Louie Masinter (my father on bass), Louie Prima-trumpet, Godfrey Hirsch-vibes, Meyer Weinberg-clarinet, Frank Frederico-guitar, Frank Pinero-piano. They played famous nightclubs between New York and L.A in the late 30's during the big band era often on the same circuit as other larger, more famous name bands. While in L.A. they were in several movies. They were 3 Jewish and 3 Italian musicians playing their own unique style of music. DM

Louis Prima ... one of the GREATEST jazz artists EVER! What a terrific clip ... so much talent just all over the place in this film. I love it that there is no electric plug anywhere, unlike today. Everything is entirely acoustic.

great post....1938 hell i was not even thought of. im only 23 and im a black male living in Detroit i might add. this music is unheard of where i come from...im glad i know my roots...cuz after all music is Motown. i just wish more in my generation would pay attention. but i can't blame them. no ol' school cats show us love either.

the male singer and swing dancer surely is a veeeerrrry young Buddy Ebsen. He had a great and fascinating career. During WWII he was one of those special Hollywood people (like Jimmy Stewart) who fought against the "suits" who wanted him to be bond salesmen or USO-type entertainers. After the Navy foolishly turned him down, he joined the Coast Guard and served as genuine, full service officer.

Is there a way to download this video in good quality? Do you mind sharing this with me and my brothers? that is my father, Louis Masinter on bass and we would LOVE being able to have this for all time. Daddy played with Frank Frederico on guitar and Godfrey Hirsch on xylophone for many many years and Frank attended his funeral 14 years ago. They are now playing with Louis on the big bandstand in the sky now.

Prima looked cool in the 50s but a bit creepy here. If this is '38 then jive and lindy hopping was around for along time before rock & roll got hold of it. Love those drum kits without the low cymbals obliterating everything.
