Believe me most villa fans aren’t as naive to think we’re title contenders but what we are hoping for and is a real possibility is win the Europa conference league and sneak a champions league spot by getting top four/five..that would be a great season
As a villa fan all I've ever wanted is to be able to compete with the best teams and I feel now with emery at the helm we can compete with anyone
Only got to win 5 of 11 home games left and balanced away points history shows any team who wins 13-15 home games finish top 4, it’s not even about staying humble it’s stats and stats say villa are a top 3 team ,
I concur
As a Villa fan who's followed and loved them and been frustrated by them since the third division all I've ever wanted from our team was to at least perform well. Even under big fat Ron we may not have been brilliant but at least we played attractive football to be proud of. Emery is a different class and he's raised a mediocre group and their followers' aspirations and performances to a level few have seen in their lifetimes. UTV@@stuctr
I agree…UTV
Villa were knackered against Arsenal having played Legia, Bournemouth and Man City in 7 days. Three tough games, two days off then Arsenal. Fortunately a win or draw on Thursday night in Bosnia and we're free of Conference games until March.
Villa fan here.
I don't think we'll win it... but we could win it.
That's cool.
As Villa fans we are thoroughly enjoying our football and this journey we are on. The fact that we are flirting with being title contenders and its creating buzz and irritation amongst some is enjoyable and funny.
As fans, we are realistic not naive and we are aware that we are undoubtedly a work in progress both as a team and as individual players. Every single game we play is an opportunity to learn, to grow no matter the result and we are in this for the long term.
The point that David was making about Emery being very professional, reserved and keeping all at a slight distance is all true. Except, he also garners a deep loyalty as he is a man of his word, speaks very straight. There is a lot of emotion under that reservation and we in turn respect him and have become extraordinarily fond of him.
He respects fans and how important they are to a club and for that we have huge respect for him.
Polar opposite to Gerrard who made it all about him and distanced himself from the fans and the club as much as he could, cos he just saw us as a stepping stone to the Liverpool job (lol). There is no other manager on Earth I would rather have at our club right now than Don Unai.
Very knowledgeable podcast which is a rarity on Aston Villa! Jacob is fantastic…..and David really knows his stuff and does his research. It’s refreshing and nice to hear educated opinions on teams outside the top so called 6/7
UTV
Mcginn has been through the whole journey. Struggles + Promotion from championship. Key part in survival from premier league in Covid season. And now the rise under Emery. On paper he’s not the best player ever, but you can’t buy the experience he’s had with us. He wears the badge every game. 250 million can’t buy that.
Scored individual screamers at Ibrox and Celtic Park.
Scored the best goal most of us have seen in recent years vs Wednesday.
Scored the winning goal in the Playoff Final.
Scored Villa’s first goal back in the PL.
Scored a screamer vs Chelsea.
Scored four this season already, plus more in Europe.
Scored numerous worldies for Scotland, including a bicycle kick.
Then there’s everything else he does!
He really is Super.
Imagine if the stupid fans got their wish when gerrard was at the helm and he was sold
As a Villa fan, I don't want the media talking about us. Just let us get on with beating everyone and rising up the table.
We (as is everyone) are in the title race until we are out of it. So while we are up there, we are free to dream. Reality is we will likely fall away, but we are enjoying it while we can.
Emery has improved every player 10%, meaning the team are 110% better than under Gerrard. Emery is a footballing genius. He knows everything about each team. The work he puts in to every match is showing and we are so lucky to have him.
I believe we could lose any Villa player and Emery would be able to replace them, but we can not afford to lose Emery.
CONGRATULATIONS VILLA! VAMOS EMI ❤❤
The nicest thing about all this is that ive finally got some content to enjoy where i can listen to people talk about Villa.
What a brilliant insight and pod. Love hearing David speak about villa and really enjoy Jacobs pieces on us. We have come so far from those away days at Burton Albion!! UTV
@20:20 Villa are maintaining it, 2nd most points in 2023 (38 games). Loved this Pod, some really interesting perspective on benefits and pitfalls of Villa's approach.
Great pod keep it up 👍
fantastic coverage!
