Kelly, a good defense against poison ivy (which releases its oil on your skin)is Dawn dish detergent. That’s what was used to clean the oil off the birds caught in oil spills. Coat the detergent on the area and scrub throughly and then repeat. Since Dawn can remove thick crude oil from the feathers of a bird, it definitely works for poison ivy. Hope you have no contact.
I'm really looking forward to this series. I've had my eye on the Pinhoti for a while. Can't wait to see it from your POV.
I have followed a few people on this trail, but was late fall or early spring. Never seen it so green. Good luck and thanks for sharing👍👍
Hey Kelly , Love your series of Hikes . I do the same thing. I dehydrate pinto beans and add dehydrated chicken , pork or ground bison. Then add white chili seasoning. Its so good. You can also do it with taco seasoning or regular chili seasoning one pointer on dehydrating meat . Cook in pressure cooker first then dehydrate. So Your meat won't be hard and chewy. I love fixing my own meals. Saves money and enables you to Hike More without stocking up on junk food all the time. Love your videos .
Love those flowers! They’re out in full bloom on the AT right now and I absolutely love it! Great video! Enjoy your hike!
Cumberland trail next? Connects to the Pinhote and one day will be an alternate route for the southern AT. Right now its incomplete so just a bunch of broken sections. Part of the Great Eastern trail plan.
Heck yeah I’ll have a train track crossing and a old general store in Alabama! I’ll virtually be in a ole brother where art thou movie!RUNOFT on the trail of life! What what🥰👊🏼
Kelly, well...the secret is out ! You've outed how awesome Flagg Mountain & the Southern Terminus of the Pinhoti Trail is in the Spring. Great video...enjoyed it. Looking forward to watching the next episodes.
JBEN
Excellent! Following along….
✨🦎✨
So happy to have seen a Kelly Hays video released this morning. Thank you!
Yeah 👍
What a beautiful hike and scenery....the mountain laurel's were just amazing! Be safe and be Blessed!
Hey Kelly, looks like you had a great first day of hiking. Walking through that Mtn. Laurel made me a little jealous, haven't been able to hike when our state flower is in bloom for many many years, you guys were very lucky. Enjoy!
Ouch on the poison ivy, but poison oak is even more suffering. That was a Black Kingsnake that loves eating copperheads. Glad you're back...
Excited to be following you two again!
Great to see y’all on the trail again! Keep us updated on your 35L pack. Gorgeous scenery!
So excited for this hike!! It is cool to see you in places I have hiked. You saw a small part of why my home state is called Alabama the Beautiful! It's so cool to see you and Tripod hiking in some of the places that I have hiked.
Dude 9 lives what up?! Smokey Bear here, I hope you are doing well. Dude I’m doing the Pinhoti trail to Katahdin next year starting 3-11-2024 baby! Hope I’ll see you sometime. Good bless sis.
Beautiful flowers all along the trail. Great first day.
Awesome first day Kelly. Great video 😊
Dang Kelly, your footage and editing really are remarkable. 8:42 This bench was straight outta Narnia. 😊 My heart sank when you mentioned poison ivy. I looked like a burn victim the last time I got it; be careful. Thank you for another series! ✌️
It’s so awesome to see you out on the trail again!! It’s a beauty😍 THOSE FLOWERS🥰🥰 I SURE WILL BE LOOKING FORWARD TO EVERY VLOG💗🙏
Thanks for doing the Pihoti. I have hiked some of the trail but have plans on doing the rest. Hope you enjoyed it.
Awesome! I didn’t see your trail announcement, so it’s awesome to see you’re doing the Pinhoti. That’s one of my favorite hiking, backpacking, and mountain biking trails. I’m about 45 mins away from the northern terminus. Enjoy the trail, and I hope to see you guys out there!
Looks like it was a beautiful first day! Thanks for sharing your new dinner concoction, I love seeing how creative hikers get with their cuisine! Stay safe out there, looks like rough road ahead based on the photos you've shared but we know you can pull through any challenge!
What a pretty hike !!! Thanks for taking us along
Great scenery....
Looking forward to this series since it's in my backyard! Chuck Norris and all thr POC folks are awesome!
Yes they are!!!
So excited for this series!!! Love all of your videos!
You should try the hiking trail in the Point Washington State Forest
Now that trail looks inviting...even the snake waved.
Miss Kelly, even with the late start you two still got some good miles in. Snake, YIKES! Poison Ivy stay away from Miss Kelly!
Glad your back on the trails, love your videos
I thought for sure you’d be at trail days!!! Happy trails
Love your hat. NFA ❤️⚡️💙
Hello beautiful glad to see you start a new journey on a new trail I'm sure it will be fun 😊
Pretty views! Thank you for taking us along. I thought you were in AR at first as the trail kind of resembles some of the forest there. Safe travels through the forest.
Yeah, keep your eyes open for that nasty poison ivy, I know it can get really bad. So great to see you both back on trail, that's really nice.
