  • What does it *really* feel like to jump from space? In 2012 Felix Baumgartner took a helium balloon into the stratosphere and skydived back to earth in a specially made space suit. Whilst in freefall he broke the speed of sound and entered a spin which threatened the entire Red Bull Stratos mission... Felix reflects on his achievement and shares what it really felt like to jump from the edge of space.

The jump featured in this video was completed in 2012.
The jump that then broke the record set in 2012 was done in 2014.

Oh dear - it seems you haven't realised that the 'capsule' he has jumped from is suspended underneath a large helium balloon?
He hasn't actually jumped from space as fraudulently claimed in the video.
The reference to 'space' is a an excellent example of media misinformation.

The older gentleman ( now sadly passed) who was advisor on this jump is Joseph Kittinger who held the record for a staggering 53 years. Unbelievably his freefall from 102,000 feet made in 1960 lasted all this time, until 2012. This man should never, ever be forgotten if we are to celebrate these feats. And he did it alone. What a man to have on your team to break the record. Felix is incredible but Joseph was equally so. And such a cool calm dude

what nonsense. From a height of 30 km, he wants to show us the curvature of the earth? Look thousands of km through the atmosphere, where you can only see 30 to 200 km away. What nonsense!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That is a one in a century experience for someone to free fall from space and from that height. You have to be prepared physically, emotionally and spiritually which honestly impresses me with how well Felix handled it. He has no fear.

He didn't jump from space, but from 39 km altitude in the _stratosphere._
The capsule he jumped from was brought up there by a large helium balloon which is visible at 0:18.

According to the most common definition, space starts at 100 km, also known as the _Kármán line._
In reality, the atmosphere just gets thinner and thinner with altitude without any sharp boundary to space. Even the International Space Station at 400 km encounters enough air molecules to gradually to slow it down, explaining why it needs to be re-boosted by its thrusters to a higher orbit several times per year.

Sorry to bust your bobble but no one has lived to tell a story of falling from space, that is because it's impossible to do! No one can come close to achieving such a fleet! Beside, in order to enter space, you have to cross the Carmen Line, which= space. They had it set up like someone was really in space, when in actually he was on earth. Ha ha 😅