I recently put an each way bet on Villa a few weeks ago now they were 101/1 to win it, I then added Leverkusen and Girona to it for fun. 500k return but lets see
I hope you win
@@vertron cheers
someone said villa are now 11/1 to win it...that's a huge difference in a few weeks
Whatever happens - were just happy to have some stability, confidence and growth.
As great as were doing, theres still things we can improve and i dont huh we dont have depth besides maybe striker and rb
Lets see in April, villa fans are very realistical about where we are
Before promotion, Villa were close to going under. Dr Tony Xia almost put us out of business. Promotion saved us, Dean Smith kept us up, Emery excels us.
Yes on Basque managers podcast! Would love to listen to this and actually somehow contribute to a podcast on this topic myself 😮
Maybe not quite title contenders.... Yet... But definitely contenders.... This is what you want to see from teams... Growing... Improvements... Not stagnant daily bus ride routine nonsense...
'yet'
😂😂
@@colouredIncognito Yet.
My preseason expectations was to hopefully finish top 8/9 and maybe have a good run in either a domestic cup or the Europa conference league.
Now my expectations are to hopefully finish top 5/6 and still have a good cup run.
We definitely are not title contenders, I'm just enjoying the football and results we are getting, to even be mentioned as title contenders just shows how much progress we have done since emery has come in.
I just hope our fans don't turn on him if we don't meet their deluded expectations
What a brilliant podcast I'm so excited by how Aston Villa are playing we are unbelievable at home and I'm just enjoying the ride. UTV
Up the Villa!!!🤩
Great pod. Hadn't seen the presenter before but very impressive
As a villa fan i can see us winning it if we stay injury free. All these villa fans who are talking about scraping in the top 5 have no ambition. With the football theyre playing at the moment they can beat anyone.
With the injuries at City and newcastle , lack of depth at Liverpool and poor management at arsenal, Chelsea and man utd now is the best time to challenge for the title. Unai is not "building" for next season when all these teams have addressed their problems. He's going for it now !
Unai given all he wants at Villa. His people behind the scenes etc
Well we'll find out come next May but were certainly in the mix
To every one refering to us not having depth... this is our depth 👌
Yep, our 4th choice CB getting MOM against arsenal
Really good and informative video on the Villa. Hopefully you can do another one when we're slapping Real Madrid next season. (Joke before I get caned in the comments!...) Cheers fellas.
We aren't title contenders yet but definitely CL contenders. It's far too early to talk about the title in December when we aren't even half way.
How well would Emery have done with a better squad. Or was this squad already good enough for top 6 when they were 16th.
Can we please have a podcast that is focused on Villa but ends up talking about Arsenal
haha! there's about 10 of them on CZcams already!
I would just say, our away form may be patchy, but we're the only team Bournemouth haven't beaten in their last 5, and two of our away wins were at Chelsea and Spurs. Old Trafford certainly won't be easy, but it holds no fear in my mind.
Aston Villa's defence has been pretty solid, and the team with Leon Bailey and other stars has been rounded, balanced and successfull. But I wonder if Eric Baillie, formally of ManU, now loaned to a club in France, could help put Aston Villa over the top? Eric Baillie is a great player, a winner, a fighter and a star. So I just wonder...
We’re not in a title race, but let’s try get a trophy and make improvements on where we finished last year
Wayyyy too early, title race begins in feb/March
Our midfield cost us 16.5 million pounds! Tielemans and Kamara were free, McGinn 2.5 and Dougie 14. Arsenal can't afford Douglas Luis. He'd be 100 mil and they don't have the money
Lovely to be in the conversation but I'm sure we'll drop off slightly as the season keeps going. If we get into Europe again then I'll be really happy.
Villa are title contenders. No-one can deny that
its the football they play....not boring
They’re not title competitors…they’re difficult competition for the real top competitors. Which, realistically, if results continue like this for a couple more weeks and they possibly even sign a player or two in January….then they are one of them, no distinction needed.
I can tell you now, there is absolutely no way we are getting carried away with all the media hype surrounding Villa at the moment and crucially neither is Emery.
A top 4 finish and a real go at winning the conference league would be unbelievable given where we were under Gerard.
