nice..I'm looking at this for wiring up my house. Have 1gb internet which I want to push to 2gb and wireless/powerline performance is nowhere close to wired. So gonna wired a minimum of 2 ports into each of the rooms and 4 ports into my main office so I can take full advantage of the 2.5gb internet speeds. Don't think I need the POE version as I'm simply plugging PC, consoles, media devices into it.
The 16 MAX POE would be perfect for me in my apartment. Just need them to make a Flex Mini 2.5Gbe(POE powered).
what would the 2.5 be used for? NAS?
The problem with this device is to be able to get your hands on one. These are almost always sold out
Check out Unifi Notify from crosstalk solutions. It works pretty well. B&H photo video might also have some stock when others are out.
Not really a complaint because everything new is likely going to be out of stock. People say the same thing about the u7 ap and the G5 dome yet I bought both in the first week of release.
Patience is a virtue as these are prosumer parts
I didnt understand Unifi in that Case.
All they have to do is to use the case from the 24port with power supply, engineer and take another Systemboard, pull it into case which less Holes.
Also Unifi:
We engineer an external (?!) Power Suplly,
we engineer an Case that is absolut no Standard,
we engineer an over-enginieered Rack mount Kit.
and then we sold it fpr less than the 24.
but plus the RM Kit.... äh.
I missed the logic in these product design😂
Yeah it seems like they didn’t really design this for rack mounting and wanted to give a desktop version of the switch. I think that’s the primary intention. And it’s nicer to have a smaller switch if it’s going on a desk like a studio. The wall mount is a clean design although, seems like a very limited use case?
No point. They don't sell, or ship, to Australia.
Went for the non-PoE version. I will use the injectors I already have because I want my switches to be fanless. Really hate the high pitch sound.
The Pro Max 16 PoE is also fanless ;)
@ApexOneTech Ah, I didn't know that😅. Ah well, saved some bucks, non-PoE doing great and temperature is fine. Last part is always some issues with ubiquiti and the fanless devices.
I think you are better off mating a UDM Pro with Pro Max 16 POE for the same price as a UDM SE with Pro Max 16 (non POE) . Especially since switch ports on UDM share 1 GB bandwith to UDM router. For future Wifi 7 access points you will want 2.5 GB PoE on potential 10 GB (SFP+) bandwidth back to UDM.
Good point. Interesting that both come in at $827. The only thing is the SE comes with that 2.5 WAN. And although you won't get those speeds on the 1G PoE ports on SE like you said, you can pass it along the SFP+ to another switch and giving you headroom above the 1G limit. Here's a good diagram of the UDM Pro (and SE would be similar with 2.5): ubntwiki.com/products/unifi/unifi_dream_machine_pro
Thanks for the tip!
nice... like the light action ..Question you would use the switch after all your ports from the router is full?
For home use, yeah. Let me know your home details, I can point you in the right direction.
if you don't rack mount it, would you recommend to use a patch panel or connect the cables straight to the switch?
In general, you want to use a patch panel for any kind of permament rack install or for a commercial space. A patch panel is not a requirement for any functionally but is used in a product environment to keep a network rack reliable and easy maintained. For home use, you can definitely patch in directly.
I have been checking the Ubiquiti store and can't seem to find this switch in stock. Did you purchase through the Ubiquiti store or Amazon?
I prefer the UI Store. Amazon is usually more expensive but sometimes the same price. Shipping varies as well since you may or may not have Amazon Prime and the Amazon seller might not be selling it with free shipping. I search google when I can’t find it.
@@ApexOneTech thank you for your response. I keep checking everyday trying to find this in stock, I guess I can keep checking .
What size switch is it 1U?
Yes, 1U.
