Big Jon is more of a hero than most people know. He had shoulder surgery and flew against medical advice to attend this event. Good run and always like his up beat attitude. Everyone needs to check out his stream.

I remember the first time I played Lost Levels in the early 90s, I probably spent about 3-minutes playing and never returned. This guy makes it look easy; but it is truly troll version of Super Mario Bros.

It truly is Troll land. I played through this on MY PHONE! And I somehow managed to beat it
I played this on the Wii and 5 years later I’m stuck on 8-4.
Jon speedran both the Famicom and NES version. He's fucking awesome at it and real funny too. He also flew there, as mentioned in another comment, against medical advice, due to a surgery in one of his shoulder. A great guy in speedrunning. Nice to see how he understands that speedrunning is a media of entertainment.
Absolutely killed it! Commentary was very entertaining as well, Jon has a lot of charisma!

This is the way speed running should be. It is all about the FUN and the enjoyment. Big John brings me back to why I love video games, and how I used to play them as a kid. He perfectly captures the essence of it all. Much love, great run!

Finally beat Lost Levels for the first time tonight, and had to come back and watch this run again. And man, you crushed this Big Jon. An instant GDQ classic right here.
this guy keeps it classy. smooth commentary. smoother playstyle. well placed bits. sharp wit with the couch commentary. if only every run could be so entertaining
"Game rewards you for speed".. He was like a speeding bullet through one of the hardest games I've ever played.. Really cool runner and stock in egg rolls is up I just checked.

The Bowser music playing in a regular sky level is what anxiety feels like.
I also loved how this game messed with you by making it difficult to get fireballs and then more-likely-than-not, punishing you for doing so. Too many times have I accidentally killed a Koopa Troopa I needed to stomp on to clear a gap. Too many times...
