I noticed that while playing recently and was kind of delighted by it. SMB3 takes more from SMB2 JPN than most people realize. It's also not a huge drop in difficulty by the end of the game -- especially in the Japanese version where it's two hits and you're dead. I think SMB2 has the better level design though. There's too much fluctuation in difficulty in 3, and a lot of worlds 7 and 8 just aren't fun.
The king in world 3 got turned into a Kappa. If you were Japanese, you would know exactly what it was at first glance. It makes sense too cus world 3 is a water world.

100% is basically just "all levels". It is impossible to collect all items in the game, as you can't even get to all mushroom houses because you lack the amount of Hammers to do so. But yeah, the category name could be a bit misleading I suppose =).
It's impossible to beat all levels as Small Mario. Such as 6-5, 7-F1 and 8-F. There was an old Tool Assisted Speedrun which started and finished all levels as Small Mario, but you'll need to obtain power-ups in order to beat them and then take damage. Dennis Reynolds In both 6-5 and 7-F1 you need to fly in order to beat the level (Well, 6-5 can be beaten with a wall clip, which can't be done as Small Mario anyway). At the start of 8-F there are blocks you have to break, which can't be done as Small Mario. Small only in general wouldn't be that interesting either. It's different in Super Mario World where you'll then be required to do a lot of fancy tricks and that many levels are otherwise flown through. For SMB3, it will be mostly the same run + jump with Small Mario as if you had Fire Mario, just that it will be slower.
Tompa A I guess as a viewer, I would be more interested in seeing it as it forces you to minimize mistakes when taking damage. I feel like it would be a little tougher personally.

Yeah for speed. The toad houses (including the white ones) the spade cards/N-Spade cards, and of course the treasure ships add unnecessary time. So it's a lot faster to just fight the Hammer Bros. head-on. One more thing, the 3 of the same cards will slow down things as well.

He beat it afterward. It's a hammer bros that transforms into the ship. So, you can think of it as one level with two forms.
