After rebuilding my Conquer 4000 a few times and purchasing a Torque 5 bailess im hooked on gear materials now and just purchased a Slammer3 3500 as my new flounder reel keep up the good work Penn.
Really like both the rod and the reel ur2.pl/2314 but I have to be honest and mention that I paired them on different rigs. Haven't hooked a huge one yet; no doubt these pieces could handle it. Separate or as the combo. This set up will make the next trip to some saltwater with me as well.

Shawn, you can match reels to rods by matching the line pound test rating for both. The Slammer 7500 is rated for mono 15-30# so look for rods also rated 15-30. CARBWII1530S70 is a good choice for boat fishing.
I am very interested in getting a Slammer 3 and carnage 2 rod combo. I mostly do surf shark fishing. We have to cast quite far at some spots. I want to know if the 12 foot carnage 2 rod will do the job?
I am going to get the 8500 for live baiting for big amberjacks cousins (called Kingfish down in NZ here). Catching sharks and bit of surf casting off rocks. What i would love to know is should I get the new red HSA high speed version? I prefer the gold of normal one, but see the red one has a much higher retrieval rate of 50 inches per turn vs 42. The higher speed model has ratio of 5.3:1 vs 4.7:1. would this HS version have much less pulling power (torque) for the big kings & sharks? obviously it would be better for surf casting as get bait back heaps faster. worried about lack of grunt compared. Like i have a 6:1 trout reel and it struggles reeling in big lures vs my 4.7:1 reel that doesn't even notice bigger lures. Any thoughts? reckon the normal one that looks better will do? also can I get the HSA heavier jig knob bought separately do you know? thank you , love you're videos, watched 'em all. Dave down under
Hi, David. Both reels have a 50lb max drag. The Slammer III regular speed should be fine for the type of fishing you want to do. Unfortunately, the heavier jig knob is just sold with the HS reel.
What's the reason for putting an auto bail trip on the 5500 and smaller sizes, but a manual on the 6500 and up? I don't want an automatic bail on any size and especially on a 4500 or 5500 that I will be using to throw expensive plugs. Also is there a recommended way to remove the auto bail trip from my Slammer 5500? Thanks.
Also, I think its pretty common knowlage that its not good to store any reel with the drag cinched down. Yet both my Slammer 5500 and 7500 came out of the box with the drag locked as tight as it will go. Why is that?
Hey, Ian. The reason on the 5500 on down is because of lighter line and premature bail flip is not common on the smaller reels. You can remove part number 28 then you would have your manual bail. The spool may be tight because of the seals.
I own the 3500 version. Watching the schematics I guess 4500 share the same body size. Does the spool fit from one to another pen model? I also own a Spinfisher V but I guess the spool couldn't fit on my Slammer III Please let me know. Thanks !!

I fish hard and really hate when stuff breaks down quickly so I saved for the very best I could afford and it has been a very good experience. Hooked a blue marlin on a size 9 and lost it after a half hour because the leader was only 50lb. Reel was fine. have also caught lots of big sharks and some Goliath grouper.

Was a custom made Chaos rod. Was unfortunately from a time when the shop had changed hands and some extremely sub-par rods were made. They did give me a brand new one though.

I did. It appears the longest rod is a 7' in a 4k class. Does not appear to have a lure weight rating I could find.
