  • We'll be Explaining the Historic Heroes Square (Hősök tere) in Budapest for you in this video, go through the history of this famous attracion of the Hungarian capital, and get a bit of help from AI to imagine how some of the people these statues represent may have looked like!
    At the end of the UNESCO World Heritage site of Andrássy Avenue lies the Heroes Square which hosts the Millenial Monument that commemorated the 1000 year anniversary of the Hungarian tribes settling here on the Pannonian Plains. It is one of the top attractions of Budapest that hosts many statues, but without a Tour guide they may be just nice material for your instagram. If you really wish to understand the meaning behind these statues, we got you covered here! Besides the statues there are many interesting facts about the Heroes Square! What does the name mean? Why does the angel hold a crown at the top of the main column? What was here before this was built?
    Watching this video will not only give an explanation about the Heroes Square, but also gives a brief glimps at Hungarian History!
    We used a combination of Midjourney, ElevenLabs and D-ID to create some realistic images of the important people displayed here and also get them to say a few words about themselves.

    This is where I started my walk. I didn't even know there was a castle behind it, went there just because I always check on the parks as well. I loved your parks! And I'm picky with these, coming from Bulgaria. And baaam - a castle. And a Baloon. And the zoo. And a steaming lake! Definitely worth walking to and around this square! Thanks for the explanation!

    When I was there in 1996-7 there were always a few kids on skateboards in the square, having fun...great history lesson

    Thanks for the video! Although I know quite a bit about this place, there’s always something new to learn. I think my favourite king is Mátyás Corvinus because of his accomplishments and intriguing life (and because he also was a great lover of the Kuvasz, as am I 😄).
    As mentioned in another comment, I was one of the kids skating on Hősök tere. My friends and I would come all the way from Farkasrét in the Buda hills to skate here … those were the days 😃

    great video as always, Budapest is such a beautiful city, I've walked from The Buda Castle (across the Chain Bridge) to Hero's Square, a feast for the eyes :)

      That is a long walk, but very scenic indeed 😊 And perhaps easier in that direction than ending with going up the hill of the Buda Castle 😅

    When I was in Budapest, I had planned to walk to Heroes' Square along Andrássy avenue but only made it as far as Oktogon before diverting my attention elsewhere. My favourite has to be Coloman the Learned, just based on the anti-witch-burning alone.

    While the AI bits are a little bit cringe, they do bring those historical personalities to life and I think are a great addition to the video overall. :)
    It is no surprise that the Communists replaced the Hapsburgs, but all in all they are not really a loss from there.
    Except Maria Theresa. She definitely deserves a statue somewhere in Budapest.

    • @StuffedCabbageAdventures
      @StuffedCabbageAdventures  Před 5 měsíci +2

      Maria Theresa is indeed interesting, her statue that stood at the Heroes Square was relocated to Gödöllő and is now at the "Sissi" Palace. But there is no other statue of her in Budapest at all, despite her significance in our history... Sissi edges her out in popularity I guess. :D

    My favourites are: Kálmán, Károly, Lajos the great (most probably more educated than Kálmán, but not famous for it) and Mátyás (if he really was just). 😁
