- Queen Cleopatra recently released on Netflix, and it has opened to horrible reviews to say the least. Currently it sits at 1 percent on rotten tomato's audience reviews and only 13 percent from critics. But not only has Netflix's Queen Cleopatra documentary annoyed audiences it has also angered Egyptians as they say that the documentary has rewritten their own history and destroyed it. And as a response to this the actress who played Cleopatra Adele James, has called critics and Egyptian people fundamentally racist.

Past events, it is argued, have no objective existence, but survive only in written records and in human memories. The past is whatever the records and the memories agree upon. And since the Party is in full control of all records, and in equally full control of the minds of its members, it follows that the past is whatever the Party chooses to make it."

The coping is off the charts. Ancient Egyptians were “black,” Native Americans were “black,” the Israelites were “black.” The name _Cleopatra_ is a Greek name. She was Greek. The earliest known artistic renditions of her depict her as…white.

I'm an Egyptian, and my father is a tour guide who's spent his whole life studying and giving lectures about Egyptian history; he's really passionate about it, and I grew up listening to him telling me brief parts of our history.
When he saw this he was SOOOOO MAD - see, if it was just some kid's cartoon misinterpreting Egyptian history and customs/culture out of ignorance, which I'm sure you CAN find somewhere on the internet, it wouldn't even bother us, hasn't bothered us for years. Not a lot of Egyptians are all that involved in western media drama and politics.
But this was just going TOO far. My father said he felt like it was done with bad intentions. He and I were straight up laughing at the incredulity, the audaciousness of that "documentary".
I literally live RIGHT NEXT TO THE PYRAMIDS 🤣🤣🤣🤣 And then I hear or read about some bullshit about how I, as an Egyptian, "don't know my own history" and "my country is full of racist people who were originally black people invaded by Arabs and westerners so we're invaders".

Sorry, but so many were miseducated. it is not his fault. The truth about history is coming and you better prepare for it.
also, you may even have ancestors who were arabs conquering Egypt, but so what? It’s not like the arabs came in, slaughtered everyone and colonized the land. They became the rulers, but most of the population remained roman and/or native egyptian. The two groups just mixed with each other through time. Egyptians can claim descent from 3 great historical civilizations: the arabs, the romans and the native egyptians. One doesn’t cancel the others!!!

The story was told like a conspiracy theory, heavily generalizing and not mentioning facts which don't fit the narrative. I watched it and also read articles about it afterwards and it became pretty obvious this show was complete bs, but the damage was done.
