- Feeling overwhelmed on your homestead? Let's talk about that overburdened and anxious feeling of failure creeping its way into your life. It's been several years now and I've undertaken so many projects on the farm it's hard to keep track. Have a listen and comment how you handle things on your homestead or small farm.
SUBSCRIBE and help support the channel. And don't forget to drop a comment. It helps us to build this channel into something special. We're transforming this 90 acre property into a self reliant homestead and farm stay vacation rental. We're building infrastructure to accomodate future growth such as barns, duck house, 7 coop chicken house, water hydrants, planting an orchard, building a garden etc. Chickens, ducks, geese, mini pigs, rabbits, a bunch of barn cats and two old english sheepdogs make up our team here at the farm. Please follow along on our journey of transforming this place into something special.
Your honesty and genuineness is what is quickly making your channel one of my absolute favorites.
❤️❤️❤️
I appreciate you and all our farmers. No farms no food.
Big props for honesty and emotional vulnerability
That what I love about Chad and this channel…. He isn’t afraid to be REAL!!!!
You need to find a local bee keeper and have a long conversation with them. That would be your best way to get a feel for the raising of bees in your climate.
Yes that’s what I’ll end up doing. And I’d have to order the bees & equipment so I’m sure there are people that do that.
Opening up and sharing real homestead worries is great. You’re not alone. Set goals and go one day at a time. God is in the story. Live for the moments not the tasks. Ask local churches for youth group help. Pond will look great ❤Trust us we get it. ❤❤❤
Your cats love you and appreciate you. It’s awesome to see
Subscriber Day.
Were we all come out and give a Hand into helping.
Haha 👏
MJ and his girls are gorgeous! Olive is a greyhound in disguise! You are being real about all the responsibilities and time management involved. Sending you rays of sunshine for all the family 🫶
❤️❤️
Best of luck my friend we are all caged Animals running on a wheel of life till the Day we pass.
You are doing so well for yourself and the family keep it up.
I can only imagine the work and stress involved in having a farmstead, not to mention a CZcams channel. Thanks for being honest & real about it all. Wish I could spend a week being your farmhand! I adore when the dogs go driving around with you, they are so darn cute. The pond is looking great. I love the idea about a pumpkin patch. Cheers Chad 🥰
The part of " dreaming to get done" is the hardest to control. The brain is working non-stop 😅
I think many CZcamsrs are in same situation where trying to film, curate and upload content is very tough. Sometimes I start following a channel and then the vlogger just stops uploading. I always feel a little sad because I miss them. We all here appreciate how hard you work to keep your channel interesting and how much overtime this involves. My advice as a viewer is even if you have nothing much new going on, change up the focus for a few weeks just so your fans can know you are still out there. With all the vloggers I follow, I feel the host’s personality is 90% of getting an audience. The content is, of course, important, but there are fallow periods and your fans understand. I think the duck pond is beginning to take shape. It will be great! Thank you for your honesty and sharing with us.
Love the geese and ducks waddling around. Cant wait to see them in the new pool. Chad, PLEASE Don't forget to wear a good mask when you do the clean out.
My friend , please take care of yourself. You work so hard.maybe you could hire teenager for the summer? You are such an amazing teacher. It could really help a kid out . Something I have been visualizing for you😊🌲🐕🐕🐕🐕🐕sending you and your wife much love from Ohio.
You always lift my spirits.thank you so much for all you do for us!🥹
Make a small hill of rocks along the side of your pond so that if a small animal falls in they can climb out😊
My plan is to have a section with flat rocks covering the liner almost like a ramp so that would allow and small critters to get out too.
Morning Chad. My heart goes out to you. We all get overwhelmed at times and/or feel like things are out of control. You are doing things right. You are only one person. I applaud you for giving it your all every day and with a smile 99%. Like you said, take one day at a time. Be sure to get some rest as well. It's good you have your darlin taking care of you as well. We are rooting for you! 🙏
The piglets are getting so big. Amazing how fast they grow.
I can’t even imagine how you get it all done. Sometimes ya just gotta take a breath and take a break from the big projects and do your routine only. Get centered again. Look at your kingdom and pat yourself on the back and tell yourself “Well done”!
I know it can be overwhelming at times for you. You do an excellent job doing things by yourself in the building and taking care of the farm animals. I would make a list on what you are shooting for the next day. That way you are not trying to push too many things at once. I hope that helps. Loved the animals this morning. The cats were so sweet, and the dogs are beautiful and funny to watch. Hope you both have a good day. ❤😊
Fozzy could become a total lapcat I think ❤ he was purring pretty loud there!
