1:25 that unintentional slacking of the face in Nolan speaks so much about their relationship. He's legitimately shocked that Cecil considered him a proper friend and that his betrayal hurt. They weren't just coworkers. Cecil did consider him someone to rely on. And that furrowing of the brows and looking away at 1:00 shows Nolan's inner conflict. Cecil is reading him very well - Nolan didn't WANT to kill them. But if he didn't, then they'd get ripped apart by the Viltrumite backup. And many more people would die in the resistance.

The little nuances in Nolan's face when Cecil brings up Debby being hurt and the reason for killing the guardian's is kind of heart breaking after knowing he genuinely grew feelings for his family and friends.
Honestly, the fact Nolan tells Cecile to never use Debbie's name is very telling. Both that he loves her, but also that he considers that love to be a weakness and doesn't want to let Cecil exploit it.
@@JK-zo8qf yes I've read the invincible comics too. Gotta say though, the show does switch some things around and I think for a show with alot of action these changes would make sense
There's quite a number of changes from the comics. For one, Mark only meets Cecil after Omni-Man leaves Earth. Neither did Cecil or any of the GDA confront Omni-Man prior to his fight with the Immortal and Mark. Darkblood wasn't sent back to hell by Cecil; he submitted his investigarion to the GDA, only to be laughed at since by that time the whole world had already known that Omni-Man killed the Guardians. And Donald was a cyborg from the very start. So who knows how exactly Cecil will die in the series?
Not Batman, Cecil is a good version of Lex Luthor (both are bald and extremely rich and geniuses) while Omni-man is an evil version of Superman (I know later Omni-man change to be good or somewhat antihero because the love for his earthling family)

Love how Cecil admitted he couldn't stop him, he was there just to buy time. But he was also there to do soemthing else; turn those screws of guilt into Omniman...and it worked.
I love the facial expressions of Omni man. You can tell that the entire time Cecil is talking to him that Nolan is trying incredibly hard not to care or stick to his “means to an end” mentality but deep down he truly does feel bad for what he’s done even if ever so slightly 10/10 writing and acting
This scene made Cecil one of my favorite characters in the series. At the beginning he seemed just like a typical G-man dude who was all about results and didn't care about people. But as time passes you realize that he's actually incredibly complex, and hates himself for so many of the things he does, even if they're for the greater good. You can feel his pain when he says they were friends. He's angry, betrayed, he's lost someone who he truly cares about. Not only that, but he's willing to stand Nolan down himself, alone. He's got the teleporter, but he has to trust the operator to save him. This moment is more badass than anything Omni-Man did all season. Omni-Man's basically invulnerable, he's never scared of losing. Cecil is just a man, but he only puts himself in danger in this scene, no backup, and just to slow Omni-Man down.
"I've faced death more times than I can count, but I'll be damned if that didn't put my balls in my throat" is a line that goes hard as fuck Both the "I've faced death a lot" part and the "that actually got me shaken there" is just such a raw admission of respect

"Don't say her name!" What Cecil said about Debbie being hurt about his heel turn cut him deep. You could tell that pet comment he had about her later was a self-coping lie.
I love when Omniman goes "Don't say her name..." when Cecil mentions Debbie. Despite his posturing, it was pretty clear that Omniman was very defensive towards his wife and had clear strong feelings of love towards her
If it were any other viltrimite, they would’ve wasted no time trying to kill Cecil but even when Nolan attacked he still paused to hear Cecil out. Cecil mentioning the guardians, Debbie and Mark made Nolan pause and show emotion about all of them.
The dialogue in this scene is top notch. It's really hard to do superhero type shows of any kind and still make them "real". Nolan wasn't cartoonishly blood thirsty, but he has a mission and wants to complete it. But Cecil was able to get past his tough exterior with probing questions. Just well done. Better dialogue than anything, for example, done in the DC universe, other than the Heath Ledger and Tom Hardy Batman movies.
1:01: I love that small look of regret on Nolan’s face when Cecil tells him he knows there was a good reason to why Omni-Man killed the Guardians. You can kinda tell that Nolan didn’t really want to kill them, but because of his loyalty to Viltrum, he probably felt obligated to eliminate them as part of his mission. It’s heartbreaking to see that Nolan somewhat regrets what he’s done, but he probably knows he must complete his mission for Viltrum and that it’s too late to turn back now.

