The reason these zips kill the bosses is because when he zips far enough away, the platform despawns, making the bosses start to fall. The game has a set timer where you fall for a max 13 seconds. When the 13 seconds is over, you automatically die. When he melees, the timer resets, causing the second phase to start, forcing a tp back allowing him to zip again to kill maliketh, or allow elden beast to keep falling.

this speedrun is especialy impressive because dist does 13 frame perfect zips which are extremely hard to pull off back to back consistently and a few megazips to kill the bosses effectively making it a no boss fought run the malekith skips is especialy hard because you need to be extremely precise otherwise you will die or fail the run

I love the velocity machanic, it is a primary reason for the equipment load needed for heavy. It makes it go further due to the weight. Makes sense in reality but the outcome in game is quite shocking. I wonder what an even higher weight would give, I assume 8% is the best possible to get and still be successful.

the reason the boss kills itself is because he's trying to make teh player take a hint.

Speedruns, at least Dark Souls, are based off of in-game time, that stops whenever you enter a loading screen. That's why the timer pauses every so often, because it's reading the in-game time. It also allows users with low-end PCs to stand a chance.

I genuinely do not understand the people who are upset by these glitch runs. It's such a different and interesting way to see the game be progressed. These types of runs have been in the speedrunning community for it's entire history. Plus I bet these speedrunners have finished the game legit
as someone who watches oOt,windwaker,and kh2 speedrun I found it very unintertaining.i do respect their runs and I'm sure its hard to pull off and very rewarding and entertaining for some. I'm just not too big into no combat,teleporting speedruns.

you can see it there. Dist2 have like 100+ hours total in the game. The amount of hard work and effort they put to find and test these glitches exceeds the efforts of what a "normal" player use to play the game (normally).

@Asmon, how zips work:
He changes resolution to get a higher framerate. Zips happen when some animations bugg out using the blocking and walking animation at the perfect time. If the framerate is higher than 60fps this is alot easier, so they lower resolution to guarantee higher rates while they are streaming and recording at the same time. The shorter it takes to time the movement input with the block animation, the further the zip, thats how they control it (thats why sometimes he resets it by walking further I think) :)

Maliketh needs to die for the elden beast to load I believe. We're getting close to the fastest you can get.
@@jamesleibee890 in theory finding a ZIP straight to Maliketh is possible and there will always be optimization on new ZIPS to kill him quicker potentially so if that happens I could see the games time maybe drop down to 4-5 minutes people are really pushing to find new ZIPS every day so it’s 100% possible.
This is the hardest zip in the game so it will take time to get right but learning to zip just makes the game about ~10 minutes long
@@meru8348 To what I know, Farum Azula doesnt load until you in there, so unfortunally, a zip straight to Maliketh is impossible. I mean, it is possible, but it just wouldnt achive anything as you would clip down trought everything.

Don't know why Asmongold is being sarcastic about Elden Ring being GOTY because of what speedrunners do. The game is definitely glitchy and buggy and has several flaws, but to base the polish of the game on what any% speedrunners exploit is disingenuous. That's literally their whole schtick. An average player will most likely never experience any of these exploits without watching these videos.
Asmon chat also kinda smooth in the brain for saying "how is this interesting?" Who fucking knows? Seems interesting enough that there's an entire community behind it and just because you, personally, on your high horse, don't like it doesn't mean there's no audience for it. The adventurer never saw you. Your death was just the collateral them flying through the air breaking the sound barrier.

done some QA testing and I can say the advantage speedrunners have is massive numbers and no need to file reports. Jokes aside a QA test team can only do so much and the main job is to help make the game as smooth and seemingly bug-free (no game is ever Bug-free there will always be bugs and glitches) for the Average player. Still, every QA tester is a speedrunner at heart every QA team I have been on always competes to see who can beat the game we are testing as fast as possible. Also, the suits in management make our job harder as they think in terms of money, not game design, and many a time they dismiss our concerns and just release games before they are really ready. did not use to be like this but Digital distribution has made most suits think they don't need to pay proper QA testers and just let the public do it instead and call it early access. The dawn of the Day one patch has made the industry change massively in how it approaches game development and not always for the better.