The duck pond is coming along nicely! You are doing wonderfully alone with everything! Super farmer indeed!! All kitties want some love 😻😻
I’m happy with it so far. I’m not a pond builder but if I can at least make it look reasonable I’ll be satisfied 😉
The cats love you sooooooo much! It's so cute to see them adoring you.
You videos 📹 are a enjoyable to watch. Very perplex in a delightful way. And doing these projects "All by yourself" is crazy and daring cause You say you're new at all this farm life 🚜. Builds character and confidence. 😊🙏🏽
Aww thanks. It’s so true though, what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.
We all really appreciate all the work you do to make the animals happy and your life on the farm so happy. Thank you so much for sharing 😻
Something I learned in life is, anything worthwhile that will last and becomes sustainable at some point takes an unfathomable amount of work in the first few years (like first 5). The tricky part is finding a way to keep it going without burning yourself out 💜
I absolutely agree! When we finally moved from town to our farm, we decided to spend at least the first three years focused on specific projects -- cleaning out and organizing buildings, fencing the farm the way we wanted it so it was functional and attractive, and renovating/building structures to suit the purposes we needed them to serve. It's exhausting when I think back on it but I'm so happy we did it. We worked on those things in the summer with the promise that we would finish during that time and take all winter off. We left a space of a couple of years to just maintain and "rest" so we're now ready for the next phase.
Great video I know you and your wife work so hard and I know posting videos is so much work! Thank you so much for all your videos I have enjoyed them all
❤️❤️❤️
Spot on !... between irrigation, field management, building shelters, cleaning cleaning cleaning, rotation of animals, medical treatments when something goes wrong, handling animals so they can be managed easily, management of manure, Planting and fertilizing, harvesting, fencing repairs, care of mothers and babies being born, hatching, brooding and moving birds. once that is reached repeat.. Harvesting of animals includes moving them, butcher, cut, process and packaging. .Then of course there is normal life of laundry(more with all the muck!), cooking, cleaning, lawn management, home repairs, vehicle repairs and time with family... It is very overwhelming at times especially spring and fall. Enjoy your videos of real homestead life :). The most important part of farming and homesteading is to enjoy the blessings and the experiences that many do not get to enjoy.
OMG 😳 when you put it that way!!!!
Cats look amazing, as always. The balance between "real life" and content is tough. One way I see others solve it is by NOT doing day by day videos. Instead of a daily blog where projects happen slowly, they might film the pond construction, for example, over weeks or months and put all of that in one video. So they aren't under a daily pressure to have progress for the camera. They might also still do the daily videos. But the projects stay separate, so to speak. Either way, your videos are terrific and real treat. Thanks for sharing them with us.
I appreciate everything you do and your honesty about how challenging it is. The duck pond is looking good. I'm praying for you!
I would seriously think about getting Bobby neutered, unless you really want more baby piglets. It just seems like it is very difficult to find homes for the babies. The pond is really coming along great. I can't wait to see the finished product. Hang in there, Chad. You are doing a great job on your property. Love from Texas ❤
Your life is SO MUCH WORK!!!
That’s why I simply enjoy seeing Your Quackies & Chickies - there’s a lot of constant maintenance & cleanup even for “backyard flocks”. And my free-range cuties would poop in human areas. A coyote got them one late morning in April ‘23 when I was (rarely) gone. ❤ Janet
❤❤❤
Wow! All the animals you take care of, all the projects and work you do, amazing! You should be SO proud of yourself! I can't imagine even doing a fraction of what you're doing.
🎉Der Teich sieht schon sehr gut aus 🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤
Da werde die Enten und Gänse schauen😅😂😂❤🎉
Spitzenmäßig Chad🎉🎉🎉❤
it's a lot of work for one person. in italy there's a word agriturismo, which mean holidaying at a farm and help out, you know get to taste the lifestyle and fooad and board depending where you go, but maybe that's something for you too? in switzerland there's bee barn like huts and it's cold there too . the bee keeper can go inside and access the beehives from inside
Yes that’s something I’m thinking of for the bees, I’m sure I could build it too.
love yr channel! Dont know how you find time to fit in all your chores and projects, the farm is so impressive.
Kia Kaha. You are doing a marvelous job.
Chad, you're one amazing man. You do a great job on the farm and by yourself. The love you show to the animals.
Did you put up a new post for the pigs?
Ok, well, know you're one of the best CZcamsr out there... please don't dispare about getting your work done.tomorrow will always come. Plus thanks for being so honest.
Agreed, there’s always tomorrow.
I think you’re doing great! And I appreciate all your videos and honesty!
