You are a genius, I have been trying for the last 3 months and changed so straw bottles but I tried this trick and it worked in 2-3 attempts 😅
So happy now I can travel without worrying about which bottle would work better ❤️🙏👍👏

How old was he when you started this? My daughter is almost 13 months and SCREAMS for at least an hour anytime I give her anything but the bottle. I’m feeling super defeated lately but definitely will try this!!

You have to keep encouraging her and make it fun. My husband would sing a song with pause breaks in between because she could use a straw cup after I taught her how. She cried too but we were consistent. Also, every time she drank from it I would cheer like I would potty training. She was so proud of herself afterwards.

Mine is not working. I try to suck from it, and it takes a lot of force for the liquid to go through

This is how I taught my second child how to use a straw cup and she used the same weighted straw cup in different colors including pink lol. She never used a sippy cup because she kept biting it and I couldn’t teach her how to use it like a straw cup

The sippy cup looks le the Munchkin brand "Any Angle Click Lock Weighted Straw Trainer Cup" On Amazon it's 5.65$ ish & it looks like available for prime shipping too!
Take the following w/ a pound rather than grain of salt as we're a baby led weaning + Montessori/Attachment parenting household so almost all of our baby items & methods are based around working w/ Wolfcub's sensory feedback loops so she learns independently. (Sort of like "hacking her body's natural developmental stages" to work make learning easier/better)
I'm OBSESSED with the EZPZ feeding system. Their plates, utensils, cups, bowls etc are all designed to work w/ how babies need sensory feedback loops to learn independently! Eg for teaching baby to drink from a cup or cup + straw w/ low mess would be the EZPZ tiny cups & Mini cup + straw. The cup itself is designed to allow a "nipple like latch" around the edge of the cup that will naturally transition to proper lip closure around the rim of the cup. The well of the cup is weighted and angled in such a way to once again facilitate the natural transition from a suckle to how we as adults drink from cups.
Their straw cup has a tight lid that's pretty sturdy for meal & play time. The straw itself has EZPZs sensory nubs that naturally tell baby to close their lips on the straw & suck using the entirety of their mouth, tongue & throat muscles.
Both of these cups are great for promoting independence but more importantly proper lip closure & proper oral development. Wolfcub, my 17 mos old, was able to learn to drink from an open cup by 6 mos (she sat up & stole a forkful of my dinner at 3.5 mos and we started baby led weaning w/ pediatrician approval shortly thereafter) and it took her 72 hrs to master a straw. Now she carries a 16oz mason jar of water during the day & has an open cup during meal times!
I think I can count the number of messes/spills on one hand thanks to EZPZ & Ms. Dawn SLP + Baby led Wean Team on Instagram for that (they both also have a blog!)
