Her voice sounds exactly like my mother's; so clear, pure, powerful, yet soft and gentle at the same time, and angelic. My mom always sang to me, when I was a baby, and a young child. It was so beautiful and comforting. I miss her. She passed away, a few years ago, just after my 30th birthday.🤍

I was 10 years old when this came out and even after 66 years it still takes me back to a simpler more trusting time in the US, one that was about goals of hope and love we had known as a people. America has lost much since the 50s and it lifts my spirits to know that some of what was best about us as a people still survives and will never fade as long as there are those who remember where we came from, who we were and above all why we made and enjoyed music such as this.

Phil Spector was some kind of genius with his musical ideas..so sad, that he crashed and burned as an old man.

A 19 year old Phil Spector wrote and arranged this song which was #1 on the Billboard charts for 3 weeks. An auspicious beginning to a brilliant career to say the least. In the 60's and 70's...Phil was THE MAN as far as a record producer. He steered the boat on a ton of #1 hits like the Righteous Bros. "You've Lost That Loving Feeling". - Heartbreaking that later in life he went so far off the rails he somehow got convicted of murder and died in prison.

Even though Phil's life went very badly, I still believe that the woman's death was truly a manslaughter case, an accident that was bound to happen because of Phil's insistence on carrying guns and waving them around. I don't think he meant to kill her.

@@richardpatrick2852 "The woman". How charming. Her name was Lana Clarkson and she was not the first woman Spector tried to force into sex at gunpoint. Look at the man's history for goodness sake. He was a sociopath and a monster.

Good Lord, what a shock. Of course the social climate pervading the West and I suppose culminating in America, is liquor, substance abuse, illicit sex, gambling and meat eating. The modes of ignorance and passion grip the people, even the talented gifted and sincere musicians in the business. We could do our title part (which is actually big) and just drink milk, spare the cow her life, and forgo the all pervasive imported coffee, to really start all over with a more peaceful world, as Perry C hints at in this long ago classic video. 📣🥛

Phil Specter, the guitarist and song writer, would become a major record producer in a few more years. His signature sound for his recording artists, including many of the 'Girl Groups' of the early 1960s, was a "Wall of Sound". He also married Ronnie Spector of the Ronnettes.
