- My first blind playthrough of Star Trek Resurgence
Slightly edited for length but a live let's play stepping into the shoes of Commander Jara Rydek and Crewman Carter Diaz on the USS Resolute, a Centaur Refit Class science vessel that has fallen on hard times.
Star Trek Resurgence developed by Dramatic Labs and Epic Games, published by Epic Games and Bruner House.
Star Trek Picard/Strange New Worlds/Enterprise/Voyager/Deep Space Nine/Discovery and The Next Generation are all owned by Paramount Pictures/CBS and distributed by CBS.
This Video is for critical purposes with commentary. - Hry
You know what the signs of a good CZcams video and a good story are When an hour has passed and you didn't even realize it
I was wondering what happened to my battery 😮..
I think it's good that the warp experiment didn't go well. As we all know, if you travel too fast you turn into a giant newt and then have newt babies that just get left behind on a random planet while the rest of the crew turns you back into a human.
Not going to lie, after the Captain admitted that the Wrap Core accident six months ago was caused by a combination of his ambition and his friction with his senior officers; my reaction was that he was lucky to still have a career. *I* thought he deserved to be cashiered.
I love the musical score's homage to James Horner and Micheal Giacchino during Resolute 's departure scene.
Ok this game is kinda amazing! The glee in his voice when swapping over Isoliner chips! GIMME!
Can't wait for more!
My all-time favorite Star Trek trope. Sen-SORES. I really hope they bring the Resolute into STO as an alternate skin for the Centaur class.
This ship is already in the game.
All you have to do is when you're first starting out you can customize your ship by going to the ship tailor.
Or you could buy the legendary Miranda from the Z store.
@@PhillipLemmon Kevin means with the added deflector dish.
I appreciate we're back to these uniforms for a game, my second fave behind the Wrath of Khan uniforms. Also when coming into the station I was half expecting Resolute to be that Miranda class XD
that guy getting transported off cracked me up
Wow, that captain is sending up all kinds of red flags.
Yeah, he’s giving off big Larval Evil Admiral energy.
Reminds me of the captain of the Pegasus.
Amongus.
When he totally forgot he had met Riker once more than two decades ago, I immediately thought, "I knew it! He might exist in the Captain's body but that's NOT really him!!" (just like Tuvok in "Picard") .
I don't like him either. Too soon to judge, perhaps, but it feels like he is hiding things, and holds his pride close, masking it with duty..., for now.
On one side, he has just suffered a loss of crew and a friend, his former XO. But at the same time, he seems to disregard the warp core failure as purely his failure, citing that his crew stood against his orders. (Edit: Which seemed to be the reason for the failure. End Edit)
(Which is often why they are there. To question and, at long extent, criticize decisions, make everyone better. Lt. Cmdr. Data got that down when he vented atmosphere from a shuttle bay, rather than use a tractor beam. Granted he has the foresight of a temporal anomaly)
I sense in the captain a great ambition. He wants greatness..., his greatness. I'm not so sure he would extend that so willingly to the crew.
HEY I just wanna say one thing ... I still keep going back to the EP 88 of your STO palytrough for that Invictus recital
and You inspired me to basically become a rolepalying channel myself!
good luck on that I'll give you a sub.
@@ksiaa814 ooh thanks! Hope you enjoy my stuff XD
Finished my playthrough yesterday and I just love the writing of this. Really feels like an hours long Star Trek movie!
32 mins in and i am so hooked . please please continue this
Agreed, as a series 'Resurgence' is way better than much of the 'Trek' series produced by Paramount nowadays (w/exception of SNW and Lower Decks).
Despite the glitches this was a great story game. I just would have prefered there was no glitches. I really loved the crew of the resolute in the end. Especially Nilli and Diaz.
This is post Dominion War so I figure they had quite a few ships like Centaur and the Steamrunner we saw around the station that are not needed on a direct combat standing anymore and we know they like to repurpose hulls where possible. Like the SCE novels set aboard a Sabre which doesn't feel like an engineering support class usually.