We'll take it one game at a time and see where that takes us. If it is top 4 and a trophy we'll take that and if not we go again next season. UTV
CL would be an absolute dream!! UTV!
4th is there for the taking this season (Don’t count on 5th being ECL with United and Newcastle potentially going out of Europe) We all know City are going to get it together, Arsenal and Liverpool will likely make that the top 3, Spurs and United are so inconsistent, keep that Home form just like United did last season and you’ll make it.
We will win the league. My money was down before the season started.
Anyone who thinks Unai could go to a club where he can spend more money is a fool. Villa have the money anyway. FFP dictates, not the amount of money a club has. We are amongst the wealithiest clubs in the Premiere League anyway. If you step outside the remit of FFP you end up like Everton points deducted or worse. We have 15 wins at home right now. Any team in Premiere League history that has got 18.....have gone on to win the title. Our next fixtures at home are as follows. Sheffield Utd, Burnley and Newcastle. Would you like to bet against us? Ron Saunders 1980. We then went on to win the top flight equivalent of the Premiere League, champions league and the European Super cup beating Barca 3-1. THE END .
No one at Villa will be talking about being "title contenders". It's an infantile, short-termist mindset and a complete waste of energy. Sure, Villa will have targets - the most basic one being to win each and every football match they take part in...and that is the only target that matters. Take each game as it comes and the final table will take care of itself. The six, self-appointed, cartel clubs that you guys at the Athletic have indulged since your inception can have all the pressure that comes with the fool's gold of the "title contender" label.
Villa can rotate in the Conference League because of the standard of opposition. Arsenal and City won't be able to do that much in the knockout stages in the Champions League
City can bring on Nunes/Grealish/Ake etc etc. They have 100s millions of pounds of talent in reserve. Liverpool have 5 striking options for the front 3. It will simply be a case of fatigue as the season draws to a close.
Emery is a 2nd tier specialist. No way he's rotating for the conference league
@@adtastic1533 Ha! 2nd tier specialist? Arguably the third best coach in the PL. Oh and he's rotated every Conference game, especially away from home.
@@adtastic1533 ok Mr know-it-all Emery has literally rotated for every single conference league match 🙄 no idea what this 2nd tier is all about, the stats say otherwise...
Villa literally played their 3rd choice goalie in their latest conference game and finished top of the group lol@@adtastic1533
Do you want to bet against us?
UTMV!
Why not? Emery 4 years ago, is not the Emery now. Leicester did it in 2016.
Amazing we have been on the up for the entire of 2023 and suddenly we beat the top two sides and everyone’s a Villa expert 😂😂
Don’t know why you’re laughing, paus the best pivot in the prem atm UTV🦁🅰️♈️
I'm obviously a villa fan we don't care so you shouldn't either Aston Villa know our place financially we are getting blown out the water ATM but villa do have money and we are gonna play football cause the term world class is a myth I have been blessed in my lifetime to see world class players I saw Zidane and my jaw just hit the flaw he was a football ⚽️ alien 👽 I saw him play at the bernebau football royalty everyone used to press high against him thinking that would stop him I watched him in the high press no other footballer could do this he rolled the ball on his foot back heeled it to his cb ran 20 yards into space they played it to him next geeza tried to take him out of life😂 he played it under his feet they had him by the shirt and he just bodied them got his own pass beat the high press singlehandedly could have ran 30 yards but he was so intelligent he played it wide to Beckham when the ball went forward he just shouldered an opposing player making it look innocent took a yellow just to let them know your playing the best player in the world I'll make you famous son bernebau went wild 🎉
Raw talent nobody beats Maradonna ❤gary Lineker watched diego train at Barcelona he thought about quitting football ⚽️
He could play keepy upies on his thighs punt the ball up in the sky and still control the ball on full bonce gary Lineker watched diego do it 4 times in a row 😮
There's a reason why Argentina calls Maradonna god Ronaldo and Messi don't have that ability on the football
This has been on the cards ever since our owners bought us and dean Smith took us up , majority of the players are still Smiths.
I think you need to get real villa we’re just lucky to be great is not about luck it’s about consistency
A month ago Spurs were contender
yeah it changes as often as my bedsheets
Tbf though It’s only the mainstream media that are saying title contenders the Villa fans aren’t
A month ago Spurs WON the league.
