    When I was young and just starting to play, I was obsessed with Johnny Winter’s blues rock soloing prowess.
    Fast forward to right now - 2019 - his brother Edgar Winter is coming over to my studio and having me record guitar parts on a Johnny Winter tribute record !!!!
    Here’s the story, and a free CZcams lesson on soloing in the style of Johnny
    This free CZcams lesson is an excerpt from a 9 video episode we just added to the Masterclass.

      “possibly” hell. I think it’s the best song ever recorded. Pure, raw, unreal clean and emotional. I’m thrilled to hear you say it though. Not enough people know of his genius.
      A gift from God. The Picasso of guitar playing

    Johnny Winter is an okay guitarist I guess... I mean I only started listening to him in '69 and have only seen him live 50 times. Hell I never drove more than three days to see him play. It's not like I have his entire discography... I don't own the one talked about here...yet. Okay, so I have one of his guitars but that's only because he gave it to me, it's not like I went out and bought the darn thing. Yeah, one of the walls in my music room is covered in Johnny Winter concert posters and memorabilia, but hey, what was I supposed to do? That wall looked empty and dull. That lady in Hollywood who sells rare and hard to find posters keeps selling JW stuff to me so I have to put it somewhere and the Rory Gallagher wall was taken. Sure he is always in my iPod... what am I supposed to do... listen to other Blues guitarists all day?

      @awickedtribe Před rokem +4

      @@TomKaszuba I saw him the year before he passed away... I was excited because I was taking my brother and his friend to see JW for their first time. I had talked him up for months and played them several JW albums, then took them both to see him.
      When they announced him I was all jacked-up and excited... then he came out with s shuffling step, hand on a guys shoulder, being led to the stage. The guy took JW's hand off his shoulder, then went to set up his little chair. While he was doing this JW looked confused and started to walk off stage, but his guide got him and helped to his chair, then took up his guitar off the stand. I was sad thinking that this was going to be my bro's first Johnny Winter experience. and then the guy put that guitar in Johnny's hands... and for the next hour+ my brother and his friend had their ears pierced and the thier minds blown.
      I knew Johnny in the 70s and had seen him at his worst, so I should have known he was going to shine! I had tickets to go see him when he died.... that was a sad freakin' day for me.

    Johnny Winter, Jimi Hendrix and Leslie West are my main influences growing up. Johnny was a unique guitar player for his time. He used a thumb pick and was a hard core Blues Guitarist that rocked the house. No one plays or sounds anything like Johnny. Jimi liked Johnny's guitar playing so much he would some times play bass when they jammed. Jimi also played bass on his early recordings. I don't think most people realize how good Johnny really was. I do. He was a killer guitar player!

    One of the coolest aspects of soloing over one chord is the freedom. As long as you know how to come back inside, you can get very interesting sounds by going outside of the harmony.

    Just heard a song from the JW And... live album this morning by way of my portable music player while on a dog walk. Johnny B. Good, specifically. Yep, you aren't the only one out there still listening to JW and Rick Derringer after all these years. That said, I might as well drop this story about you here: My neighbor is from a well known Hollywood family who often participates in various charity events in L.A. and Palm Springs. Recently after one such event in Palm Springs he made mention that he did a live comedy bit on stage in front of a crowd. The bit was him singing along to the Sinatra song, Something Stupid, duet style with someone singing Nancy Sinatra's part. He showed me the video on his phone. I asked who his singing partner was. "Oh, she's married to the long time guitarist of Rick Springf... and before he could finish his name, I said, "Tim Pierce." He looked at me stunned. "How could you possibly know that?" I had to remind him I know a thing or two about musicians. ;)

Just magnificent compositions and executions. Everyone is different and insane. I love that guy! @@timpierceguitar Great vid, man! I've heard the headstocks on those Firebirds are super fragile though. When you doinked it on the table I tensed up a little, haha!

    Don't know why Tim, but this one just seemed to be one of my favorites. Your enthusiasm is inspiring. Keep it up. 🙏

    I feel like you and I both and a whole lot of other musicians get that satisfaction out of something you play but not all of us show it on our faces like that I love it!!! Music is so special you use your ears but ignites a fire in all our senses at the same time

    Great right hand technique at approximately 0:15 Tim. Thank you. The Winter brothers are great musicians. I saw and met them with their group 'Black Plague'. RIP Johnny.