The writing for this game was really good. I liked the line Urmott says at 9:50 . It elevates the Resolute from merely a ship to a character, as all good hero ships should be. Also, if you play through again, when you first meet the Vulcan Chief Engineer, pick "So we're irreplaceable?" He gives you Vulcan sass.
Doc mcoy said in tng:relics. The ship has the right name and if you treat her like a lady. She will always get you home.
@@morrowoblivion13 McCoy says that on screen in the Pilot episode, encounter at far point, when walking the corridors with Data
@@Madmartigan17 oh yeah. Thank you for reminding me. live long and prosper 🖖 and peace and long life.
@@morrowoblivion13 Relics was the Scotty episode, IIRC.
@@VulpisFoxfire thank you for reminding me of that episode. It's been a long time since I've seen that one. Live long and prosper 🖖
This was loads of fun! Looking forward to the rest.
This was terrific -- going to be quite a while before I get to play this, if ever, so I'm glad to got a chance to toss it on in the background. REALLY well done so far. Characters are interesting, has enough intrigue to make me want to stick around. Nice.
They actually have enlisted titles? This is highly unusual and I love it
Kudos for the game designers and writers for fully recognizing the role of the enlisted crew in this game and gave us two enlisted crew among the main characters of the game. The main Trek-verse only features Chief O'Brien as an enlistee main character, while as you could see on the game it is the enlisted crew who did much of the grunt work running a Starfleet vessel, not to mention the fighting and dying.
I love it, too. I liked hearing their perspective.
@@LGranthamsHeir TOS did have a few recurring Yeomen and Voyager's Lower Decks episode did feature some of Voyager's enlisted crew but yeah in general they're forgotten
Loving this so far, please do more x
That entire first section felt like a love letter to lower decks 😆
That my domain line felt like a reference to the episode where Rutherford transferred to different departments.
This is awesome, I didn't know this even existed, and I'm now excited for further episodes of your playthrough!
Honestly the vibe of the resolute is very TNG, carpeted flooring is such a small thing that makes a s hip feel less like a combat vessel and more like an explorer imo.
Also if i remember right this would be post dominion war, i am not surprised they refitted it into a science class, they're still Rebuilding their fleet, right now any ship they can retool to science is one more step towards feeling like they are reclaiming their identity
The vibe is TNG Indeed. Jara's worldview reflects that of a TNG-era officer who values peaceful exploration over conflicts and the preservation of all lifeforms as long as they don't openly try to kill you - despite the fact she is a fully decorated Dominion War vet. As you could see in her interactions with some of the younger officers (Bedrossian for instance), they tend to be more battle hardened and don't mind massacring likely hostile aliens if it means their own lives are saved.
Sadly by the time "Picard" begins (late 2390s) Starfleet seems to be staffed by more of the latter type officers than the former (look at all the genocide promoting weapons and techs produced by Section 31 at Daystorm Institute).
@@LGranthamsHeir Don't allow the minority to overblow it's status, section 31 has always been a minor faction in Starfleet even if it looks big cause they make for good stories, it'd be like a spy thriller set in the USA that uses teh CIA who seems to be everywhere. They aren't but a good story needs conflict of some kind.
@@LGranthamsHeir "look at all the genocide promoting weapons and techs produced by Section 31 at Daystorm Institute"
That felt more like the Starfleet science division has too much time on its hands.
@@Hartzilla2007 Or being infiltrated/controlled by Section 31. Still, the "Starfleet is being threatened by multiple hostile aliens, hence we have to produce more ships and weapon techs to kill them before they kill us" mindset seems to permeate in late 23rd century mindset.
Hence explains Starfleet's refusal to help the Romulans when their system went nova after the Mars shipyard attack ("Picard" S1) and the all-integrated ship defense system developed by Admiral Shelby - though it backfired on her and Starfleet ("Picard" S3).
You know not something I expected but nonetheless this is amazing!!!!