Spurs were heavily overrated after beating a load of bottom half teams and getting lucky results, there is no evidence to suggest spurs can maintain their form. Villa however are 2nd in the 2023 calendar table which proves they can break into the top 4 over the course of a year
I thought his first season at Arsenal was okay
5th place finish and european cup final
Don't forget that Arteta finished 8th twice
Unai was hard done to at Arsenal. He achieved a 55% win rate which was 3rd highest in their history. The fans were shocking in my opinion.
Dendonker, Chambers, Traore will leave so some funds will be generated
4 strange blokes in a room.
I'm old enough to remember a 20+ unbeaten run at Arsenal....so, probably not...
We're already past that. Emery has more wins in his first 50 at Villa than Pep did at City.
You have to admit though that that back line is Emery's and Mings' injury has been a blessing in disguise for Villa. All those silly goals they conceded last year was pretty much down to Mings being Mings.
Ming's was unreal last season. And he would have certainly been a starter this season with his long range passing abilities to boot.
Which ones? Ming’s was outstanding through the back end of last season - we had a spectacular ‘goals against’, record. Ming’s issues are over lows, and the real clangers were Smith/Gerard era anyway. You can usually tell people who only watched Mings in highlights due to the way they think these things happened all the time
@@Nikolay061 not denying that at all. But Villa's win percentage without Mings is at 74% compared to 50% with him in the team. Kinda explains the point I was trying to make.
@@sujayshetty3158 it really doesn’t. A lot of other things have happened during that period - you’re mixing up correlation with causation.
no it doesn't. We're conceding more now than we did when Mings was fit. Can't wait to have him back@@sujayshetty3158
this what annoys me about modern football "analysis". I mean... there isnt analysis. its literally a 40 minute long video apparently to discuss whether the team in 3rd place in december can win the league. Why would i even want to listen to that? the answer is yes, i can move on now
He has not.
😂😂
Nop
Yup
Media hype.
Unai Emery doesnt win big trophies, hes a 2nd tier trophy specialist. And thats why he suits Villa. But dont worry Villa fans, the big bottle job is coming. Just a matter of time
Are you an Arsenal fan by any chance?
@@Tomc_vodslam If he was 2nd tier he's still be at Arsenal.
Do u realise how foolish u have been making urself sound throughout. Catch up to 2023 ur thinking arsenal emery he's a diffrrent animal now and so r Villa 💜💙
@@Tomc_vodslammaybe, maybe not, one thing is that's sure is he small little man who hasn't even come close to managing his own life, nevermind a football club at any level. As an arsenal fan, I'm happy to see Unai and a real club like Villa doing well.
you sound like you need a hug 🫂
No not all!... I'll bet right now that Villa won't finish in the top 4. City had an off day and Villa did nothing vs Arsenal and VAR saved them.
What would you like to bet?
Villa have been excellent for 1 year already ever since unai took over.
Villa are very good bet for top 4. They are stable and doing well.
Spurs won't last long with high energy style, they will lose many games once other teams learn how to neutralize them.
Newcastle fatiqued and injury prone
Man UTD too many crisis.
If you google 2023 table at Transfermarkt website. Villa is 2nd since January just behind man city, ahead of Arsenal and Liverpool. 38 games.
I'll buy you the new Villa shirt for next season if they do. If they don't, you buy me Arsenal's new shirt
If you take the table since early November after unai joined, villa is 4th. Of course unai need time to implement his system so the table since November won't be as good compared to 2023 table in which 2 months has passed since the player follow unai system.
Just clicked on this video to say... no. Thanks.
bitter
@@user-ed7et3pb4o lol! Why? As soon as McGinn gets injured it's over.
Nothing wrong with dreaming right?? If villa have a good 2 months home and away. And there next 6 games should be win including MAN UTD,, id say really dream.. but im happy with emert and the team top hit top 6.. i dont care if they loose when they play the way they do.. its when they lose not trying.... the PREMIERSHIP is a mental league... lets see ay. But UTV in EMERY WE TRUST
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 😂 they won't finish top 6 watch them crumble
