    I'm 53 years old. I just completed the Past Authering segment. After weeks of brutal honest self analysis, the painful conclusion was summed up in the very last sentence I wrote;
    It's not them, it's me.

      The Rich Rose ... You probably haven't been looking hard enough. Just bc it's expensive doesn't mean it's a scam. Self development coaches (supposedly) invest a lot of time into money in researching and developing these programs. They need to make that investment back somehow which is why it ends up costing thousands of dollars for these programs. I think JP just cares about humanity enough to make it cheap.

      Some self-help programs do have some merit and results, if people understand how to use them to their own improvement and how to recognize and deal with past issues of their life that hold them back. There might be a balance between legit/scam on those.
      However, some people think paying these self-help programs are like purchasing a immediate fix, when they don't really believe the solution will have to come from within (with some external guidance).
      I don't blame them, changing, many times, to an almost completely new person, its not easy and its almost like a jump of faith (in yourself).

    After listening to hours of your awesome lectures and interviews, I found myself naturally descending into the underworld, unconsciously pin-pointing my personalities problems and finding the causes, in the past, in my education, my relationship to my parents ... It truly brings great relief to be able to (without wining) realize where it all started, and to know that you can chop down the dragon into manageable pieces,
    My advice, for those in the same situation, is to remain calm, and, tho it looks like you are spiraling down into negative emotions, it is not permanent! That's what the monster looks like, if you are willing to look at it, before you hack at it.
    Peace and Respect!

    A few months ago I actually structured my past according to the historical epochs that we have lived through, namely: Pre-History (age 0-4), Classical Antiquity (age 5-8), Dark Ages (age 9-15), The Renaissance (age 16-19), The Enlightenment (age 20-24), and Post-Modernity (age 25-32). Each of these epochs had/have their own overriding narrative structure/worldview and mode of being associated with them. Living life as a Christian fundamentalist is not the same as living life as a materialistic reductionist which is not the same as living life as methodological pluralist and etc.

    I've come across Dr. Peterson about 3 ou 4 years ago, through my husband and with the 12 Rules for life book.
    For the first moment I liked to hear what Dr. Peterson said!!!! Ic ompletely agree with your vision of Life!!!!
    I thought I would love so much to have a conversation with you, Dr Peterson...
    You are going to be here, in Portugal, in Porto, 2 hours from the place where I live! But, unfortunately, I won't be able to attend...I won't be in Portugal...
    About Selfauthoring, I've only come across it now! And it seems it has already some years!
    😊
    Ibought it and I'm doing it!!!!
    I hope it can help me understand myself better!!!!
    I believe there are so many things we still don't know about oursekves!
    Thank you, Dr. Peterson! ❤

    Nevertheless, his work has been a great help, I thank him sincerely!

    i just bought the program. i did a similar one for a college navigation class that i didnt even want to take. we used the book titled "on course" ... it was life changing. the author was inspired by and implemented studies and a program from harvard university and the whole thing was very reassuring, it made me realize that i wasnt crazy as for the root cause of everything in my life, behaviors, choices.. but the approach is the one that really felt empowering.. and i was left with wanting more so i bought yours.

    I agree. People say that talking about issues with others helps clear them up. I think writing can do the same, even if no one else reads it. Putting youe ideas/ experience down helps you sort shit out.

  • @globalko

    Just stumbled upon this, but I had a struggle in the middle of the summer and without knowledge of this I started to just natuarlly write about 4-5 pages of every thing that bothered me about my past experiences and it really cleared up everything. So just by hearing this I think that it might have something to it. Another thing that I've notcied is most oftenly big thoughts that I struggle to compose may have me going for hours and I can't sleep and then when I've gotten the oportunity to write it down it was summed down to 2 sentences, which is really crazy if u think about it.

    Since this has been posted on CZcams to everyone from all walks of life, I'll add one caveat. This can be not only dangerous but ultimately harmful if you are stuck in a highly abusive environment with no access to emotional support, whether or not anyone else reads your writings. It's best to undertake this once you are in a less abusive environment or have at least some genuine emotional support.

    • @d3g3n3r4t3
      @d3g3n3r4t3 Před 2 lety +7

      Can't say I agree with you, at least when you understand that there's a reason that someone is in such a situation. This very likely could be the thing that helps them see things clearly and formulate a plan to get out of that situation. If someone is going to implement a plan to address their toxic situation right away, then waiting till after seems ok; but they haven't done anything about it up until this point, what makes you think they would do it without going over their situation with a fine tooth comb and coming up with possible ways to address their situation? It seems that that is the most logical first step but if thinking too far ahead into the future and delving too much in their past is a bit overwhelming for them at the moment, I would say that it makes sense to just focus on getting out of that toxic environment.

    • @GnomeInPlaid

    So true! We are looking for an answer in our outside world, trying and consuming ourselves for answers about it, but...what about our inner world? "Simple" questions of who are we? What is our purpose here and now? These...we don't know! The Quest should be look inside you! Try to become a better you, everyday! If we, each one of us, know eacher onther better, we would understand and make this workd much better, too!