Nili Edsilar, Space E4 Mafia is my new favorite Star Trek character
Happy to see you doing a play through of this game, and looking forward to more of this series!
Now that I’ve finished the game I can watch you play it! Im excited to see how my choices compare to yours. Was a fun game, and I was super satisfied with my ending, yet I noticed when looking online alot of my choices were like 10-14% of the player base.
31:25 And the bridge has carpet! Definitely like the Galaxy Class. 🙂
More narration, comments, and jokes. More videos! I demand more! Have a nice day.
I still have to finish the game but I've enjoyed it so far. A story that actually feels like traditional Star Trek, mixed with RPG decision based gameplay reminiscent of "Life is Strange", or any game developed by Telltale. That's a combination I didn't know I wanted until I had it.
14:17 Who among us can truly claim we've never dropped a 10mm socket behind a dashboard...
So glad you're doing this playthrough!!!
I'm hooked
-
please continue
It's possible they moved the ship over to a different dock to finish & give repair crews access to the broken clamps.
Had to pause it & come back, but completely engrossed for entire video. Didn't realize it was an hour long haha.
Thanks, as always, Rick ❣️
I played a bit more rogue, I think. Solano didn't impress me. He was competent enough, but seemed to be more concerned with his own reputation than the welfare of his ship. I chose to polarize the hull instead of blowing the bolts, and got chewed out for disobeying. Because by disobeying, I made him look bad. Which only reinforced my reasoning.
Same, he's unfit for duty
@@123ricardo210 What's funny is he knows it. He says as much in this clip! The line "this was a leadership failure" is extremely telling.
His desire for a promotion to admiral has *seriously* degraded his ability to function as captain, and it's set up a really toxic environment with his senior staff. He doesn't trust them, they don't trust him, they barely trust each other, and some of them just suck (looking at you, Westbrook and Bedrosian)
@@pjlusk7774 now you've said it... I hadn't even noticed that (at least not explicitly). That's even worse than I thought
@@123ricardo210 Having completed the game, it's going to get much, much worse.
@@pjlusk7774 oh, I know. It's just the idea that there's even more that I missed even though I went looking for it
35:00
I think it's been refit into a science-class for two reasons.
1) the Dominion war is over, so escort and patrol is not that necessary.
2) It has been going over a lot of warp experimentations, which failed, granted... But it has been refit for a job, which seem to fit the Captain more. So I could speculate that it's a test-bed for a new generation of Excelsior based/Centaur based refits.
3) It's former role as a light cruiser/escort during the war, has seen it's maneuverability being praised along it's defensive loadout. Could be fit for hazardous scientific tasks, after minor (or in this case, major) adjustments.
An hour and left wanting more. Great vid 😄
YES YES YES! I was waiting you would try this game! so excited!! let's have fun!
There is a 5 part prequel comic which tells the events of six months prior to the game and what led to the event causing the XO's sacrifice.
Hi Cert, checking this style out for the 1st time. Not to shabby, lol good job
You'd think that the XO would carry an emergency hypospray to top herself up with. Unless the infusion requires specialist sickbay equipment.
Thanks for giving my Tuesdays purpose again!!!!!
When watched as a series mode, 'Resurgence' is way better than 'Trek' series produced by Paramount nowadays (w/exception of SNW and Terry Matalas-produced "Picard" Season 3).
this is very intriguing and fascinating greats tory game too much appreciated to see this i can't wait to see so much more and what tehs torm is all about as well.
I love this game .hopefully, new updates, borg and everything in Star Trek. The world is open to anything.
This was fantastic
Thank you!
Interesting story so far. For someone of his age, I do wonder if Solano should be in command of a ship or manning a desk till retirement kicks in.
This comes up in at least some of the dialogue paths. Solano is a huge careerist, and rightly or wrongly, convinced that the failed warp test is keeping him from getting his admiral’s pips. This is why he’s so dead set on *this* mission being a success, hell or high water.
