Frozen Soul Glacial Domination, Cannibal Corpse Chaos Horrific, Suffocation Hymns From The Apocrypha, Cattle Decapitation Terrasite and that Dying Fetus album, Make Them Beg for Death \m/ \m/ There are more, but these are my favorites from this year. Such a great year (2023) for Death Metal. Last year was decent (especially with Bloodbath's Survival of the Sickest) but this year just knocked it out of the park. Would love to see new work from groups like Nile and Gojira (rumored for 2024), among others. Dying Fetus's album is just brutal from start to finish...........what you really want from a great Death Metal Album IMO.

If you've overlooked them, then I'd definitely give The Zenith Passage - Datalysium, Gorod - The Orb, and Stortregn - Finnitude a listen. Those definitely make my top ten list for Death Metal of the year. Great list though guys.

Love the channel! Been watching a while now. My favourite death metal of the year is definitely Nightmarer - Deformity Adrift. I absolutely love this record. Suffocation - Hymn From The Apocrypha, Tomb Mold - The Enduring Spirit, Crypta - Shades of Sorrow, and the new Xibalba EP - Aztlán round it out for me. Happy Holidays to you guys!!! 🤘
Great record! We had that one in our mid year list but the subgenre was so stacked this year, it got beat out.
Truly an incredible year for death metal. I really think we’ll look back at 2023 as a landmark year for a long time.

I didn't fiddle around with much DM this year, but Cattle Decap's was one of my most anticipate, and it delivered. I need to give the Fetus album another play, I really love their stuff but have to be in the right mood for DM. Happy Solstice my dudes.

It was on our midyear and unfortunately dethroned from the top 10, but GREAT record.
Killer list. As it has been for the past few years, black metal was my most listened to genre as I connect with it the best. That being said I fully agree with people saying that death metal won this year. Here are my top 10 favorite death metal albums of 2023.

Sulphur Aeon's newest was very good (as are all their albums) but their masterpiece (so far?) is The Scythe Of Cosmic Chaos IMO. That album is 1 of the best releases of the last couple of years.
Other highlights this year: Carnation - Cursed Mortality, Cruciamentum - Obsidian Refractions, Grand Cadaver - Deities of Deathlike Sleep, Asinhell - Impii Hora, Svartkonst - May the Night fall, etc etc... This was a great year for death metal and metal in general actually 🤘

are y'all doing a thrash list? the new Enforced album and Dead Heat ep need more exposure. sick list here, even though I've not cared about death metal in like 3-4 years minus the huge names and the hardcore influenced crowd ala Sanguisugabogg and Frozen Soul
We didn't record a thrash list because other than the two bands you listed there wasn't much we dug. I'm sure there's another way we can get Enforced some more love.

I will say, I haven’t seen Cryptopsy’s As Gomorrah Burns getting much year end love anywhere. As a fellow Canadian, I just want to go on record saying that was one of my favourite albums this year!
That is a great record! Unfortunately, it just got overshadowed by some of the others. The competition in death metal was beyond tight this year.

The first Asinhell album stunning.
If you want a hidden gem of a record from this year then check out Ashen - Ritual of Ash. Really melodic with some crushing grooves and vocals. Definitely needs more attention.

The production on Nothingness' album is really good, it's not like the immense "cavernous' sound is done inexpertly and it sounds better balanced than most death metal bands, imo

Sulphur Aeon is definetely one of my overall highlights this year, although I'm missing a quantum of chaos (a bit of the musical chaos that e.g. many I-Voidhangar bands create).

Man, Kataklysm is such an overrated band. That's the only album from this list that I thought was totally mid while I was listening to it. Well, except from "Supraliminal" by Nothingness, which I somehow, inexplicably missed, even though I'm subscribed to Everlasting Spew Records. A mistake which I'll be fixing in a moment because I freaking love cavernous death metal and can't get enough of it.
What a fucking year, though. I was thinking of making my own best of 2023 list, but then I looked at my playlist and realized that I added over 2000 entries to it, so I was like, yeah, fuck that. I honestly wouldn't even know where to start from.
The label that's been killing it this year is Transcending Obscurity. There's not a single release there that isn't worth a spin. I still don't understand how an underground label is able to release so many great albums, with such consistency, week after week.