We’re just starting out on 3 acres. My kids are 4, 2, and one due in August. We have rabbits. We’re getting our first chickens next month and my husband has been too busy at work to build a coop yet, so we aren’t even close to ready yet. I have an almost 8,000 sq ft grass area that is going to be my garden but I cant just till it all into a garden in one go, so I’ve been trying to just do a little bit at a time since I’m pregnant. I make 1 video a month. I am totally with you on feeling overwhelmed. But the benefits to our families are so worth it!
I see Mango still has t let you get his collar on him…. I got an idea for ya… instead of trying to put it on him like normal, go ahead and connect it but connect it the biggest it will go…. Then slip that on over his head… once it’s on, you will be able to tighten it up….
When picking up your fur babies… make sure you keep their feet on something and not loose in the air… that makes them panic…. My Lily was EXACLTY like your guys…. Now I can pick her up and even flip her on her back for a minute or two… now, she always wants to be on me… you'll get it…. I have faith inYou! 😊😊😊 have a blessed day!!!!
🇦🇺You need a bee mentor or get someone to bring their hives onto your farm. You could have them on your farm for a few years to learn on the job. Having flowers, trees or any vegetation that supplies food for the bees.
You keep going on as much stuff your into , you will get overwhelmed.....
I watch every episode. You are the only homestead channel I watch. You and your wife are such wonderful people. I think you are doing a great job. It is a big undertaking and a big responsibility. Don't let what other people think determine what is right for your particular homestead. You are doing great. 🫶🫶🫶
Ha! Bee barn! Awesome, my neighbor has a bee barn, pretty close to that, good description. Lots of flora and fawna he grows for them, too. It’s a very elaborate set up he created for bees and honey, acres and acres.
Thank you Chad for another awesome video. I also get overwhelmed at times. Yes, day by day is a good thing to have in mind. We can't do everything in one day. Priorities first, last on the list is vision and dreams. Visions and dreams take time to come true.A day at the time.
Thank you for sharing. Love and Blessings to you all.
❤❤❤❤🙏🙏🙏🙏 Doris, Penrith 🇦🇺🦘
Those are love bites
I thoroughly enjoy watching your channel. Your high-quality of character shines. Keep striving to enjoy what you are doing while working towards your dream. Thank you for sharing your farm, animals, and journey.
Aww thanks, that means a lot 😊
I think of this topic a lot when I watch your videos. The huge amount of continuous work you do is admirable and I hope you realize you’re doing the best you can do!
The topic of this video was great! If you’re interested, I would love a more detailed video on your planning process/hopes/dreams!!!
we stand by you.... smile... greas from Swiss
I think you are awesome at what you do. I pray for you and your wife to find Gods plan in your life with this.
There’s always gonna be jobs and you’re right you gotta be patient. You seem to be a very patient person. Have a great day!
Thankyou , this is very honest by you ,
Ya they do glamorize it .and try to sell you on it and there way .
I really appreciate your content cause you just enjoy as you work most of the time , but you let us know the ups and downs . From animals to why you lined your duck pound , because of soil .
To well trouble shooting .
Thankyou for this video .
Take care .
Yes most videos make the lifestyle look easy and wonderful but it’s really not intentional by the creators the real reason is because we all need views and subs to grow our channels. You’ll also see homestead creators after so many years get new animals, new projects and new properties cause basically they’ve run out of content so as to continue keeping their audience interested. It’s just the way it is really.
I've grown up living this way, large gardens, orchards, livestock. I think i have less stress mostly because I can see things coming before they happen and I've seen the good the bad and the ugly watching things since I was a child. I didn't have any livestock when my kids were growing up, at the time I thought it was less stressful, but now I wish I did. They are so oblivious to the life. I still had a garden. I have a few animals now so the grand kids can learn about them, they love it, even the chicken butchering lol
Thanks fr your videos. Always overwhelmed myself just watching all the work that you do it's impressive. Keep telling it like it is.
Life can be overwhelming. When we add the things we like and forget the responsible that comes with taking care of them. Then that becomes work. Looks good.
So true 😉
Flurries! I know it's hard work, that's why I watch your videos instead of having acres myself
Haha YES!!! Right on 👍
Thanks for being real. You have the additional burden of keeping up the home you actually live in. I don't know how you do it. Like you said, when it becomes "work" it is no longer fun. I hope you continue to find that balance!
Yeah and most importantly I couldn’t run this channel if my Darlin didn’t hold down the fort at home. She basically does everything else in our lives so I can try to be successful with my channel.
@@HiddenSpringFarm She sounds like an awesome lady! I love the way you speak about her. You make a great team.
