    So my current setup is a Zyxel USG110 router going to a 24 port POE switch, and from that comes out my Unifi Gen 1 Cloud key and 2 access points. Am I understanding that this UCG MAX would replace my Zyxel, and Cloud Key? If so, can I transfer my customizations I made to my Zyxel to this as I have a static IP and need to access things within my network from outside?

    hello first of all thanks for the great explanation, now, I succesfully installed 2 AP U6+, created the wifi network with windows controller, connected both AP from my PoE switch (connected to my zte isp router), everything works fine until multiple clients connects to the network, all clients can connect, but the internet is limited to a few ones, some ideas? thanks! (DHCP is enabled in isp router)

      The U6+ plus needs power that the UCG Max itself cannot provide. You need either a PoE switch added between the UCG Max and U6+ or a PoE Injector/adapter: UniFi PoE on Amazon amzn.to/48S0FtW

    Great Video... I never considered 10.1.*.* for the networks. Way easier to manage. Can you change them all after inittially setting them up and if so do you re configure all together in one go or do them one by one ?

    Hello: I have set up an Access point u6+ from the mobile phone and everything is ok. I have configured it "stand alone", and I access perfectly from the Unifi app, but it has assigned the ip to the device 192.168.1.135 and I want to change it but from the app it does not measure the option and if I try to access from a browser to the address 192.168.1.135 it does not leave me although it does respond to a ping. How can I log in and change your IP address from a browser or from the unifi app on your mobile?

    It's a cool device for smaller/home installations that want both UniFi Network + Protect, it's just unfortunate how much they're charging for storage, esp given they use relatively cheaper Kingston drives in them. It's also very disappointing that the no-storage variant does not come with a storage sled, preventing you from using your own drive without first buying one of theirs. It's a scummy up-sell tactic on Ubiquiti's part. I hope that changes in the future or they at least sell the sled at a reasonable price (it really should be included though). I'm waiting for some kind of UDR refresh (maybe a UDR Max) that I can easily recommend to friends/families, my home is already full UniFi but it's hard to recommend their current line-up for homes, at least if you need cameras too.

It would have been perfect, if it wasn't for its software suite which horribly lacks modern traffic SHAPING capability that other devices such as the Mikrotik routers via RouterOS, and Netgate via pfSense+, or EdgeRouter (UISP) offer out of the box. For me, to be unable to fine tune my own network traffic other than by setting hard limits is unacceptable. So I will never buy into this underwhelming ecosystem until Ubiquiti/UniFi ups its game.

      Yes, that's one option. I meant the latter: getting the 10 gig adapter but just using it up to 2.5. Why? Because 2.5 is enough 99% of the time.

    The Max sounds like a great product if it could connect directly to the new U7 pro with 2.5 and power it through POE. Lacking this feature is a huge miss, which could have been solved if there would have been an Max Switch with 2.5 and POE. However that doesn’t exist either unless you want to buy enterprise at enterprise prices. The form factor of the 16 port switch is too large to match with the UCG max. People who buy maxes want to avoid needing a rack.

      @ApexOneTech Pƙed 5 dny

      The UCG Max at 1TB is $350 but the UXG Max and CloudKey+ at 1TB is $400. Spec wise, nearly all the same. So your setup might be more robust, and easier to upgrade components in the future, but for $350 all in one, the 1TB UCG Max seems pretty good.

      U6-Extender would be easiest at $150 but of course is not U7. All UniFi APs basically do mesh. U6-Mesh also great option. No idea if UI is coming out with U7 versions. But consider if you really need that in the first place. If you really do, you should be able to power on the U7-Pro and mesh it.

  • @NatesRandomVideo

    Been running mine for a few weeks. The downside right now is the lack of low end 2.5G switches in the Ubiquiti lineup to pair with it. The enterprise 16 switch at almost $500 is way too high end for most needs this gateway will be handling. (Home 1 gig internet / fiber.) Additionally my particular ISP would have preferred to drop straight into a fiber SFP which is not an option here, so I had to get a media converter SFP to Ethernet. The USW Ultra needs a 2.5G version. It’s a great option for distributing 1G and boatloads of PoE (cameras) but it’s a swing and a miss for high internal data rate while mixing in a 1G fiber connection. For most folk if they don’t need massive PoE, the Lite 8 is a better option because it’s Layer 3 and the Ultra is only Layer 2. Great box. It needs the supporting switch made.

    Just one mention from my side. I run UCG Max for about some weeks now. Got it as it got out. This thing gets really really hot, especially on the side, where you see those ventilation shafts. What helped me was to position this thing vertically. But i ended up placing a noctua 120mm fan on that thing. Also: if you place it vertically the mini display will also turn. Thats a nice feature.

      How much has the 120mm fan helped the temps? Did you perform a before/after? Are you using all the ports and multiple features such as ids/ips, firewalls and vlans or is it a relatively flat simple network? Are cameras currently in your coming figuration writing to the nvme drive?

    I'm just wondering...since when it's not that much important to get Wi-Fi built-in... This is a good device, no doubts but WTF is wrong with Wi-Fi...that they don't put anymore in those extra devices but rather buy the Access Point extra and put it next to it. It would be an awesome way to put again All-in-One device, this would be perfect replacement of UDR if it had Wi-Fi built-in so it's All-in-One package. Maybe in the future...I'll still stay on a positive side...Ubiquiti is a King for me when it comes to Networking & Simplicity + Price/Products is amazing. đŸ˜Šâ€

      When you start going up in performance, you typically keep the WiFi separate. There’s still the UX but it’s not powerful at all. Very basic. With this cloud gateway max, you can put any access point. The benefit is that you can upgrade devices separately as needed. Also, typically the location of a cloud gateway is not in an ideal location for an AP anyways. You will have to stick with a UDR for now.

I can agree on this when it comes to upgrading AP's and Wi-Fi separetly it's good, though, nowdays "Modern Homes" will use AP's and Ethernet Outlets all around the place but still when it comes to costumer's perspective, would be awesome to have something like Cloud Gateway Max + Wi-Fi 6/7 for like upgrading ISP's equipment (cuz' ISP equipment is sh*t honestly) and to like give a full experience of the internet bandwidht & speed but also not many people like a lot of cables around especially not in the corner of the room to have a mess. đŸ« đŸ˜‰đŸ˜…đŸ™ƒ
