In the aftermath of the Sandy Hook tragedy, Newtown residents engaged in a debate over guns that could have taken place almost anywhere in America. The issue: Should amateur shooting ranges be subject to inspection and approval by the police chief? On one side were residents concerned about noise and unregulated shooting. On the other, those who see gun rights as an essential American freedom.

So in Connecticut you can't hunt with a gun on Sundays, but you can use a bow/crossbow because it's quiet. If you were to hunt with a gun and were fortunate to harvest game you might shoot once or twice, but there is no law to keep target shooting quiet on Sundays so folks have to endure the disturbing of the peace by the NRA crowd out to make a point. And they wonder why the majority of people dislike them? You're NOT a good neighbor running 200 rounds through your AR-15 at 9am on Sunday

    • @randibgood
      @randibgood Před rokem +4

I think they (NRA) must send out blast texts or emails filling them with fodder about their guns getting confiscated. No civilian needs a weapon that was SPECIFICALLY invented and designed to be used in war by the U.S. Army. No civilian needs weapons that accepts magazines. I don't even think civilians need semi-automatic weapons. I feel perfectly safe with our guns. They are all heirloom long guns, and almost as old as I am (11/68) with one exception. That exception is a one shot, that accepts either a rimmed .45 or a .410 shotgun shell. Why anyone NEEDS a 30 round magazine is absolutely foreign to me. I've been alive for 53 years and I have still not accumulated enough enemies to justify an AR-15. Or anything comparable.

You must be a certain age, have a modicum of physical ability, the intellect and judgment to be safe, maintain a safe standard of the vehicle, pass regular testing, and be free of certain legal offenses. Guns should be treated the same. Train, upkeep, qualify, prove by your actions. Failing any of these, no, you don’t own a firearm. Do you give a fully operative tank to a five year old? No. Should an ordinary adult citizen own a flame shooter? No. Want that? Join the military.

Until we change our cultural perception and adhesion to guns, we can expect more shootings and more grief.
The 2nd Amendment states clearly its purpose, "A well regulated militia, necessary to the security of a free state, the right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."
Contextually written during a time when the "arms" referred to were flintlock rifles that required lighting smoke and oakum to fire.
It is time to rewrite the 2nd Amendment to account for advanced technology that we now have and did not exist when it was ratified.
No one NEEDS to possess a military grade assault weapon.
    The shooter at Robb Elementary
repeatedly fired on little children, decapitating some and turning others into a mangled lump of blood and flesh.
We must change as a species:
We have become obscenely selfish and entitled.
Banning assault weapons is a must but we need to focus on mental health issues simultaneously. The NRA should go back to teaching firearm safety instead of whipping up rabid ignorance of 'rights,' promoting the misconception that gun owners have more rights than the unarmed.
I find it curious that the same people who are willing to criminalize a women's right to choose, to manage her own body, have no interest in protecting children.

ALL semi automatic firearms. They’re FAR closer to auto machine guns than the single shot firearms mentioned in the 2nd. 100 round magazines firing 2,3,4 or more rounds per second? That’s a war weapon causing mass casualties. “Self defense,” my ass!
Single-shot firearms only. 1-2 rounds per minute are what the 2nd guarantees. That’s it.
Sami auto are military weapons and should be reserved for that use, just like machine guns, SAWs, rocket launchers, Howitzers, tanks, fighter jets & war ships.

Imagine seeing someone you love, viciously cut apart and decapitated by a weapon that should never be available to civilians.

Having a weapon does not require one to murder anyone. Being murdered by someone is already illegal.
Another example of your bad logic is when you call gun ownership a right and then later you call it a privilege. Gun ownership cannot be both a right and a privilege at the same time. Changing from one to the other would be a fundamental shift in power distribution. It is better if power is more distributed compared with power being concentrated in the hands of a few. On the Gun control issue, It is "my personal opinion" That Yes we do have a right to bare arms, to protect our families and defend against attackers AS the constitution states. It is NOT the legal, legitimate or responsible gun owner that we need to target, but a control on the purchasing of a fire arm.
It takes far more time to adopt a child than it takes to get a permit to own a firearm, Why?
It takes far more testing and scrutiny to get a drivers permit, than it takes to get a permit to own a firearm, WHY?
It takes far more time for a business to get a liquor license to sell liquor, than it takes to get a permit to own a firearm. WHY?
I am sure I will hear a flood of off the top comments in every direction, but the fact of the matter is "WE" as the people of this FREE land need to find a common ground soon. Again it is NOT the responsible gun owners that is to burden the blame for the mass shootings, It is the lack of control on the Guns/weapons that are available to "Anyone" at anytime!

We can not change fate, but we could be a better people. That is a decision that will be up to us how we treat our children and eachother. What we expose our children to in our homes, what kind of parents we are. We can always continue to put an excuse on top of another excuse knowing full well this life was not and will never be a paradise that is why there are consequences to everything we do. No one just goes off killing kids, torturing humans and causing war in the world with evil intent and gets a slap on the wrist the hellfire exists for a reason and its beyond what you even think just like you dont know everything so let's stop acting like know it alls and be better people.