Thank you so much for the reality check. I appreciate, and I'm sure others do too. So thank you for that. ❤😊
💪
I wish I was there to help you all.
Me too 😂
My brother-n-law had a huge bee hive w lots of honey living between his inside & outside walls here in Texas . He called a bee guy & moved them to his colony . He harvest all that honey & honeycombs in mason jars . DELICIOUS 😋😋 . Of course they carefully tore down the siding of his home where the honey bees had made their home . So I think your idea of a bee barn will work if u build large sliding panels like the small hives have so u will be able to harvest the honey & combs . You have great ideas for housing your animals. Just a thought 🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️
A very good realistic video. I am one person living on a large lot. So can relate to feeling overwhelmed. I do what I can and try to keep the mindset that there is always tomorrow and don’t sweat the small stuff👍🇨🇦
Just a thought, put some rocks at aspot kinda like steps for geese and ducks to use to get out if they need. Love your channel and your life❤
Take your time, I love your videos whether you make big changes or small 👍
Hi Chad! Here in Russia we keep bees as well. And it isn't a big problem to save them in winter. I'm sure, you will find the solution. Good luck!
Agreed, once I’m ready it’s gonna bee a great experience either way.
We are at the overwhelming stage right now! We’re lucky to get a video out per week. Down here in Missouri I’ve cut grass four times already and that means yard and pens! I know you have a regular job plus the Farmstead Vacation Stay as well as taking care of animals and working on future project… then there’s filming and editing! You’re actually doing a great job Chad!
Yup there’s a lot of late nights 😉
Perhaps, seasonally, hire some teenage boys to help clean up the winter poop, as well as heavy projects.
There is a video at the bottom of the page of the link I just sent you below that may offer you some inspiration! :) They live inside - and get to go outside as they wish.
I love your videos❤ I'm a city girl and I'm overburdened as well lol. Working on getting back to a more balanced life.
For sure, infrastructure is so key and takes years! Then there’s the seasonal “deadlines” ( gotta paint the coop after the cold, but before the plants go in because once they grow tall I can’t paint behind them… such and such a plant has to go in by such and such a time… the coop and run needs mucked out before it gets muddy again… and so on). It’s a joy to have a farm but there is a real rhythm to the work that requires our daily time and presence. I believe this gets easier over time. But for the first several years & especially during seasons of infrastructure development it can be very overwhelming. I broke my foot this year, and it’s really taught me to slow down and go with the flow. We’re not machines. We need to recognize that even if we don’t get our goals all done in the time we hoped, we SHOWED UP Day in and day out and we are doing so much. Great topic. Great video. You are doing a great job. Above and beyond. This season will pass and next season you won’t have to worry about what you had to this season. ☀️☕️💚
enjoy your journey
😁
It all looks good on paper.
Exactly!
What a Game ....Bruins won game 3...Yes I'm a Boston fan.....Bruins , Red Sox. One day at a time on the Farm .....love your video's. 😊
If we could only have Marchand on our team, he’s such a pain. Pressures on for game 4 😉
Marchand is a big pain. 😅@@HiddenSpringFarm
I’m very impressed with your ability to build all those structures while saying you have no experience. That means you just dive in and figure it out. I love that. So often people don’t try because they “don’t know how.” And, it looks like you have don an awesome job. Very good video letting people know it takes a lot of effort but love what you do. ✨🕊✨
Thnx for the comment. I’m just at a point in my life that I don’t care if I screw it up, cause I’ll just fix it and get it right. 3 years ago I knew nothing of small farm life, hard to believe how far I’ve come 😉
@@HiddenSpringFarm Awesome job and like you said if you can enjoy what you do all the better. ✨🕊✨❤️
If anybody can be successful at building a bee barn. It will be U! I love watching your videos w my pups.
Please consider the Bee barn.
If you have a PO box I'd love to support you in any way.
I find it hard to maintain 6 raised beds with tomatoes and herbs. Okay, I have a full time job too, all the gardening is just a hobby..
loving your spirit and your content. thank you!
Another CZcamsr put out a video yesterday about some of the stress we do not see.( Southerwife, Everyday Life). We sometime just do not think of the behind the lens. I enjoy the content I watch and I Thank you.
Thanks
Aww thanks so much for this ❤️❤️
There’s a CZcamsr who lives in Alaska and in the winter the leaves the hives out but encase them in foam insulation. It’s called “Simple living Alaska” it’s on CZcams.
I’ll look for their bee videos and check it out thnx 😊
collecting rocks is a big part of my life too... :) I really enjoy your honesty - thanks for sharing your experience. (I dropped YT for a while because I just can't keep up - and am choosing other things instead)
Yeah sometimes it tough to keep it consistent, life just gets in the way occasionally.
