I have this radio that was my father's. He got it brand new and used it for many years before his passing. He asked me to take it just before his passing. I just got my ticket, finally, and will get it out of storage and check it over. Thanks for the really nice videos. I'll keep watching.

Great job Buddy. I love watching over your shoulder as you sneak up on the problems. Thank you for sharing them with us. I know what you mean about the wife wanting the kitchen remodeled. My wife has been after me for the same thing. I've been using the "lack of money" excuse but that will come to a halt right after the end of the year LOL. Our kitchen has been painted hot pink (by the previous owner). Wishing you good luck with your remodel job. Remember to stay safe. 73 DE K7RMJ Frank

Got everything ripped out last week end. Replaced the sub flooring over 80% of the kitchen. Got the new cabinets built and installed. Bought a new stove and microwave. Have to make the doors for the lower new cabinets and also the uppers. Start the painting this week then install the new floor covering. So about half done.

I haven't been able to upload as many videos lately due to my workload either, I have a stack of radios that are either half done, or waiting for me to do them... will be glad once I can get back to them! at the moment I am trying to fix a Fluke 5200A AC Calibrator, which is turning into a big job.
I still need to finish my channel conversion board for the Cobra 148, it is so close to being finished, I just need to re-write some of the code for the handling of the bands, but time is against me at the moment.

Good on ya for doing the job the right way! I wonder how many techs would just hit that terminal with a bit of flux and solder and call it done? I knew you wouldn't, and I bet Mike and Peter certainly wouldn't either. A fair bit more work to do it properly, but well worth it.

A shame someone tried to shortcut installing the trimmer cap. Just shows why doing it right the first time is so important.

Fantastic tutorial thank you. I have the ZD mk 2 which has a different counter/display board to the one depicted here. (no DIP switches). My rig has a completely blank display. Does anybody know if the 7 segment LED devices are common anode or common cathode? (and which is the common pin) please? The only service manual I have if for the Mark 1 version. I intend to check the 7segment devices (with a 9V pp3 battery and current limiting resistor) I thought I would work back from the display onto the board and check the FET, 5V lines etc.

@@TheRadioShop For the record it turned out to be the LSI chip fitted to the Mark 2 versions. I was lucky - I founda replacement on ebay which works fine. But there is another solution - A Japanese amateur has devised a drop in replacent chip based on a a PIC which replicates all the funnctions of the LSI chip. I have one of these but didn't need to fit it as the Ebay one worked perfectly. If anyone wants details of the Japanese replacement chip leave a message here...

Nice job on the repair. I have a Mark III Yaesu FT-101ZD that on occasion when I switch to CW or AM modes then return to SSB. The display shows 4 KHz lower than the actual frequency that the VFO is producing. A back and forth on the Mode Switch generally will cause the VFO Display to return to a correct reading. Is this a common issue with these units ?

First which version do you have? there are several. Does the radio work and just the display bad? Also there are many things that can cause this issue. This uses TTL and lots of things from bad connections to failed IC's. Can even be communications faults causing the issue.
