- Everest Base Camp trek - the flight to Lukla ✈️
👋 I'm Claire and I'm currently hiking to Everest Base Camp!
I'm not a good flier at the best of times, but I'm even more anxious after 2 hours sleep, a very bumpy four hour minibus journey and a three hour wait at the airport, only to be told our plane wasn't taking off due to high winds at Lukla, to be told two minutes later that they could squeeze our flight only in before the winds got too bad 😬
Needless to say I was a bit of an anxious wreck on this plane journey!
HOWEVER, while it looks sketchy, the safety record of Lukla Airport is very good. The pilots do this route 10 times per day and they cancel flights if they're worried about the weather at all. Plus, the small propeller planes (while I don't like them at all) are made to operate on these runways.
Fun fact: the runway is tilted at a 45 degree angle to help with take off and landings!
So, what does flying from Lukla look like? This was our day:
2:30am - wake up
3:00am - leave Kathmandu
7:30am - arrive Ramechhap (where the Lukla flights leave from)
10:30am - go through the airport (lots of people had to fly before us due to planes being cancelled the day before)
11:30am - go to board the plane, be told that we had to disembark and wait
11:31am - told that we could get on the plane and leave!
11:48am - land in Lukla
12:00pm - lunchtime
1:00pm - start hiking! 🥾
We were lucky, planes were cancelled 2 days before AND 2 days after due to the weather 😬

Lukla is… lets say special
That’s a way to face your fear 😅. I am not afraid of flying and that airport scares the crap out of me.
Haha I'm hoping I'll be less scared of other flights after this!
Ah yes Lukla airport
Indeed!
@@ClairesFootstepsi only dream of going there once. Must be incredible! ❤
Luklaaaaaa
yes!
the roof of american embassy in kabul?
I tried to fly in there in my stream..
let's say that did not go well..
Don’t be stressed because there are flying planes like DHC-6 that you flew on and that’s good small plane and in msfs and in real life this plane can stop fast
tbh landing in lukla has to go on my bucket list.
haha my friends enjoyed it too!
thats a twin otter, they can land really fast.
Yes it dealt with the runway really well! I didn't know much about these planes so that's good to know 😀
I think your priorities on what will and wont kill you are a lil skewed
You can be an anxious flier whilst also knowing it won't kill you, plus the Everest BASE CAMP trail isn't particularly dangerous (although I'm anxious about parts of it too)
Hope you had fun adventuring!!! ❤❤❤
I did!
as somebody who likes planes that landing genuinely concerned me. Ryanair got s new competitor 💀
The town of Lukla, Tenzing Hillary Airfield (often referred to as Lukla Airport).
Tara air fr 💀
In what way? Was it hard? No, it looked like a normal landing considering the airport.
That wasn’t hard wtf r u on
Wow! How did it go?
Lukla
Lukla💀💀
Her: I'm so scared of flying!
Also her: Hiking to Mount Everest is easy!
I was hiking base camp and never said it was easy 😂
@@ClairesFootsteps But you made climbing mt everest look like a joke 💀
How did I do that? 😂
@@ClairesFootsteps because you casually mentioned hiking everest but made landing on Lukla a bigger deal
@@thisredbrick2002 again, it's base camp which is very different to Everest itself! But I never ever said it was easy, i just have a huge phobia of flying but could look at the hike more objectively.
Lukla is beautiful
Bem gurion airport: i exist 😂
LUKLA AIRPORT
Dramatic you aren’t gonna die. The pilots are experienced 💀
Ever heard of a phobia?
Are you flying on DHC-6 Twin Otter And Landed at Lukla?
Yes!
As a nepali who likes planes I can confirm its not that bad
It's not that bad usually means it's bad
No you don’t have to! Like you don’t have to leave litter and human waste all over the mountain, like you don’t have to risk the lives of Sherpas for your own pathetic egos.
Everest BASE CAMP, not Everest! 😅 I picked up all my trash + more, the trail brings a lot of tourist money to the area & doesn't risk anyone's life. I do see your points in terms of climbing to the SUMMIT of Everest but PLEASE read the text on the screen before leaving comments like this as you're talking about a completely different thing!
