How nice that there are still people who can appreciate the "strength" and atmosphere of a real map. I've been hiking in the mountains for twenty years and I can't imagine switching to digital maps or using only a handheld GPS. While most of my friends have long since abandoned paper maps, I still buy new ones and still enjoy looking through them. Poring over a map just before a trip is a kind of ritual for me, something unique and impossible to happen when using other carriers. I will never give up classic maps. Let others look at smartphones and local applications. I don't mind it, but I still want to be able to "taste it" my way.
Thank you Marty. Greetings from Eastern Europe.
Its great being able to follow a map and figure out where you are. Love maps
I Have a Passion for Maps!!!,and Learning how to Navigate with a Compass and a Map is a Joy in itself ,Thanks Marty for the Info!,Stay Well!!!
Love maps and how the area is being explored, my hope is it's done responsibly.
Maps are still the best. I live in San Diego and GPS routinely gets it wrong costing me 10 to 15 minutes in delays. In the U.S., we used to have a company called the Thomas Guides and they were the best!!! I wish they were still selling. Thank you!!!
I love a good map too! I enjoyed hearing about your map maker friend...pretty cool!
Amazing!!! These maps are so detailed, thanks Marty for the tip. well worth the money. just received both today and very happy.
I love maps too.. nothing beats a good physical map!! These look gorgeous and so detailed, fantastic stuff!
Great timing 😉 I’m ordering one
I spent 4 days in white goat last summer.
All the trails on the Alberta parks maps were overgrown horse trails from outfitters that aren't allowed in there anymore.
No fires are allowed in White goat but we saw a few recently used fire pits...
It's a hard area to penetrate because of logistics. I'm not worried about promoting the area, my experience is still that most hikers rarely venture farther than 30 km from a trailhead or an exit point.
Do you think he would sell me the GPS trail files so I could have it on my phone 😅
Ordered them both and they just arrived !
Never thought I’d be watching a map review. Quite interesting. Hope your friend sells out 🗺️
That's the wonder of CZcams. Cheers.
Just ordered one. Thanks Marty. 😊
Thanks for the info Marty, definitely going to order one of those maps. Such a beautiful area
I got the Wilmore Wilderness map from this company. Marty is right! This is a quality useful tool.
I actually have started to take a compass to use with my map. I found that there is a lot you can do with that combo.
I replied to your survey and said I use paper maps in planning (I have quite the collection), implying that I don’t take them on trail. However, I do take paper maps when I’m going into areas that I’m not familiar with, or where I can’t use “Farout”. Thanks for the review! (I’m ordering one!)
Hi Marty, I miss all your trips you take hope everything is OK on your end? Take care!
I did a 3 winter hikes, but didn't post any videos. I have a hike coming up this weekend. I'm taking a different approach to a popular lake, so I'll probably post a vieo of that adventure. Cheers.
@@Martyupnorth looking forward to watching this hike. Was a nasty winter here in Ontario, mostly ice rain and cold. Have a good trip and I'll be waiting for the posting. Take care!
I’m desperately trying to find a distance between Cline River trailhead and the Cline River back country camp! You think I can find an actual distance? No! I’m taking my 7yo niece for her very first overnighter in the back country and I need MORE than just vague recollections of distance. Roar. This is a sudden pivot from Plan A, which was Whitehorse Creek -Trappers Camp. Access road is now closed due to mudslide. Can you help me out, Marty?
I assume you mean the trail head on the south side of the Cline River, commonly referred to as the Pinto Lake trail head. The trail follows the south shore of the Cline River, and is used to reach Landslide LAke, Pinto Lake and Lake of the Falls. The trail starts at 1,355 m above sea level. First major camp, called Turkey Point, is at km 4.3 (1,455 m). Not really a good summer spot because water is far away, and below the camp. Lots of firewood. Next site is Entry Creek at km 6.6 (1.434 m). Nice open site, bear lockers, river nearby, throne latrine, zero wood. It's been picked clean. Lots of great spots to pitch a tent. This is also the major junction to go south to Landslide and LoF. Next major camp is Waterfall Creek at km 16.5 (1,547 m). Not as pretty as Entry. Often wet because it's in the delta of the creek. This is where helicopters land. River is a bit farther. Following the river is a nice easy hike for a beginner.
@@Martyupnorth exactly. Okay. I can manage a fire-less camp with a little pocket stove and fuel. THANK YOU!
@@randytanyahermann2268 If you get to Entry Creek, and everyone is still strong, I suggest you turn south towards Landslide Lake. Just 1.2 km up that trail there is a gorgeous site where the forest opens up and you see Entry Creek. Well worth going there.