He wants that promotion so bad it’s hurting his ability to function as a captain. On the other hand, he’s setting himself up nicely for Future Evil Admiral.
@@pjlusk7774(SPOILER ALERT) "Evil' seems to be the best way to describe him 😉
@@LGranthamsHeir even before all of…that, he was clearly starting to crack
@@pjlusk7774 His career clock is ticking.
Now that I played the game, I can watch your playthrough. And you made me laugh within 2 min, looking forward to the Rest
Wow! This is just what I needed to get back into Star Trek again.
Great game and great work again
Can't believe how quick that hour went by
In terms of structure, this reminds me a bit of the old FMV Star Trek games from the '90s, Borg and Klingon.
You are very good at this, I like the way you do things.
I want that Nova class scout. I'd do things to it that'd make the Starfleet Corps of Engineers wet their tricorders with glee.
The science guy has mastered the raised eyebrow. I bet he served on a Vulcan ship. :P
You dont have anything to hold onto in youe chair one torpedo blast and your flying :D
Their writing made turning a wrench high drama. Im excited to see what else this game has to offer. I feel like they get Star Trek.
I want to watch you play but I can't do spoilers cause I'm so excited! When this comes to steam next year I'll be back to watch you play.
On the subject of an XO's role, TNG had an episode all about this where Data took command and Worf was his XO. You're correct in that the XO's job is to offer the Captain alternatives and to question orders, (not in front of the crew as you said), but once the Captain makes their decision it is also the XO's job to make sure it gets done. So.... in a way both you and this Captain are right... in that the XO should question the Captain vigorously, but once the Captain has made the final decision the XO's job is to follow through.
The Captain didn't have all the facts though and he should have kept that in mind instead of being all "They're all against me!"... but then again we don't know his experience.
Anyway, great first episode of this. Can't wait to see more!
Looks like a great game!
Wow, that hour flew by. I really like this game. A bit glitchy but some god Star Trek fun.
Keep going big fan can't for the next one
You have convinced me to buy this game. With its low price and me still having a 25% off coupon for Epic Games Store it came at a very low price for a new game. Thanks for that and the entertaining video.
Oh god, the captain is even worse when you *do* follow his order. Happy I chose to polarize the hull, lmao
Now that's a Star Trek
Damnit the Captain is unsure of himself (not a good look for a captain) and the XO is heading to sickbay, boy oh boy confidence levels are dropping faster than a meteor shower.
I hope the Resolute's hull options ready for a free update in STO.
Love to see PTO Carlos Diaz and Nelly Edsillar as main characters POV in "Resurgence." Plus they have a whole host of other NPC enlistees (including PTO Maris) featured on the game. Finally the writers recognizes that it is the enlisted crew who do much of the grunt work running a Starfleet vessel and fixing it when something goes wrong, not to mention they're the ones fighting and dying to defend the ship whenever it is being invaded by an alien baddie.
I'm looking forwards to hearing more
Dang... this was really good.
Hey, if it’s not too much, could you please consider turning on the subtitles? It’s kinda hard to hear/focus on what the characters are saying when the music and your commentary are both interrupting.
That's what the YT subtitles are for, it gets the job done. I can understand turning on the in-game subs, though.
i need more of this
i want more of this
this is out! hell yeah
This makes me want a mass effect style star trek game so bad
I really enjoyed this game.
Apart from there seems to be an inordinate amount of full Commanders on this ship. When you consider that the Enterprise-D had Crusher and Riker as the only full Commander's. The story is decent. two thumbs up for showing ratings for a change.
Not true Troi became a full commander as well
@@lightsidewarrior504 I did forget about her. It was very late when she did become a full commander though. So three Cmdr,s for the largest ship and flagship in Star fleet. Yet this little ship has three and a full Captain. Mind you, the amount of ST ships with Captains ranks is nuts. Poor little Grissom or the tiny Nova in Voyager. Lt Cmdr billets at best.
