This is awesome! Keely is hot stuff, Prima is a ball of energy like the sun. The musicians are all top notch. I love looking at her face. Love looking at Prima prancing around. This is uplifting. It's lost to most Americans nowadays.
I remember watching them on TV with my dad when I was about 5 years old. I thought Louis was a funny guy and I thought Keely was very beautiful. I only came to appreciate their musical talents later in life and now at 58 years old,I can't get enough of their music! Amazing talents.
I saw him many times in Vegas, the very best in fun and entertainment every time. None come close to this man and his band and crew. Always worked lounge shows in Vegas but could have filled any showroom in town.
The combination of musical virtuosity and seemingly casual, loose stage act is just such good show business. Prima was supposed to be a tough-but-fair bandleader, but the musicians' natural goofiness and fun-loving routines is pretty hard to do if you're not having fun out there.
Where oh where have I been? Just watched this movie and I'm not crazy about musicals but this one needs to be in my collection. I've been living under a rock and have a new obsession. Classic and timeless at the same time. Beautiful Keely with her lovely voice and crazy Prima with his jazzy, blues and funk....in the 50's!!?? Love Love Love.
these 2 were FANTASTIC!!! my parents had their album, I knew good music listening to this. Lots of fun and they were a great pair, Keely had a great voice, and well Louie is one of a kind, a good kind!!
There is absolutely nothing like this style right now. I love all kinds of music, but there really isn't adult nightclub music. Timberlake is trying, but...
I never get tired of watching and listening to Keely Smith. Her beautiful voice and low affect were the perfect contrast to Louis Prima. I always wondered how they knew it would work.
The craziest thing is trying to figure what kind of music it is. New Orleans jazz, New York showtunes, rock 'n roll horns & drums, Sicilian music, rhythm and blues. And damn they look like they're having a blast.
Excuse me but I grew up in the 70s listening to her music through my grandparents records. I didn't just discover her over night but i'll excuse the assumption. Keely Smith was criminally underrated and should have been as big a household name as Tony Bennett or even Frank Sinatra. Instead she kinda fell by the wayside over these many long years, lost in the collective shadows of singers such as Rosemary Clooney, Julie London, and Carmen McRea. Despite being able to go toe-to-toe with any of these talented ladies, the American public, and the world at large decided to forget Keely for a time. Maybe Rosemary had more restraint and poise, maybe Julie oozed more sex appeal, and maybe Carmen had a greater degree of sophistication, but Keely had more heart. She never got the appreciation that her talent deserved, partly because Louis Prima badmouthed her to club owners after they divorced and partly because of changing musical trends. She deserved to record more and have only the best arrangers and production, instead of having to go through that awful period when great standards and jazz singers were forced to make twist albums. She was both legendary and one of the most criminally underrated singers of our time.
@@hank1519 In January 1961, Prima was invited by Frank Sinatra to perform at the inaugural gala for President John F. Kennedy; the two played "Old Black Magic" together. The constant performances and Prima's infidelities were too much for Smith. After finishing up their contract at the Desert Inn, she filed for divorce at the Eighth Judicial Circuit Court of Nevada in Las Vegas. After Keely was out of his life and his performances, Prima tried to prove that he did not need her. In the New York Post, there was a suggestion that Keely should rejoin for an act in New York's Basin Street East nightclub. Prima said, "I have no desire whatsoever to have any dealings with Keely Smith under any conditions…There is nothing in the world or no one that could ever make me accept this woman in our act.] Prima's father died in 1961, the same year as the divorce from Keely. His mother died in the winter of 1965.
Great job of sound and film editing- Louis and Keely were my favorites as a fun act. His smart musical touches with the boys were bar none and Keely's voice was always sublime. thanks
Sonny and Cher was a lot like them.I was in my 20's young and stupid in the 60's and wish I would have gone out in Vegas to see them..So sorry I missed them they was great!..I at one time had a 78 speed record with abot 12 songs on it..It was great..
Love them. Their son, Louis Prima Jr has put together a similar style band and is performing many of the same songs. He has had several different females perform with him. They are all fine singers but were smart to stay away from Keely Smith's dead pan act. Only Keely could ever pull that off. One of the very best female performers. May Keely and Louis RIP! for awhile And then get up and perform for all the Saints. Love them. Thanks for the memories.
real snappy, forever. real sharp shit. What a combo, Louie and Keely! An amazing stage show, lots of comedy, chatting with the audience back and forth, and great sounds to back it all up.
This is great! Thanks for sharing. I saw this movie when it first came out and it is good. I don't know why tv seems to have neglected showing it. Louis Pirma and Keeley Smith were great together. It might help if we all go to TCM and other tv web sites and request it. It is a good movie worth watching.
They were the hottest act in Las Vegas in their prime. They were never underrated. All the big names went to their shows at the Sahara after they did their own acts. Wasn't unusual for these guys to play till 6am.
So true! Watching a documentary on Vegas in the 50's and 60's; guys like Jack Carter said that the good acts were Louie Prima/Keely Smith or Don Rickles! BOOM!!
I lived in LV for most of my life and got to know Sam Butera - Sax player - later in his life. I loved to get him going telling stories!! What a time!I was just a kid when they were at the Sahara but my parents used to go all the time!

I saw Louis and Keely in person once. Their performance was in high gear for the entire performance. Great entertainment.
I'm jealous
Keely Smith so beautiful and a fantastic voice. Louie Prima was very lucky to have her.
Oui mais L. Prima est celui qui mène la danse
And she was also very lucky to have him..Actually we were the lucky ones to have them both and let us not forget the band...Capisc? 😉

I'm 65 and only just recently " discovered " these amazing talents !
Wow, her voice is so clear. It's ethereal.
Well, they aren't using her live voice, they record the voices, in a studio then film them for visuals
Keely...the VOICE. What a talent. She'd be at the top in any generation.
My mediocre mind is just blown away that talent like this exists in this world. So cool!
ive never seen a band have so much fun working
You've never seen Shonen Knife live then

Sam Butera & The Witnesses

This rendition is fun!! Louis and Kelly were always great entertainment.
Its often been said ..... no one ever left one of their shows in less than a happy mood.
True performers!

me and you would have been best friends
Pure talent and god, that energy...
You can get tired just watching them...
Can't beat this music.they can never be replaced.they really knew how to have a goog time.
Cool plus talent. It shines through the years.
Keely Smith is fantastic!
Great performers!!!
Louis Prima & Keely Smith the best smile duo
I love how Keeley left Louis hanging when he was dancing lol. Classic humor 🤣

@RidgeRunner Yes, you've been excused and corrected. Anything else?

It’s simply amazing how fast they change dresses ;)

I don’t understand it but her deadpan expression next to Louis Prima’s over the top energy, just slays me.

The only band who could fill the Sahara at 4am every night. Try that today with the lousy acts in Vegas.
