We're all guilty of buying into the media's portrayal of a player every now and then. The inconvenient truth is, it's easier than accepting them as complex, fallible human beings - like the rest of us. With that in mind, we wanted to create a platform where top-level pros could tell an unfiltered, raw and honest account of events. So here it is, Behind the Headlines. We hope you enjoy.
Former Spurs captain opens up about his career-long battle with injuries, growing up playing alongside John Terry and racism in the media

I tore an ACL a couple of years ago, had an operation and then played football twice a year later and got another knee injury and then I quit football since I thought it isn't really worth it when you're just an amateur so I have a lot of respect for players that keep coming back from injuries.

Ledley King is hands down one of the best, if not, the very best English defender in the last 20 years! His ability was next level and I’m so sad that he never got to reach his full potential due to injuries.
He had the ability to be one of the greatest defenders in the world, and if it wasn’t for injuries I could of seen him going to Barcelona/Madrid if he decided to move
He’s also one of the most level headed geezers ever, always open and honest. Never bullshits about anything and an all round good guy
I would of loved to see him play to his full potential, see him become a world renowned defender. But his knees just couldn’t take it anymore
He’s always brought up in conversations between my friends, despite him having to retire early, still the best defender we’ve produced in a very long time in my opinion

I've been critical of Sterling for a while, and I think there are issues people have which are valid; but King has made me realize an unconscious bias in me. I think he's right about people like me. Sterling, according to his team's and Pep is a hard worker. I've heard these things, seen him improve, but still didn't give him credit.
