  • This video is a detailed look at the steps required to paint a true Tamiya Classic. I cover all aspects of what is required to paint up a polycarbonate body. This video is part 1 of 2 covering all aspects of the body build process. Starting with cutting out, masking up and the tools required. Next video to follow tomorrow evening 17/06/2019 when I lay down the paint for the silver bars (No silver roll bar stickers on this car) and then the classic black we all know and love.

    Amazing channel Gav! I had a Hornet at the age of 7 or 8, around 1984/1985. I just bought the rerelease this week (plus all the modern radio gear etc since things have changed a lot in 35yrs!) and will be closely following your Hornet videos for my build and paint. I still have my original car in the loft, but it looks a bit worse for wear now, and quite frankly is undriveable. Battle wounds from years of fun had with it. My rerelease purchase will be a bit more of a nostalgic one, but i'll still be having a bit of a blast with it when its done. Keep up the good work with the channel. After being out of the RC life for many many years, I suddenly find myself absorbed in watching your videos to the point of this weeks purchase! Gulp!

    I liked it with the additional detail. For me, 90% of the fun of an r/c is the build, so watching someone else I can live vicariously haha.
    Plus, even if I’ve been there done that I might still pick up something new.
    For instance, I actually never knew those decal cutting mats were a thing or why I’d use one, but now I do!

    I always needed a break before the final cut on the body, just to keep the stress levels down... keep up the good work.

    Love the Hornet, if u like Tamiya's I do a Tamiya build-off with fellow channels n do a video of all the builds at the end, I call it the Show'em off videos. A bunch of us do Tamiya Tuesday where we do our building videos n running videos of our Tamiyas. I see a couple guys in the rc family in ur comments. Friday night hangouts too

    Just building a Hornet after owning one in 87' aged 14. I remember using a brush to paint the shell in those days.

      Stephen McClune Yep back in the day it was all painting. You can get a much better result with pray these days but it’s a different skill. Enjoy your build.

    Great video on the steps involved. I've only done one body myself (DT-03 Racing Fighter) so I've got lots to learn. Thanks for keeping the video shorter too. I tend to bypass long ones! Great job!

      Sounds like someone needs to pull the trigger on a new NIB kit to me :) I want to keep the videos below 15mins as most people watch on phones and are just looking for a quick RC fix that's entertaining.

      @@RCKickschannel My first kit was the Blue metallic Neo Scorcher (body already done) and second was the Racing Fighter. Right now I am working on the Stadium Thunder. Love this hobby so much!

      Daryl RC I know the Blue Neo Scorcher as I have the same body. Yep it’s a fun hobby but it can get expensive when you start getting a taste for more rare old classics or start modifying cars.

      Outback RC Australia Yep it came out well in the end. I was really happy with the silver painted bars and the black went on without any issues. 👍🏻

      So true, definitely worth the effort to paint the silver bars and any other detail than to use stickers, great work

    Hi Gavin, i’m really liking the detailed format of the video. But it must take you a long time to produce and edit. I would have loved to have a tutorial when I built my first RC car back in the day.

    • @RCKickschannel
      @RCKickschannel  Před 5 lety +1

      Hi Lee, Happy you like it. It's a challenge in two ways really. Keeping videos below 15mins while keeping the detail up and like you say, the editing time goes up so much. I'm getting much quicker at editing but it just takes ages to cut everything together.

    Good job with the video and body. Didn’t it come with decals for the roll bars? Maybe I am thinking of another build.

    • @RCKickschannel
      @RCKickschannel  Před 5 lety

      Nordic RC Visions Yep it does but I’m not a fan so painted them instead. It’s possible to paint them from the inside but it just takes a bit of time.

    No washing of the body as in the manual?

    • @RCKickschannel
      @RCKickschannel  Před 5 lety +1

      Francis De Brabandere Depends on the body and the paint job. Most the time you can’t wash the body due to masking or you can wash the body but then put your fingers prints all over it putting the masking on. I’ve never had a paint reaction in 15-20 body’s but my first coats are so light, I can spot any issue areas. It’s not like I’m against washing the body, just not 100% of the time. Do what works for you.
