    Sporty may not be a word you'd use to describe any Buick of recent memory. In fact, unless you're familiar with the much loved Buick Regal of the 70's and 80's the notion of a turbocharged Buick might seem strange. And yet there was a time when Buick was a brand for drivers who really liked to drive. After a several year hiatus the Buick Regal has returned with a renewed sense of sportiness, refinement and yes, an optional turbocharger.

    This whole lexus vs GM thing is crazy. A new Lexus IS in its most basic form will run you around 40k. With this you get pretty much the same thing but at around 25k. People cannot accept that GM is starting to put out a good product that can compete. Not to mention the reliablity and cost factor. working at a lexus dealership i have seen how un reliable they can be and how expensive they are to fix. With American cars they dont break as much and when they do they dont cost as much to fix.

    I wasn't crazy about this design at first, but it's starting to grow on me. Should be more interesting once they put the 6 speed manual in with the turbo four.

    I always thought The regal was a re-badged Malibu. But this actually way better, even thought it have the same problems as always. One its as small as the Malibu, and its a product of GM. GM hasn't made any good cars since the 70's. They've made so much crap they started to bringing their foreign badged cars over to the USA to make a profit. First the re-badged Holden/Pontiac G8/soon Chevy Caprice, now the Opel/Buick Regal

    I can agree toyota is very reliable i have owned several. Brands like Lexus, Acura, Infiniti do nothing but take the vehicle from the parent company and then add way to many extras which all eventually break. Lexus ES is just a Camry with more bells and whistles. The more crap u put on the more there is to break. Not saying GM doesnt do the same thing but not half as much.

  • @ThousanWhite

    Wait, why would they comparing this to BMW 3 or Infiniti G? The Regal starts at $27k and those cars are at least $7k higher starting. The Regal competes with the Volkswagen CC, Jetta, or Acura TSX...

    @rickerbycourt buick is a mid-level car, Is a mid level car in GMs range above the Chevrolet, but below the Cadillac. They did upgrade the interior, and bells and whistles to fill the midrange position. " Having seen some of the tat the rest of the US car industry produces however, I can understand why its considered a luxury car over there." howmany of said cars sold for more than $20,000?

  • @1waffleiron

    They should have kept the concept cars front bumpers, they lloked way better than the one implemented here. The car just looks a bit boring from the front IMO. If they would have kept the original sporty aspect of it I think it would have done a bit better at attracting the younger generation of luxury buyers that they are after.

  • @CapitanBluebeard
    @CapitanBluebeard Před 13 lety +1

    @xjado321 Luxury cars in general are not reliable due to the many added features. ( more on a car more to go wrong with it) But as far as lexus goes i have seen people drive out of the dealership brand new Lexus GX and come back and have 5 dash lights on all related to electrics. I will admit Lexus is better than say... Mercedes, BMW, Audi and Land Rover AS FAR AS REPAIR COSTS GO. Because most of the parts are toyota parts. but beacuse more is put on the car the parts arent as reliable.

    Uh, KBB, they had turbocharged Regals (the GS) all the way through 2004. And even the naturally aspirated LS version had a 200hp, 220ftlb V6 engine that blows the craptastic Ecotec I4 out of the water. I've test driven this car - it's slow as hell.

  • @bmwmsport11
    @bmwmsport11 Před 12 lety

    yeah,i dont think a buick would ever beat the reliablity of a lexus/toyota.lexus may have to watch out,but i think they wouldnt worry much Lol and i personally think a buick competes more with upper-trim toyotas like avalon and camry XLE, lexus competes with cadillac. if the toyota nameplate doesnt compete with the buick,than i think toyota doesnt make a brand to compete with buicks calss which is a entry brand-premium class.i have nothing against newer GMs,but i just think a GM cant beat toyota

    Too many buttons...
    And its not a sports car if there's no manual trim level. Yes you shift up and down but still has a torque converter...not a clutch.
    nvm there's one planed but still 2.0L turbo is a bit small for that sized car although 220hp is not horrible. Rather have the 3.5L V6 sport 6 speed manual ford fusion. Our 2008 Ford Fusion Se 3.0 auto is an amazing car for the price.

  • @valeriy1987
    @valeriy1987 Před 13 lety

    I really tried to like this car, but 0-60 in 9.9 sec on a base and 8.4 on a turbo that is just laughable. I guess that is what you get if you fit 2.0t engine in a car that weights more than a moon. My old 02 rsx would smoke this "sport" sedan (or coupe). Also great build quality @4:56. I'm currently on a market for a decent car in 30k range, almost definitely will get 09-10 g37xs

But yeah lol gm can't design a decent car themselves without having it to be imported lol. American car my ass it screams german...

    @CapitanBluebeard The Regal is a Opel Insignia Made in Germany with another badge (and minimal design changes but still roles out of the same factory..) in general GM cars no matter whatt brand aren't as good as the Ford cometitors or those from many European or Japanese firms. (my personal opinion mixed with personal experience)

  • @bmwmsport11
    @bmwmsport11 Před 12 lety

    yeah but the lexus will out run the buicks engine. your compairing the wrong brand class. lexus is a luxary brand of toyota and GM is a group of chevy, buick etc. buick is not a luxary brand and more of a premium chevrolet type. therefore, the price and reliablity will be better than a luxary lexus. like if you compaired a toyota to a lexus, even though they come from the same maker, the toyota still is more reliable. i dont hate buick, but i think it would not beat a toyota/lexus in reliablity.

    @Raffix394 Před 13 lety

    @CapitanBluebeard "All do the same things" what are you talking about? Rebranding? Not everyone other firms use the same platform for different cars but at least most of the cars also look different like VW for instance the Audi A1 is based on the Polo but you wouldn't see that from the outside. Anyway that's not my point. My point is that GM cars are pretty much crap, and the company wouldn't exist anymore without (illegal) gouvernment help.

    and americas let me say something that most drivers in world know but seems to me you live in bubble. GM cars a cheaper because they have lower standards in car manufacturing. that why lexus is so expensive, or merc, bmw, audi. GM cars dont handle and fuel economy isnt economy. its 100 years old v8.buy jetta, golf(rabbit in us), nissan.if you want best buy go dor new wv polo.its like 3-5L/100km
