  • [Recorded on 3-18-21 at 4:47pm] For where the elevator malfunctions, go to 4:31 in the video. What happened was while the elevator was accelerating, it suddenly came to a halt, which came as quite a shock to me (it felt as if the elevator was free-falling for about one second). I've never been stuck in an elevator before, but this is the closest I've come.
These elevators were installed in 1966 by Westinghouse, then were modded, likely in the 2000s, by Schindler. Despite the mod, many features of the old elevators were kept, such as the "this car up" lanterns in the lobby as well as some of the bells. When this building opened 55 years ago, it was the tallest building in Florida, surpassing the Floridan Palace, until the Park Tower was built in 1972.

That’s cool that Tampa has basements, the building has a 13th floor, and a good amount of floors.
    Floors: 23 (B-22)

It seems like the service elevator cab view is probably the original cab view, it does look worn out that’s for sure. Great thing you didn’t got busted though, however that malfunction was scary. I would’ve freaked out too!

Had this happen to me on a 500A in Stamford Connecticut. Except the car emergency braked in place before the doors reopened on 16. I should have paid attention to the warning signs: 1 chime for down even though it was the top floor, arrow on indicator did not go out for the entire duration the door was open & even closing {mind you, not MCE controller, proprietary controller by Schindler & even if it was MCE the arrow would be pointing down NOT UP - major red flag} & then as the door closed the indicator still pointed up even when it was the top floor. So then the indicator disappeared then pointed back down & lift broke down in place shaking violently. Had the door not reopened I would have been stuck exactly on the floor, which isn't as bad as being stuck in between floors because the fire/police can just pry the door open & it's an easily walk out the lift. Sorry this happened m8
