- England duo Abby Dow and Claudia MacDonald reflect on how they combined for one of the greatest tries in Rugby World Cup history. Dow finished off a move that started behind their own try-line in the semi-final of the 2021 Rugby World Cup, setting England on their way to the final as they edged past Canada. The try really started when the pack just flooded the breakdown and secured the ball. It was probably the most exciting play I've ever seen - Canada were putting the roses under so much pressure and you can see Infante patrolling at the back, looking for a breakdown that could successfully be challenged, and Abby Ward did an amazing job of getting over the ball.... As soon as Infante came up with it and hurled that long pass out, I jumped to my feet as I knew we were about to see something really special! The roses did not disappoint!

As a long-retired rugby player, I just wanted to add that Abby Dow thoroughly deserved the accolades that she has received for her thrilling race to the try line but I feel that your vital contribution has been somewhat overlooked. The way in which you skipped and danced your way through and around a number of Canadian players was exciting and mesmerising and allowed you to make the perfect pass to Abby Dow. Brilliant!

Phenomenal score. Astonishing turn-over by the pack a few metres out from the England line then the vision and confidence to pass it wide and run it from behind the try line. Claudia's mesmerising run and perfect 20m pass then Abbs showing a ridiculous turn of pace from someone whose leg was shattered less than a year before that moment. Amazing. Have to say that as an ex-referee I have a real problem with defenders dropping on players who have just scored. Pathetic bit of petulance having just been handed-off dropping knees first onto a defenceless player. Canada no 11 should have been in the bin for that with the restart a pen to England

Great player, don't see enough of abbie skills and pace, only player I've seen outpace and run around 🇳🇿 black Ferns, real rugby 😀, we see too much of England favorite tactic, the slow rolling maul, like watching a tug o war.

Surely it was the Black Ferns try from the ends of the earth - just after halftime in the final that was the best one...this was against only Canada who has virtually zero defence on their left side....
