  • r/Askreddit In today's episode, users recount stories of strangers they will never forget, like a homeless guy who's been torn from his family and is desperate to perform a simple act of kindness, as well as a helpful stranger who returned a lost wallet without taking any of my money. You also get to hear my insane dog alien rant, which is even more ridiculous than it sounds. If you like this content, be sure to subscribe for more daily Reddit content!

    • @anna8328
      @anna8328 Před 2 lety +2

      Also in extended cut it's revealed that aliens send Jesus to Earth. R/Slash understood aliens at the time as his mind was working not on movie specifically, but on aliens as aliens - like in Solaris. How they will be so different from us. So that's what he focused on. However that is not in line with the movie:D In the movie it clearly is shown ALL aliens care about it is that humans are capable of love, sacrifice and all that. We killed Jesus, literally. So they assumed there is no hope for us - until Butch decided they can't let this alien civilization they know nothing about at the ocean's bottom be destroyed by the nuke because of one nutjob's actions who insists those aliens are Russians. He volunteered to die to save creatures who weren't humans and he had zero knowledge about them other than his ex wife (because it was an ex wife!) thought they're awesome. And down he went. And when he went, he send his wife a text from this device he had attached that he knew it was a one way trip and that "love you wife" effectively claiming their divorce to be invalid, that they are married still regardless of what happened. This is what aliens saw and what made them change their minds. Abyss is also a movie I saw as a kid and it created my sense of what good movies have to be, what level a movie needs to be on to be considered good. And I loved the idea when I understood it:)

    Lol, the dog alien rant was amazing! The cats loving museum exhibits with lasers and giant yarn balls made me laugh. As a cat lover, though, I'm here to vouch for cats. We might also consider that aliens would be highly aloof, or maybe they just don't deal well with constant love and affection. Perhaps they wouldn't find meaningless attention validating, and would rather know that they earned a creature's bond with them. So, I present to you: cats! Cute and fluffy assholes. Plus, aliens would most likely need to be highly intelligent to travel to our planet, and it's been shown that intelligent people tend to gravitate towards cats. So, maybe cats will save us from imminent destruction. Tbh, if I was an alien, I'd ask for all of the animals.

      I can absolutely relate to that. I have a lot of abandonment issues from my past (won’t go into that) and one day I was at a conference with a group I volunteered with. At lunch, I texted one of the group members to ask what the lunch plans were, only to find out that the entire group had left the area to go eat at different restaurants, and no one had told me or realized I was the only one left out. That hit me hard, and despite being in a public place, I just sat down on a short wall, sobbing uncontrollably. Most people around avoided me, but one girl in her early 20s came up to me and sat with me, offering comfort. I don’t remember what we talked about exactly - only that she was a complete stranger to me, but I felt more consideration from her than I did from the whole team I’d come with. I still remember her name, and I still get emotional when I think about the incident. Never take for granted what a seemingly small gesture can mean to someone else.

    I used to randomly walk up to people and compliment them, both guys and girls, when they had a cool haircut or a cool shirt or whatever. Many people were happy, many were irritated. Once a guy just gave me a death glare when I told him his pink hair looked really cool. That was weird af. What really stuck with me though was once, when I was at a club, I saw a really tall dude with a cool shirt with some bigbang theory image on it. I told him that I liked his shirt. He looked me up and down, gave me a stare like I was some kind of trash, then he leaned to the left and pointed to his open mouth, making a gesture like he wanted to puke. What the actual fuck. He might have been drunk, and I might not be a pretty girl, but that was REALLY unnecessary. I wasn't even trying to flirt or even start a conversation, I just complimented his shirt.
    Needless to say, ever since that day I never give strangers compliments (unless they have a cute dog with them uwu)

      I think a lot of women are afraid to give guys compliments because the guy may then assume she's hitting on him and start pestering her, calling her a tease and worse when she says that, although she said something nice, she's not interested in banging him.

      The guy with the pink hair might have thought you weren't genuine and were being a sarcastic bitch perhaps. Tall guy is probably an ashole, but perhaps he thought it was you trying to hit on him and he was "sick of that" ;P
      I also try to give compliments to people when they pop in my mind, but because I can be really spontaneous, original and enthusiastic about it I luckily haven't had anyone question my credibility yet. But I think I couldn't stay mad at them for long, since if they experience a world where genuine compliments don't exist, they are worthy of nothing more than pity.
      I hope this train of thought might kick your confidence back up a bit, since you are obviously a good person and don't deserve it to be pulled down by people like that.

    8 years ago I had depression and postpartum a fairly dark place. i battled with suicidal Thoughts daily. My son at the time was a toddler. I brought him to some kid play place. And he was playing with another toddler when their grandparent came up to me. At the time I felt like my son would be better off without me. Out of nowhere this grandpa was telling me that his grandchild Lost his mother And asked about her cried about her and missed her so much. I was shocked that a stranger came up to me and told me this when at the time I was thinking that my kid be better without me. It was a wake up call my child would not be better off without me. My son loved me and would notice if I was gone. This day I still feel like it was a personal message from God. Showing me exactly what I needed to hear in order to get help.

    My stranger I'll never forget story:
    Ive had clinical depression for a while and had recently been really struggling due to some personal issues. I decided to use the suicide lifeline chat one night because I was really feeling awful and don't like phone calls. So I go on and I talk to this woman named Anastasia and we talked for like hours until I was way too tired to keep talking. She made me feel a lot better and even if we would never talk again I felt like maybe she would think of me every once in a while. Well the next night I fall back into the same depressive state and go on the chatline again and lo and behold I connect with Anastasia again. This was the first time either of us had met the same person twice and it was exactly what I needed. We talked more, she felt like a mom to me by the end of it. I think about her a lot when I'm struggling and I'd like to think she at least remembers me as the kid she talked to twice if nothing else.