@@Yandarval The loss of so many ships in the dominion wars and the glut of war related promotions has resulted in a large number of officers filling positions they are over-ranked for.,,,
Captains log... 15 inches.
Then it broke....
This is the top comment? I'm not even mad lol 😂😂😂
@@Sh_rib Sir is a connoisseur
"OH my..."
That's all?! It wouldn't even go past the toilet seat!😂
31:40 - the captain asking for attention when coming onto his bridge? That's usually a given...
Over so soon? Aww. I look forward to the next part. Epic don't offer the game on my preferred platform so I won't be playing it myself.
I can see why the crew questions the captain, he was ready to sacrifice two of his own at the drop of time..
Is it me or could much of that difficulty been averted with just a little urgency, by everyone…
If Hale ever played a Starfleet sim...
This game was nothing ground-breaking but as a Star Trek fan, I really enjoyed it. Just imagine if someone made a fully fledged Mass Effect style game set in the Star Trek Universe.
I say this as a huge Mass Effect fan (like, was a ME Wiki contributor) and a Star Trek fan, I think that might not be a great idea? As much as ME is an RPG, it's also at its core a shooter. That makes for fun gameplay, but it's not very Trek. You don't solve all your problems with guns in Trek.
Something like this (or a dialogue heavy, more or less combat free RPG like Disco Elysium or Planescape Torment) makes a lot more sense.
@@pjlusk7774 Yeah you are right. I just found this game to be too short, that's all. I personally would not mind a Single-Player RPG like Star Trek Online but with better graphics, a third/first person perspective and better game mechanics, and maybe some romance options for those who want it. Personally I like Star Trek Online but the game mechanics feel too out of date so I would love a Single-Player story-driven game very similar to Star Trek Online but with some aspects from the ME series like an honor system and having romance options.
I waited to watch this series till i made my own first playthrough. I disobeyed at that moment and it's interesting how it changes. Curious if i can fit a second playthrough in before the second episode hits so i don't spoil miself to much
Just keep a spare ring on you!
I am actively not watching the video because I don't want spoilers. However, I did want to ask, and see in reply comments, the general feel the Star Trek fandom is giving about the game. Trying to decide if I'm gonna pick it up.
Great game.
The " lower decks" nice
35:51 That's what you got PADDs for.
Please keep doing these! I'm very interested in the plot and all of the extra quips you add, but I'm not going to be getting the game myself because I don't have a console and the PC version is locked to 1080p 30 fps and is on Epic, not Steam
25:48 - oh god he's gonna go admiral beunamigo on this isn't he...
1 you have my subscription 😂 and 2 is this on console sto is good but I need this game lol
3:28 Did they use STO assets for this? I'd recognize that STO Nova-class anywhere ☺
Love the look of the game, this is classic star trek! Did any one think it odd they kept shorting structural integrity field? I've never heard it said like that I don't think?
21:34 nobody gonna mention the crashed mirandas? edit 57:53 too
I've been waiting on a good non mmo star trek game for a long time! I can say I'm a little disappointed I don't get to create my own officer.
The captain looks a bit like the engineer in Chernobyl. :-) He also went a bit too far... just he did not get another power plant to work in....
turn on subtitles in game
Talking about the window on the bridge, I don't like that idea. I know it's part of the new trek aesthetic, and it looks good in terms of visuals for a TV show, especially when going through a nebula, but that's all I see it useful for, the visual wow factor, not in a practical sense. .... At the end now, interesting story/episode. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Glad no one died. Was expecting one of the two outside would.
I ❤ Ric 🖖🏻
How do it feel to play a different Star Trek game form STO
This reminds me of the old bridge commander games, i wonder if combat is similar
Nope, no ship combat to speak of. None that don’t take place in the dialogue system anyway.
There are a couple of phaser shootouts, though.
All the evil admirals were evil captains at some point.
49:08 I personally Reverse polarity which sees Edsillar and Diaz tether themselves to the ship...overall outcome is still the same, but feels to be the safer option (with the obvious exception you get on the captain's bad side)