Start to a new trail.. enjoy and stay safe my friend.. love ❤️ from New Mexico..
Great video! Welcome to Flagg Mountain and the POC. Nice first day. Crow
Awesome start!!
The trail is already awesome and that waymark backpack is sweet I want to get the mile 28 l one
Glad to see you back on trail , i missed why you picked it
I thought I was the only one who had the Smart Water sports top do that!
If you get the ivy....take antihistimines....they help a lot....good luck.
Thanks!
Yes beware their is a lot of poison ivy, so stay on trail as much as possible. Looking forward to your videos on Adam's Gap to Cheaha State Park and the Snake in GA, two of my favorite parts. Just under 7 miles passed Porters gap you will have about 2 miles of rock fields, it's slow going just take your time and be safe.
Awesome. My home state👍
very nice
✌️your vids are miles ahead of the rest.🎉
Sunglasses look amazing! Keep crushing it!
And you’re off! Actually probably finished lol. But awesome to see you on the trail again!!
We have the Ice Age Trail here in Wisconsin. Approximately 1200 miles long. Unfortunately I think there’s a decent amount of road hiking. That probably puts many serious hikers off. I live on a road portion of the trail. It actually goes through the small town I live in. Occasionally I see people walking by with their packs and sticks. But not too often. Upon doing some research. It looks like only about 100 people have thru hiked it.
Welcome to Sweet home Alabama ! Kelly and Tripod ! 😮 First day out just exciting as last day IT BE FINE😊
I pray you are able to avoid all the poison ivy. The trail so far is fabulous. Happy hiking.
Wow, great first day. Thank you, the mountain laurel was beautiful. Hope the ivy doesn't get you. Take care and stay safe.
Thanks! So jealous. You and " Tripod " Grab a cold beer and think of me!
well I hope those photos at the end weren't foreshadowing of what's to come! Good luck!
James operating the camera etc!😂
Black Kingsnake. Immune to snake venom. They will eat venomous snakes. Good to have around. Good luck on the Pinhoti. Will be following along.
good luck!
No moss growing under your feet Kelly!
Poison ivy is the worst, I always get it. Alcohol based cleanser after you touch it helps. Like your hat.
.. WHAT ?? Chuck Norris shuttled you ,, I would guess there's no rif-raf troubles on that trail ...
I hope you have an epic adventure. Be very careful and stay away from that nasty poison ivy. Take care
Wow, what a beautiful trail! This is going to be a great trip. Love your videos. Just out of curiosity, what do you use for editing and posting when on your thru hikes? Have fun!
That was a quick turn around.
Use your wipes to wipe down right away if you come in contact with ivy. Thanks for your video!
Ugh! Poison ivy … it’s always something! That little preview at the end of this video looked like an incident!
hey Kelly! I really enjoy your videos! what sun shirt are you wearing? I really like it!
Thank you! It’s a jolly gear sun hoodie!
😍😍 wish I there
Hi Kelly and Tripod!!!
About that foam sleeping pad… is that a preference for lighter weight as opposed to a self-inflater like a thermorest? I hate accordion foamies & find them torturous. Each his own of course. What say you?
I would say the foam pad doesn’t save much weight and is more bulky to deal with, on the other hand, for me, it was easier to just lay out and sleep on, didn’t have to worry about getting holes or blowing it up every night and it doubled as much air pad throughout the day. Took my a while to get used to sleeping on it but I think it’s all personal preference
I like to carry my poop kit on a small side pouch on my Fanny pack so it can just drop my pack and get it done faster.
👍
I hope you can avoid the poison Ivy on the trail 🌻 👣
Is your trail name going to have to change to "Bonus Miles"? Aloe Vera cactus sap is a good antidote for poison plants. Have fun. Good Luck, Rick
Photo preview at the end? Poison ivy ruined my summer vaca when i was 12....
For my poison ivy some years ago I was given diprolene/bactroban. Sure seemed to have done the job. I found myself standing in a heavy ground cover of poison ivy while searching for a trail. My ankles paid the price. Running stream water had no effect on washing it out. Best wishes to you.
You definitely need more than water to remove the poison ivy oils that cause the rash. Plus once it's made contact with your skin washing it off doesn't really matter, it's already done the damage unfortunately.
I'm very allergic to it and have a very severe reaction to it. Always had to get high dose prednisone shots whenever I got it and it still would take me about a month of extreme discomfort to get rid of it ☹
Thanks for that. I have been avoiding poison ivy for the last ten years.
what state is this
Hope you can avoid the poison ivy, so you can enjoy the trail.
Whoah Kelly you’re like a cool version of a dirty blond Hannah Montana 🌹💚too cute! Bless you on your journeys my child🍀🙏
Are you gonna be able to finish this trail without leaving before the end? It seems like something causes you to leave every thru hike.
Yeah life has been happening the past couple years! Guess you gotta stay tuned to find out for this one
I wouldn’t have stopped at that store. Shameful display.