Omni man seems like a good and bad guy. Good character development and acting. Looking forward to knowing why he killed them. Please no one spoil it for us, comic readers. will just wait and see. Cecil is awesome btw
Non-comic reader here. I think his reasons are pretty clear. "Earth isn't yours to rule" "We have a responsibility, as Viltrumites." "Mark don't waste your time on the low human issues" I feel like it's pretty obvious why Omni does the things he does. I may be wrong, but I don't see how.
Unlike the comic the show has given a few obvious hints for you to figure out his reason. He'll explain the more obvious one in the next episode, but there's an even more secret reason behind what he's doing that wouldn't be said until season 2 (or season 3, depends on how they do it). What's cool about it is that they even hinted some of that with his dialogues and reactions. Just ask yourself, why didn't he kill the Guardians until now if he's been on Earth for 20 years?
@Master Derin I assume, given that he seemed to have positive interactions with them and his conversation with Cecil, that he liked them. They were his friends for years. It's just that his mission came first, and when he couldn't put it off anymore he had to do it.
@Master Derin I don't, really. He came to care for them and his family. Maybe so much so that he put thoughts of domination out of his mind. But when he couldn't post-pone it any longer, when the Viltrumites were on their way, he had to make sure they were out of the picture. That's all I think it is
Love it when cecil brings up the reason why he did it. Only to have omni man look away almost in regret. like he knew what he did wrong. But just couldn't admit it due to his loyalty.
Something about those little moments of Cecil catching his breath after evading Nolan's attacks as well as how self-aware he is of his own actions makes him one of the best characters in the show version of the story
With the announcement of Season 2, this scene popped back up in my recommended section and I gotta say this: I don't think Cecil's actor, Walton Goggins, gets enough credit for how convincing his acting was for Cecil. Checking BehindtheVoiceActors, he's had maybe three roles including Cecil, but he fucking nails the tone. He's absolutely no nonsense, no bullshit, but at the same time there's moments where Cecil lets his emotional guard down and you can hear it in his voice. The way he retorts "They were your friends! And so was I!", that's not JUST him stalling Nolan, there's genuine anger and hurt in his voice. Cecil was so perfectly cast and it's an incredible shame that Goggins hasn't had many more VA roles. And I can't wait to hear more of him in Season 2 (Apparently along with Josh Keaton, which is fucking rad, he played Hal Jordan in Green Lantern: The Animated Series and I desperately hope he gets to play someone that sounds similar to Hal as well).
I like to think everything goes black when he teleports. So in that microsecond in the darkness, Cecil's mind wonders if the lights are coming back on becuz he teleported, or its staying off becuz he's dead.
A reminder that there’s a third guy that manually operates the GDA teleporter. Cecil is a good enough leader that he can easily put his life in the hands of his own men.
I love Cecil, he's basically what would happen if Amanda Waller was 100% right about the Justice League. (The JL cartoon version). Imagine if those two teamed up?
1 to get there. Another to dodge throat grab. A third to avoid getting tackled. A fourth to play dodge ball. A fifth just for fun I suppose? A sixth to avoid a small hurricane with a chance for earthquake. And a last one to tap out. So Cecil teleported 7 times, costing tax payers $35 million.
This is what we need more in not just comics but anime too. Side characters or not as powerful characters not being afraid to call out bs on more powerful characters, stepping in to help regardless of any disadvantages, and not just dickriding the main character to a painful extent.
I respect Cecil a lot because what he does he does for the actual goodness and safety of the world, he may work with villains and do sorta immoral things but it’s ultimately for a better world, nick fury is if you put a Cecil in an ideal world where the heroes are really heroes and where the villains are just villains, and Amanda Waller really is if you take a Cecil and corrupt him entirely and take away his care for the safety of others, Cecil looked into the abyss and came out a stronger man for it
im so glad i started reading the comics, i understand so much more between Nolan and Cecil, wow this showed changed a lot, it tells the story in a much better imo but it helps to have context on both their backstories
Bruh that last teleport, Cecil already teleported before Nolan even started moving and yet was still able to, at the very least, make contact with his clothes and even grab his tie.
Cecil likely foreshadowed his death in this episode, though we don't know when that scene happens, unless if the writers decide to not kill him off at all when the series ends
That’s the thing about lying; it’s like crime. It doesn’t matter what you did, how long you got away with it, or even when you die with no one knowing. The truth always will come out.
Cecil casually hemorrhaging our economy with each teleport. Willing to bet he would gladly waste tens of millions just to teleport straight to Starbucks, just for his morning cup of java 😂

