.
    I'm using a Rowin mini EQ, again a cheap pedal but one that punches far above it's weight.

    • @WilDBeestMF
      @WilDBeestMF Před 2 lety

      I was looking into the Pressure Point, man. I ended up going for the Joyo Dyna Comp, which has become a life or death pedal. It's good to know that the PP is well worth a plunge.

  • @carlosmgh3
    @carlosmgh3 Před 2 lety +1

    I own the compressor and had to test it a lot to understand it, even review the waveform on the computer and then I understood what this pedal does, it is a compressor but not a sustainer at all, its JUST a limiter and a great one I would say, we bassists have to deal with volume peaks from filters and synths and this pedal now lives at the end of my chain right before my preamp and keeps all my playing at unity volume. It only works for me at almost full on all knobs but hey I'm not moving them so its fine and as a plus if I switch it off i have a nice boost in volume from my dirt pedals.
    I use 2 compressors now because the first in line does what a normal comp does but the caline is always on keeping my signal tight.

  • @Bassguitarist1985
    @Bassguitarist1985 Před 2 lety +6

    Hey! I did a teardown o the bass compressor. I agree the naming convention of the controls is confusing. Here is how it works...
    There are two compressor/limiter stages. Each one has a fixed attack/release setting of 10ms/100ms. Compressor ratios are also fixed. Estimating the 1st stage is 20:1, 2nd stage is about 6:1. ALL THESE ARE SET VALUES AND CANNOT BE ADJUSTED. I confirmed this with the schematics from Caline.
    - Description of each control:
    GAIN - Input pre-gain stage
    VOL - Post Effect Gain Stage (this is basically "make-up gain", but IMO could use more gain)
    COMP - Overall signal level to the side chain circuit for the two compressor stages
    ATTACK - Level to 1st compressor/limiter stage, essentially a peak limiter
    SENSE - Level to 2nd compressor/limiter stage, a familiar bass compressor feel.
    ***the more CW you turn these knobs, the lower the threshold for the stages to engage compression/limiting.

    i bought the Wine Cellar and it came with the XLR was flipped 180 degrees. Made it difficult to unplug as the jack (going to my amp) would get in the way. I had to flip it over myself. Also it doesn't take any phantom power. I have to power it from the power input jack all the time.

But all their bass drives sound like farts to me, none of the drive knobs are subtle or as he put it no earlier gain, and I've seen Jo Bass's reviews on both the wine cellar and press pass (their other D.I.) and I think btw had better sound quality, so I could hear the preamp better in this, either way that delay was slick and all the settings, may have to get one to experiment with! But the other overdrive should probably only be a boost to give you some more tone, not really suitable for high gain drive, and may get the pressure point at some point, not many reviews on that pedal unfortunately. Also I heard of these pedals though wish haha
