i LOVE the UNN ships, they're my favorite with their sixfold symmetry

Let’s be honest Chris. We want to see your take on Laconian Magnetar Destroyers

I'd rather see The Storm, as it was a hero ship substitute for a short period :)

Modelling one of the unused designs sounds cool and the protomolecule tech is a neat idea but an even cooler idea might be to model some of the Laconian Empire's ships, particularly the Magnetar-class battlecruiser since it's been described reasonably well in the books.

First I want to start with season 1-3 unused ship designs then we can go further from there. I'm not 100% sure on how I will do this, it could be a series of live streams or videos- still working on the idea.

Nah, that railgun is just a standard UNN design. The UN design committee couldn't stop fighting over which railgun contract to use on the ship, so they just strapped the two of them together!

My favourite ship in the fleet. I'm glad to see the concept sketches get a release here! I've wanted a high-res version of them to look at properly ever since I first saw them in the Art Book a few years ago. An interesting note in the ortho views is that from the top, you can see that the topmost module of the Truman-class is actually the same construction as the MCRN's Scirocco cruisers - I've speculated before that the two ships share a design lineage in some form or another.

I quite like sketch A as well, but that seems like it would fit in better with the MCRN fleet.

What would be really cool is seeing your ideas or mockups of ships that were mentioned in the books that didn't make it to the show like the UNN Xerxes-class battleship or MCRN Raptor-class cruiser.

Chris you should get all the models ready for homeworld 3 so people can mods it in the Expanse

Thanks for doing these. I'd definitly like to see some of the Martian (Free Navy) ships in season 5. There was a new heavy destroyer and Marco's ship.
This stuff needs to go in a new coffee table book. The Expanse: Ship Porn

I wish there were some kinda library if these images so I can actually like, soak it all in. I watch your stuff and pause so often, sometimes even take pics on my phone so I can look at them longer, later.
Again, I like drawing ships, and this stuff is a ton of influence. I am especially interested in the almost-buglike concept sketch you posted. It has such a unique silhouette, and you're right when you say it doesn't fit well in the expanse, especially as a UNN ship--it has its own kind of vibe, sorta.
Anyway, I know there are probably copyright laws or something of the sort prevent you from being able to upload the pics, (unless you already do and I haven't found em lol), but it would be cool to have it here ways of like, "studying" the ship's build without having to like, pause and stare at my TV... I guess I could use a computer and take screenshots, lol. Rambling now, I'm sorry
    Keep up the awesome videos

Did North Front come up with any other designs for UNN or MCRN ship, that were not used in the show?

Are there any plans to do a feature on the UNN fleet's ships with unknown details?
(The ships that are presumed to be frigates/destroyers/cruisers seen in the distance).
I can't find any details, so it would be great if you could feature them.

The production didn't give details on these ships, at least from what I've seen. So I would have to make them up which I don't want to do. If I somehow find official details sure I can make a video on it.

What are the two large curving pods on either side of the nose supposed to be for?

  • @scottwatrous

i've ben trying to think of an Expanse ship to model up internally in Halo Infinite's Forge mode. And was just thinking that maybe the Truman Class would be a good option with its relatively open interiors and there's a good amount of on-screen compartments and cooridors shown (looking at you Donnie)
Also interesting to me is what the big 'hammer head' sections are for, are they some kind of ship's arrays? Or related to the missile tubes? Or are they larger areas for crew and the like to get some floor space? Were they intended to rotate for gravity while not under burn as shown on the Edward Israel? It would be an interesting design motif if most Earth-based deep-space vessels had some kind of non-thrust based artificial gravity as the Earthers would be most reliant on it, while Martians and Belters could more easily adapt to prolonged periods on the float.
And then overall of course one gets curious about the interior layouts and areas of this ship. I assume no real concept work was spent on laying out these ship systems or interiors beyond what was in this video. But I am curious like, where might the bridge go if not at the top hammerhead section? Was there any internal docking bays like on the Donnager, or only external docks? It doesn't seem that they were as concerned with carrying prisoners as the Martians, as Cotyar ends up chained to, well, a cot; and on the Donnie there was a whole detention block.
