Thanks for responding to my take on Necrophagist/tech death 🤘 That clarinet clip is sick 😂 Will give Archspire another shot. Haven't gotten into them or bands like Obscura, so a list of best modern tech death bands would be really interesting. The best tech stuff I have heard recently is from established bands (Dying Fetus, Nile, Suffocation) although BandCamp brings up a few gems (Dead and Dripping's 2023 album)

This may look obnoxious, but I’ll go 1 by 1:
    1. Sepultura was better with Max, but he is salty, and that final run of Machine Messiah and Quadra is amazing; Quadra is for me top 3 in their discography.
    2. I just saw Megadeth live, and Mustaine sounded great. You can hear his age, but he can still do it.
    3. I don’t like Deathcore, so I can’t be objective at all.
    4. I’ve got a hot take of my own: Morbid Angel should release a final album true to what they’ve been for most of their career and then retire. I love them, but that’s just how I feel.
    5. Tech death is not really my favorite, but it mostly offers a lot of quality music, so I’m good with it.
Hope that wasn’t annoying, nice video guys 🤘🤘

I completely brushed off "deathcore" until I was exposed to material with a symphonic element to it... Like what Lorna Shore does so masterfully well... my lightbulb moment was when i first heard Make Them Suffer's "neverbloom". That's the moment I realized i actually do like DC

I would love to see a tech death vid. I can somewhat ageee I still think there is a lot of great tech death in the 2000s with bands like Defeated Sanity, Dying Fetus, Nile, Lykathea Aflame, Ulcerate, Decapitated. But it did feel like many tech death bands at that time were trying to copy the Cryptopsy pummeling style of tech death. I do appreciate bands like Archspire for taking it to a more fun, melodic, interesting and more dynamic direction of tech death.
Honestly Megadeth is one of my favorite bands of all time. I love Dave’s vocals for nasty aggressive technical thrash metal but with how rough his vocals are getting I almost wish Megadeth would just retire.

    Hi guys,
Yeah, a video about tech death would be great.
I do think that Necrophagist combined technicality, precision and hooks. For instance, the solo in Fermented offal discharge is the paradigm of that. At the same time, you should check out the video Dean Lamb of Archspire made about his process of learning the song Epitaph from Necrophagist. It is in his channel. Even he, who is undeniably one of the cutting edge guitar players of the last twenty years, struggled a little bit to get the rhythm guitar of that song. People tend to confuse speed with sheer level of technicality. In my view, tech death is mostly about bringing layers of complexity to the songs. Of course, things tend to turn into a sort of arms race, but the cornerstone of tech death is, in my opinion, building new puzzles, without losing the sense of a song format whatsoever.
To wrap up my comment, in terms of technicality Spawn of possession were probably the tech death with the so-called "more difficult songs to play". Archspire are the contemporary biggest band in tech death but they're not the only ones with hooks. Obscura are a great example of the combination of technicality and melodic sensibility. In fact, among the biggest names in the genre, they are probably one of the most "melodic" tech death bands out there.
Keep up the good work in the channel

Related to the Dave Mustaine topic, I'd like to see Dani Filth step back as a manager/composer only for COF, just how happened to Angela Gossow with Arch Enemy, because his vocals live have been really inconsistent lately. I actually quite agree with the third take and slightly agree with the fourth.
I love deathcore regardless, but it's honestly way better live and when you actually see the man making these insane noises with his voice right in front of you.
Though I'd say this take applies to most metalcore even more than deathcore, I don't enjoy listening casually to metalcore that much but I love going my country's local metalcore scene, have many friends from there and really enjoy seeing bands live.
And regarding Morbid Angel, Illud Davinum Insanus is honestly ok, but much better than any of the albums they did without Evil D purely because it's Evil D, and Trey is not there alone doing that solo project thing and the vocals are not generic.
I think the lack of Pete Sandoval is what made this album go into this divisive kinda direction

Im with you on a lot of prog metal in particular, though Dream Theater do have some really well written songs, but also a lot of technical wankery. Like both Eras of Sepultura. Theres some killer stuff in the Derrick era.
Deathcore , I like Lorna the best, its the symphonics, blackened vocals , but above all, the melodies. Shadow of Intent is good, they have alot of death metal in there . Not a fan of the huge beakdowns of deathcore, even in the Lorna songs too.

I don't care for Illud Divinum Insanus, but I do defend that album a little more than most fans. I think they deserve props for taking a risk and going in a slightly different direction; even though it didn't pay off. And there are a few bangers on it as well! It's just wildly inconsistent and super corny at times.

Megadeth have needed a live vocalist for a while, and the last 10 years have been especially rough. Dave was already going downhill when he had spinal surgery, and throat cancer did in what little range he had left. Now he yelps out notes he can't hit, and mumbles his way through the rest of the set. It's tough to watch.
Edit: The bit at 13:20 sounds like it was directly lifted from "This Godless Endeavor," lol.
