I do not know why, but this song has made me weep since I was three years old, and I am now sixty-four. And the weeping is not for sorrow but for joy, because the love of a dog---of any breed or mix---and the privilege of giving a good dog a good home are two of the chiefest blessings of life. During my adolescence, I had a Cocker Spaniel, Monica, (passed in 1986), who understood my moods better than my parents did. Now, in my old age, as I finish the course and get ready to transition to Heaven, I have a chihuahua, Zoey, who understands me better than my peers do. As a Christian, I have faith that redemption is not just for people but for all creation, as Saint Paul has said, and I look forward to the companionship of both Monica and Zoey in Heaven. And so, an old man, I weep for the joy of the promise of having a good final home, and of having even my canine loved ones with me there.
I just love this song! This song truly belongs only to Patti Page! I love this colorized video! This is the first song I ever learned how sing including all the verses and the chorus when I was 2!
Interestingly, a friend of mine were talking tonight about a Christmas song duet by Bing Crosby and Rosemary Clooney. And she also recalled this song believing it was actually sang by Rosemary Clooney. But after I researched this further, I couldn’t find a version by Clooney - mainly only by Patti Page. So after I listened to it, it reminded me of how my mother sang that song to me when I was a very young child. I was born in ‘54, a year after Patti Page’s version was released. I hadn’t thought about that song for years until my friend mentioned it to me today. And it did bring a tear to my eye when I heard it again! 😢😊
In the Netherlands this was played on the radio often, so my mother got to know the lyrics and sang along out loud every time. Beautiful to hear it again. Thanks for this little treasure.
This is the first time I have ever seen this video of Patti Page singing How much is that doggie in the window! I was born in the late fall of 1978 in Kentucky. I have seen the video with the man pet shop employee and the little boy that was made a year after this! Patti has blonde hair and is 10 pounds lighter. Thank you very much for posting and sharing this classic video of this classic song!
My grandma and her girlfriend’s worked out in the pool in palm beach while singing songs from their childhood. I would visit and this was my favorite song, she passed 2011.
A great friend just sent me this video. Last week she was helping me out and happened upon my first stuffed toy doggie. It’s a little black dog with a red ribbon around it’s neck. I surprised her by twisting its little tail as it was also a musical stuffed toy that played, you guessed it, “How Much is that Doggie in the Window?” We both sang along with it while our eyes swelled with tears. I was born in 1952.