Such amazing dialogue, a character who doesn’t fight at all but is just shown risking it all for a monologue and a shot at the antagonist’s conscience. The delivery is perfect
all to give the world some time
I got the impression Cecil didn't really believe they could stop Omni-Man. He just refused to give up without trying. He threw everything they had at Nolan, hoping something would stick. The juiced-up Hail Mary actually came close, though. If Mark hadn't interfered she might have killed Nolan.
@@danieldickson8591 Hail Mary (if she couldn;t completely kill him) would have at least, totally knocked him out/incapacitated him long enough for Cecil to come up with a more permanent solution.
Heck she was handling both Omni-Man and Invincible at the same time, for a good bit. Until they managed to knock her out. She's still alive, and i'm sure she will return.

nah, the person who teleported him was the real MVP
f that, the real MVP was the guy in charge of which drugs to give Hail Mary
Cecil is the MVP at what? Getting his own men killed for no reason? Wasting taxpayer money? Getting civilians killed? His whole plan to delay Omniman FAILED. And it was nonsense from the beginning since Omniman could have spoken with Mark at any point in time. Even the Hail Mary was a pointless plan since Omniman could have just stayed out of its range if it weren't for plot-induced stupidity. I swear, Cecil fans are as mentally stunted as he is.

@@puppergump4117 Who says they lived?
The little nuances in Nolan's face when Cecil brings up Debby being hurt and the reason for killing the guardian's is kind of heart breaking after knowing he genuinely grew feelings for his family and friends.
Honestly, the fact Nolan tells Cecile to never use Debbie's name is very telling. Both that he loves her, but also that he considers that love to be a weakness and doesn't want to let Cecil exploit it.
Cecil is a pretty cool character, hopefully he doesn't get killed off anytime soon
😗Yeaaaa.....
@@JK-zo8qf yes I've read the invincible comics too. Gotta say though, the show does switch some things around and I think for a show with alot of action these changes would make sense
Soon? Nah. Way later? Lol

I love the facial expressions of Omni man. You can tell that the entire time Cecil is talking to him that Nolan is trying incredibly hard not to care or stick to his “means to an end” mentality but deep down he truly does feel bad for what he’s done even if ever so slightly
10/10 writing and acting
"I've faced death more times than I can count, but I'll be damned if that didn't put my balls in my throat" is a line that goes hard as fuck
Both the "I've faced death a lot" part and the "that actually got me shaken there" is just such a raw admission of respect
The fact that his natural accent comes through a little in those lines is brilliant, shows how shaken up he is as opposed to his normal demeanour
The voice acting in this show is so freaking amazing! I expected nothing less from J.K. but it's not just him. The whole cast is great.
I love that you can already see the gears of empathy starting to turn.
Nolan is already doubting himself even if he doesnt recognize it as such.
Its funny how cecils gun is shaped into the very question he wanted to ask Nolan

I still love how it’s implied through Nolan’s expressions that he feels remorse for killing the other heroes.
Cecil is underrated AF
Even of this was a mind game to gain time, you really do get the feeling that Cecil cared about Omni Man
My favorite part of this exchange is Cecil's revolted expression when Omni-Man calls the Guardians "weak".
Everything about Omni-Man is revolting. They're never gonna be okay or forgive what he did and planned to do to them.
Cecil is just awesome. What a baller move right here. Kudos to the writers and animators as well. Can we please get everything this mythology has to offer? When Cecil reappears in safety all of the characters looks surprised for his well being for a fraction of a second :wow:. This is fantastic, thank you for your efforts.
Edit: Also, the ambiguous nature of Omni Man only severing the tie when it *could* have been within his reach to just murder Cecil (he doesn't seem surprised he is clutching only tie) is a fantastic touch. This is good stuff. Inverse Superman is a great concept to explore.
I like how when Cecil says "Im a VERY good liar" he doesnt sound or look happy or proud of it. He's not bragging.

What Cecil said about Debbie being hurt about his heel turn cut him deep.

Conquest in particular would have been RUTHLESS. Cecil would be dead ☠️
@@brunowillich1837 my point is exactly, Nolan wasn’t coming at Cecil the way any other viltrimite would’ve handled him.
once in a lifetime interaction that saved the world
The dialogue in this scene is top notch.
I like how the evil looking guys are actually the good guys in this series, like Cecil and Allen. And Nolan who is basically superman is the bad guy

Non-comic reader here. I think his reasons are pretty clear.
"Earth isn't yours to rule"
"We have a responsibility, as Viltrumites."
"Mark don't waste your time on the low human issues"
I feel like it's pretty obvious why Omni does the things he does.
That's all I think it is
@Ronit Banerjea wait then why the fuck would you spoil it, we were just discussing it.

When is season 2 coming
