    I LOVED the solitude on the Pinhoti! Living in New Orleans, LA we often poke fun at Alabama but no more! It is a beautiful state and has reallly great people.

    🎶Big miles keep on walking, carry me on to see my camp.
    Singin' songs about the trail lands.
    I see Alabamy once again and I think it's a win

    Sweet home Alabama

    Sweet home Alabama
    , Lord, I'm hiking up thru you.🎵

    60!: Nimblewill Nomad's age when he completed his first long hike. It was so encouraging to learn this one afternoon last year when I enjoyed meeting him on Flagg Mountain, with fearless hummingbirds stopping by.

    Dixie, Thank you for what you do! My wife has wanted to hike the trail for more than a decade and is currently on the AT should make mile 60 today which is her day 5. We have done plenty of section hiking but due to your videos, she feels much more confident to start. She is with our 14 year old son and moving north! You do help others follow their dreams so thanks!

    Live in Alabama too and starting this hobby recently as there are a lot of wilderness and trails in the state. So far I've hit a lot of trails around Tuscaloosa and Birmingham, now I'm eying the Pinhoti as a warm up for the AT. Planning on section hiking, can't commit to long term trips.
    Thanks for the video, gave me some ideas.

    You really got my attention. I live in Northern California and I tend to think about western trails. On top of that I was raised in New Jersey by Yankees who told me that the south was dangerous and southerners were crazy. I got over some of that but I really never think about the south. Thing is I’m 67. I’m not good for much more than 8 or 10 miles a day and I have real problems with altitude. I have a little money and plenty of time. The Pinhoti sounds like a trail I could hope to finish. I’m going to look into it.

    I've spent some time parooting around on the Pinhoti; 18 years ago (gasp), I worked a contractor job at Gunter in Montgomery for a few months - I would alternate weekends, one weekend I would go home to Louisiana and the wife and kids, the other I would stay in Montgomery. On those weekends I would drive around exploring, and that's how I found the Pinhoti. That area around Cheaha is a pretty area in a pretty state - years later, I took my flatlander kids there as their first exposure to mountains.

    Can't wait to see more of the Pinhoti! I'm right down here in florida & was planning on making it my first backpacking trip this spring, but unfortunately my sister shipped all of backpacking gear home from MT without insurance and it's been gone for months... Hopefully Dixie's videos will keep me happy in the meantime. :-}

    It's very interesting to see this through hiker culture developing before our eyes. I am a real history buff. This reminds me of the days after Siddhartha (affectionately The Bhudda). There was this fervent "monk seeking enlightenment" period that lasted a century or so. These monks traveled endlessly seeking enlightenment, and they were an accepted and even revered part of the culture. They were given food and shelter when they could not provide it through their own efforts, kind of like trail magic, Patreon, CZcams..

    Hey Dixie! Great intro video. Your comment at the end about being embarrassed is so true of many of us. I live very close to the PCT in SoCal and I never knew it was here. I never knew the PNT existed and went right through Whidbey Island when I lived there. You have inspired so many of us to get out and hike, to learn what’s around us, be adventurous and have fun. My first local jaunt after watching you for months was summiting Mt Baden Powell back in July. Keep inspiring Dixie, and hike on!!!

    My husband and I were surprisingly impressed with the he beauty of northeastern Alabama when we spent 10 days camping and exploring the area. It’s definitely on our list to revisit spending more time exploring the area even more. We didn’t know much about the area when we planned a camping trip to the Lake Guntersville campground. We just wanted a place where we could see some fall foliage that wasn’t too far of a drive from our home in Orlando. We absolutely fell in love with the area.