You have and are doing a great job, just think of the alternative-9 to 5 !.
We have the same issue with being stressed on the homestead. Adding raised gardens to completing the garage to cottage conversion. The good is i am retired so that is a plus. I watch several video on your channel and see that you are moving forward.
Yes always moving forward is the key.
I agree, nix the pigs. Get something better for the farm visitors. Sheep, goats, or llamas are easier. Goat are good weed eaters. Llamas thrive in cold weather.
Bee barn might work if it had shutters that open and close them in the winter. Bees need wide open spaces to fly in and out of, but... I saw on HGTV Hawaii Renovation (?) episode where the house had bees build a hive in the walls of the back bedroom. Like 40 feet of beehive in the wall.
My favorite bee-keepers to watch on youtube are Jeff Horchoff Bees and 628 dirt rooster bees. Unfortunately they're located in Louisiana so not quite the same climate, but they do offer lots of great advice and put out lots of videos on bee-keeping. Might help you get a feel for all it entails and whether it's really something you want to do.
Nice, I’ll add it to my list of bee research 😀
😀😇
I've often how you work full-time and do this extra daily job of stay cation homestead with animal cares and cleaning, building things.... if you're taking on too much. Unless you have a half time helper on these homestead duties. It's not worth a heart attack or your good health.
Nice to see a fellow Ontarian on here :)
Right on! 🤙
I admire your passion and appreciate your honesty. So much work and there’s only so much time in a day (not sure if you have a full time job apart from CZcams). I wonder, does your wife or children get involved or help you out at all with the homesteading/farm?
Why don’t you name the space for the oinkers “The Pig Brig”?😁
Why listen to others if you want to make a bee barn then be the first to make one and make it work as I sure you can.and do it before someone steels your idea. Go for it x
I would think at the very least you could put bees under a 3 sided roofed shed. Thus offering them wind & precipitation protection. I would think this might also allow you to poison the ground around the hives to break the cycle of the insects that harm/kill the bees.
I can’t speak for everyone,
It would be nice if the people that came there to experience the farm. Life were too Pitchin and help during the days, if would give the full experience in farm style living, I know my family and I would want to help in daily .
I know people don’t pay to go on vacation, but it’s an experience gives us something to do a little bit while they’re there as well as the place that they’re visiting .
I don’t know if that’s something you could potentially add in to the rental agreement or be a part of it and some fashion?
I also wanna thank you for the wonderful content time in the effort that it takes for you to put this out for us !
You're doing a great job, Chad, I've always admired your ability to do all this by yourself and to build (!) all your projects on your own without a second person who might at least help holding or lifting stuff.. 😯💪💪 (Or did Chunk help you when you didn't film? 😂)
Aww thanks so much, always a great feeling to be admired.
I think you do a brilliant job. Maybe ask for help from someone? 😌
Ive done 2 ponds and yours looks fine. Most put too many rocks on the bottom no need.
Glad to know I’m on the right track 😉
I’m new to your channel but this reminds me of another channel I’ve been watching for years-Gold Shaw Farm. He’s similar in that he wasn’t raised around any of this stuff and is learning as he goes. I do see that he hires people to help with certain projects. I think if you could hire some help here and there for special projects, it would totally help you not to become too overwhelmed!!
Agreed, although I enjoy building things so I gotta make time for me to have fun doing it. All in good time though, Morgan has come a long way just as I have. If he was close I betcha we’d be good friends. Step by step, day by day I’ll get there.
...as a matter of fact, there's a beekeeper here in Manitoba (he's a commercial beekeeper with LOADS of hives) who has a winter house for his bees ...it's temperature (and I assume, humidity) controlled...he's the Canadian Beekeeper on CZcams..have you seen his stuff?
No I’ve not seen him at all, I’ll do a search & check it out thanks. Manitoba is colder than us so if he’s figured it out he’d be a good source.
I wonder if you could offer a program where people would pay to stay with you, and work at your farm to learn about homesteading…? Just a thought. 😁👍🏻
Well we run a farm stay here so it’s potentially just that. Reality is most guests just want to get away from the city, recharge and relax but I always offer them a more in depth experience. They usually just want to see the animals or collect eggs.
Someone in these comments stated that they would LOVE to work with you on the farm. I used to follow a blog that had people come and stay at their farm to learn the ropes and work. May be a marketing thing…👍🏻
Hi Chad, great video 🤗👍Time management is a daily struggle, can’t imagine how much you have to do on a farm each day😳🫤You do an awesome job at everything, your farm and babies all look beautiful ❤