The whole maliketh fight might be my favourite asmongold moment ever, and I've been watching this homie since he was teaching me how to solo dragon soul bosses
Taken from the comments of one of one of the runs.
An explanation of the insanity that is this run:
First off, this is an any% unrestricted speedrun which means the game must be beaten by any means humanly possible. This is done on current patch (1.03) because it is the most stable
The star of the show in this run are the zips. A zip is performed by guarding and then walking at a specific time afterward for a specific number of frames. These are frame perfect. The zip is caused by the specific way the walking and guarding animations overlap. Zips are reliant on hardware (and are therefore only allowed in unrestricted runs) and lower resolution makes them more consistent. Macros are not allowed, these are done manually.
The class chosen is the Vagabond because with the halberd equipped the character is heavy which allows for farther zips.
Exiting and reloading is used throughout the run to skip some animations and because the leaderboards are based on in-game time. So even if exiting and reloading to skip an animation takes more time than the animation does, quitting saves time as far as the speedrun is concerned.
The first objective is getting to the Four Belfries. There is a zip to Stormveil from the starting location. Then, from Stormveil to Raya Lucaria. Here the zip is aimed into the terrain to bounce in the correct direction with the right amount of distance height. Finally, a zip from Raya Lucaria to Belfries.
The Belfries are important because one of the gates goes to Farum Azula. Farum Azula cannot be zipped to because it is not loaded in unless you get there legitimately. After going through the gate, a wrong warp is performed. A wrong warp can be performed in a few different ways. In this run, a memory of grace is used to return to the grace that has just been teleported to, and then the game is force-quit. This causes the game to lose track of the player's location but it knows the player should be in Farum Azula and so it places them in the default Farum Azula location.
In Farum Azula, there is a zip as far into Farum Azula as you can get and then running to the second zip location. This zip goes all the way to the Maliketh arena.
Zips are used to kill Maliketh. It takes three zips to kill each of Maliketh’s phases. A short zip is performed up to a ledge. Another short zip is performed to get outside the arena. Then, a long zip is performed to get enough distance to kill Maliketh. At a specific point in the fall, a plunging attack is performed to extend the fall timer so that Maliketh will die before the player. Again, this set of zips must be performed twice.

This is the oddest reaction ive ever seen to a speed run.
Speedrunners never had any reaction during the whole run, but when they see the timer at the end of the run they explode. Its like a hack for the brain you store a lot of stress and then release it.
This video sent me through an over 2 hour deep rabbit hole of super mario speed runs and glitches
a long time ago that was ocarina of time speedruns did the same for me. Speedruns are so interesting.

@@arcticbreeze1861 During the blocking idle animation for certain shields and weapons there's a moment where the animation loops, you need to do a frame perfect movement input roughly when the animation loops.
If you want a proper explanation that goes into proper detail you should watch Daravae's videos about it, the glitch is basically reliant on 60fps so for some people it is impossible

Anyone who says this isn’t mind-blowingly impressive or that this is because of bad game development is the living embodiment Dunning-Kruger effect. You would stand in one place and try doing this for hours and not get it once. Maybe only fighting game players can appreciate the gravity of «frame perfect», as I don’t know what other genre is that unforgiving sometimes.
people always forget how much time it takes to get this right. I watched speedrunners many times and seeing them practice a single setup for 3+ hours is insane.
when the "zip" was first discovered as a possibility for speedruns, no one had even gotten it intentionally yet, there was just this random clip of someone doing it accidentally. After seeing that I spent like 40 minutes trying to recreate it without literally a single success, and I'm sure thousands of others did the exact same. After that I didn't follow the speedrunning scene at all, until I watch this vid. And holy fuck this glitch has come a LONG way in just like a week?? This is insanely impressive, big props to the people who spend an unimaginable time finding this stuff

@@HauntedOath Yes. People can pog out because they're impressed by the guy skillfully breaking the game, but it's boring to watch, because you only see him teleporting around for 7 minutes. It's as entertaining as watching an Any% speedrun of Half Life where they just load the last map through console commands.

Some guy in chat said "why cant he play the game like everyone else". Which i find quite funny. I dont know how this chatter things that everyone should play the game as he likes.
So for those who dont understand how he beat the bosses, in case of maliketh and the draconic sentinel when he Zips accross the map into the air the platform in wich the bosses are dissapear making them fall to their death, thats why in maliketh he has to do it twice because the transformation is obligatory and in case of Horaah Loux and radagon and the elden beast when he goes at the entrance at the erdtree radagon spawns and godrick is there, when he zips godrick falls so does Radagon amd the elden beast, when he respawn since godrick falls now is horaah loux but the elden beast fell off the map so he just dies to spawn in tje boss room, i know i phrase this wrong but it kinda explains

@@lejamesbron4055 people hit many frame perfect tricks back to back in other games. It's not stupidly hard considering its all the same trick over and over again. In fact, only a few months later someone did just that.

@@Juanus14 Pixel perfect and frame perfect tricks are stupidly hard even more so if you need to do both at the same time. Even if some people make them look easy, they are fucking ridiculously difficult tricks to perform consistently. Speed runners are a different breed.
@@Juanus14 the wr right now wasn't even perfect, there was like 3 failed zips, but the route has changed a lot now so i can see a perfect run being easier. but the old route we see in the video with all perfect zips would have taken serious time and fails.
