      @TheScarletWing2490 Před rokem +22

      The representation of a corrupt government that will pull any strings necessary to ensure their position in power is safe and unthreatened. Voldemort's return was both a threat to Cornelius' position, and a very scary thought for Cornelius in and of itself, because he truly feared him. And Harry was the one insisting he returned. Obviously given Harry's backstory that the whole world knows about, then if Harry shows up (with the dead body of his friend no less) and cries out that Voldie's back, obviously at the very least some eyebrows will rise and questions will be asked. Cornelius felt threatened by this, I mean shit look at his reaction when Dumbledore tries to reason with him, the man's literally shaking and looks like he's ready to fucking cry, and so he needed Harry silenced, so he staged the whole Dementor attack to force Harry to break the law by using Magic and then have him arrested and out of the way, cause funny how Harry has used magic outside of Hogwarts while underage before, he inflated his uncle's sister and had her flying around the sky like a balloon and nobody cared, the matter was just swept under the rug, but now after Harry tried to warn everyone of Voldemort's return, Cornelius needs him silenced, and if the opportunity to arrest him doesn't arise on its own, he'll create the opportunity himself. That was also the whole point of sending Umbridge to Hogwarts and getting Dumbledore out of the picture. He needed everyone silenced and docile, and he just needed to ignore the problem and hopefully it will go away (well that and he was convinced that Dumbledore is after his position, so he felt threatened from every angle basically, he was a cornered cowardly animal in this whole scenario) It's very telling of how people in power abuse their power and will pull any strings necessary, silence whomever needs silencing, and manipulate any situation that needs manipulating, in order to maintain their power.

      Dumbledore did take power, in the form of becoming headmaster of Hogwarts. The key difference between becoming headmaster and Minister of Magic is that the Minister was largely a political position, while being headmaster allowed Dumbledore to make positive changes in the lives of many magical students. Just reading this comment and thinking it over. If I were a wizard in the wizarding world of Harry Potter I think there are still things I would use in the Muggle world that are just simply not available in the wizarding world. Like for example I would probably I were. Dumbledore would’ve gone or searched out for a Muggle therapist who was not discriminatory towards wizards and witches and who I could talk to and talk about my problems. It’s things like counseling that’s just not available in the world of magic in Harry Potter‘s world anyway, that should be available that’s available in the Muggle world. I feel bad for Dumbledore because him having to live with the fact that he felt guilty about his sister‘s death and felt like it was his fault is really sad and it really makes me think why in the world are there no counseling services for wizards and witches in the wizarding world? so if I were a Witcher or wizard or Dumbledore in this case or either or I would probably try and find a mug therapist, I could talk to who knows about the magical world and gets some help.

    This is literally the only defense Harry needed, The Patronus Charm only effects Dementors, ergo the only reason he would have cast one in the presence of a Muggle would be to defend himself and the Muggle from said Dementor! Suck it Fudge!

    • @LittleMissRequiem
      @LittleMissRequiem Před 3 lety +7

      Nightstrike90 Not necessarily. That WOULD be the most logical reason for a wizard to cast the Patronus Charm (especially in front of a muggle as previously noted), but one could also theoretically speculate that Harry was showing off his Patronus to the muggle(s) in question. Not only is this counter-story not implausible considering how reckless teenage boys are known to be sometimes, but it looks like that may have been precisely what Fudge was trying to imply by calling Harry’s defense a “well-rehearsed story” and pointing out how unlikely it would normally be to find a Dementor in a muggle suburb.

    • @ValerioRhys
      @ValerioRhys Před 3 lety +5

      @@LittleMissRequiem If Fudge is winging this accusation based on assumptions of underage wizarding mischief, then it's still very implausible, most cases that warrant a breach in the statute of secrecy involve wizard kids casting cantrips, jinxes or hexes to bedazzle or play a prank on muggles or each other.
      The Patronus Charm isn't an underage category or minor spell you can just cast willy nilly or for fun, it's a last and probably the only line of defense against a dark and deadly creature. There are much more easier spells that produces grander and entertaining effects.
      It's not cast in an act of mischief, it's cast when you're desperate to create something that will stave off whatever horror is trying to kill you like Dementors or Lethifolds.
      That's why Amelia Bones, one of the ministry wizards attending the hearing, was amazed that Harry was able to do such a thing.
      If wizards, even the underage ones, who are in terrible danger can accomplish feats of magic that were initially thought impossible for their abilities. Then it gives more credence to the possibility that Harry was indeed trying to fend off dementors instead of trying to impress Dudley.
      But again, Fudge is biased.

    In reading this chapter in the book, I've had the feeling that Mrs. Figg rehearsed what she had to say in the court, presumably Dumbledore made her memorize them. She sounded quite unsure about what she said, and Madam Bones even had to correct her once. _Can_ the Squibs really see the Dementors?

    • @kingcamelot1395
      @kingcamelot1395 Před rokem +19

      Squibs are of magical descendant. They are not like Muggles, who have no ounce of magic in their veins. It's just that a Squib's ability to conjure magic is stunted to where it's difficult, often impossible for them to perform it. But the magic is still there, and they can see things that have been hidden from the view of the Muggle world.

    Fudge knew that he had no leg to stand on yet he was trying to make Harry as a example. The interaction between Dumbledore and Fudge reminds me of the battle that went out between Churchill and Chamerlain at the beginnings of WW 2 where Chamberlain just wanted to allow Hitler to get away with things figuring it would go away while Churchill spoke out about the truth. In the end, the truth came out and Chamberlain lost his position and probably haunted him for the rest of his life.

      That's really unfair to Chamberlain as any modern historian will tell you, he wasn't an idiot and while he certainly wanted to give peace a chance he held little delusions that Hitler would and he tried buying time for the UK and France to rearm. Also, going to war with Germany over the Sudetenland and Poland without at least attempting diplomacy would have been deeply unpopular with the British public, if not unthinkable, and would most certainly have alienated France, which really, really didn't want another war with Germany after the horrors of WW1 (Great Britain felt similar to a lesser degree).

    The problem with the Harry Potter franchise is that in every book it establishes some incredibly useful magical means of dealing with a problem, uses it once and then drops it forever. Just off the top of my head, in this scene Harry's version of the story could be confirmed with either Veritaserum, by a skilled Legillimens (there are bound to be some in the Ministry's employ), or by examining his memory of the event in a Pensieve. The trial was of course a sham and the Minister was pushing for conviction, but given the number of votes in Harry's favor, there was a sizable number of impartial members of the court who canonically must have been aware of these options and should have brought them up.

    1. First he proved that Harry is innocent in the trial.

    3. He escaped from the minister in a badass way, followed by Kingsley’s badass line: “you may not like a minister but you can’t deny, Dumbledores got style!”
