What a beauty!! I mean BEAUTY! COR, WOW, PHWOOR! … sorry, I don’t mean to sound ..odd, but she is a very beautiful woman, as well as a quite exceptional player. (Sorry Ellie, I don’t want to upset you!)

Great to see Emily back; I wondered if she would ever be seen in an England shirt again. Also got Abby Ward and Zoe Harrison back, which is great. Abby is such a smart operator in the second row. We have real strength in depth in most positions. Ellie has really upped her all-round game in the last couple of years; always very talented, now she is world class.
That crocodile roll was nasty, but red card?? Wow.

Aitchison seems to have come out of her spell at 10 better for it. Some really crisp passing there.

When I saw the squad and starting XV on Friday, my first thought was why is Sarah Beckett starting at 8 instead of Alex Matthews? Matthews is an excellent replacement, after the retirement of Shunter, whilst I fear Beckett, although a good impact player off the bench, is an unpredictable, loose cannon. She made at least two errors before being sent off after just nine minutes!

Saw the game heard the commentary and even the headline for this is Red Roses, I thought this was England playing.
It was.........
Not uncommon I'm afraid, NZ women, black ferns, AUS. women wallaroos Eng. red roses.
Shame Mcdonald and Byrne are out but we are still looking pretty unstoppable.
Kildunne is fire, Aitchison and Harrison are unplayable at times, Mo, Scarett and Packer are maturing like a fine wine, our pack is as lovely as they are formidable and Abby Dow will never have a bad game of rugby its just not possible.
Multifaceted England rescue the game from dumb indiscipline. With some sparkling talent. Kildunne has improved her game so much. Tackling, kicking, staying in touch, recycling , retaining the ball. All helped her attacking game. Others in the Team need to show that level off improvement over the 6 Nations. So much more to come. Forwards passing & retaining the Pill killed opportunities in the first half .

Not a brilliant performance though, far more ragged than at WXV. Hopefully just first game nerves. Can't wait for the next matches.
I've watched the match again and think there were some great signs of the red roses being amazing. Italy played some great rugby, they should be commended.
Took a while to burst into life, and there was some great handling and phase play in the second half. Officiating was very poor.
Holly Aitchison makes all the difference. Not sure why Harrison starts. Bring on Holly and England start scoring tries.
Holly has made a great transition from 7s into being the best English fly half in the 15s game. Her kicking in the WXV in NZ was brilliant. Whereas Zoe was one of the most consistent place kickers in the PWR but I believe she suffered an injury that affected her kicking and it showed on Sunday. I think that this team selection was very much a trial and by no means the finished article.
Emma Sing would be my first choice 15 ( she is on fire for Gloucester) and I would be tempted to try Ellie Kildunne at 11/14
Can only see a Roses Championship. Yeah anything can happen in sport i.e the team you picked don’t pull it off due to their opponents being better OTD however, won’t be happening v the Roses as they’re 🔥
Not our cleanest game in many respects, they will need to do better.
But a win is still a win, well done.
Harrison needs to spend the week on goal kicking, so many misses.
Big girl falls on little girl, little girl get's hurt big girl get's sent off Huh ??? High degree of danger really. Girl's head hit's girls shoulder and she get's a yellow for it. What game is this again ?
Before major tournaments there are often new rulings from World Rugby and this time referees were primed to be tough on 'crocodile rolls.' The teams would have known this, but I'm afraid that Sarah Beckett is something of a loose cannon. I didn't think it would be upgraded as the head and neck was not really involved, but they are now on a warning for the rest of the tournament.
@@whattiler5102Crocodile roll ? she cleared the girl out, but the player was so small she could not position herself as she normally would, I have seen it a thousand times in the English league players know how to tackle and how totake a tackle, the English girl was penalised for being to big and to proffessional against a amateur, that frankly should not have been on the field. If Italy cannot field players able to physically compete then the fixture should be cancelled. It's dangerous to mix part timers with proffessional players.
As to the yellow, a English players head made contact with a Italian players shoulder and was given ten minute's in the sin bin. Zero chance of anyone getting injured. It was appalling refereeing.

But I have to say that early tackle on the poor Italian woman looked very unusual, and resulted in what looks like a pretty horrible injury for her.
So that red card was very well-deserved…

@@danwilliams6650 She was very lucky then. The angle her knee made looked very strange. And if she hadn't taken very quick action, the injury would have been simply horrendous...
She wasn't injured but red card given even the second yellow towards end of game Italian player lying on floor with medics around her but as soon as card given up she gets and fit enough to play suprise surprise.
Um, she didn't actually. She was substituted shortly afterwards.
I'm referring to Dan Williams' comment about the Italian lady injured, which resulted in the red card (Sillari)
