"Any religious organization that makes you choose between them and loved ones is a cult"
Absolute bar. This episode was something special for real
Surprisingly, i was locked in to this episode as an agnostic person who grew up in a church. Amazing guest, and really makes me wanna check out his church. Also, he DL Hugley lil cousin fr😂
As an atheist, I found this interesting. It seems tht even when us as black people see many flaws within the religion of Christianity, many still look for reasons to believe it. Which is very confusing to me
It's called delusion and programming. One of the reasons religion still exists today. But have no worries the world is literally becoming less religious every year.
I was thinking the same thing… sounds like they are still believers in the sky daddy…
Delusion, slavery and cognitive dissonance
Agnostic atheist here. Listening to four Black men with varied perspectives on this topic was a beautiful experience.
Agnostic Atheist here.
Your face is beautiful. That's it. That's the response😂.
At someone who grew up in the church, this conversation was so healing for me. Its so true about self-love not being encouraged. Plus, between the "all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" and the "lean not on your own understanding", it can encourage a very negative view of the self. A lot of religious people I know are suffering from severe anxiety, all because they've essentially been taught not trust themselves. And don't even get me started on the "God views all sins all equally" belief and how badly that can mess people up.....
People actually believe that last quote 🤢😧 I also grew up in a church full of just family and friends, they always expected the little kids to have the same desires as the adults. They tried to use my dying cousin as an example.... That's definitely when I started questioning, I'm glad I was able to understand that her goals right then and there was wayyyy different then ours. "While you guys are sleeping back there, your cousin is reading the bible and asking questions. Be like her." I was very disgusted and VERY angry.
All have sinned or sinning. Which is it. Isn't the blood of Jesus suppose to wash away sins, sin. Shouldn't sin be repulsive to believers. Is that why atheist laugh at Christians
@@AndrewRedall continue to sin. Accepting Jesus’ sacrifice washes away past sins. But it may not wash away guilt. And it doesn’t absolve future sins. That’s where repentence comes in. Sometimes daily. Knowing you aren’t perfect isn’t supposed to being shame, but rather empathy for your fellow man.
@@AndrewRed Blood washing off sins sounds awful pagan to me. I think we should rethink these pagan myths
I share the same sentiment it’s abusive ex text
I really enjoyed this conversation. Glad FD put me on this channel
I'm 42 and an atheist. I was raised a Jehovah's Witness. The congregation my parents had us in , and my dad is still one, they are on the looser end. My family knows I'm an atheist and while my brother and sister are religious they aren't JW's. My dad has not rejected us and contacts us all of the time.
I saw Leah Remini's documentary about it and while I knew this was a practice it was even sadder to see in that context. It's cult like. Down to my dad loving my beard but him not growing one himself for instance.
Also I do see the positive for him. The community does support him as he lives over an hour away and has some physical health issues going on. So that is appreciated.
Great discussion. Even though I'm secular, I still find religion fascinating.
Forgiveness doesn't preclude distance and boundaries. A lot of people have difficulty with this reality due to social/religious programming.
I’m assuming you mean not choosing to forgive
I like this. It’s truly being Christ like instead of Christian
Being christ like isn’t bad
I am not religious at all but I find the views of this pastor very compelling. Much respect
This podcast is legit. My first time seeing you guys was with FD Signifier but this conversation was necessary.
Fave guest to date. Great vid.
same!
The section on revival and questioning “what is it that you’re trying to revive?” And comparing it to MAGA literally brought me to tears at work lol. I was a PK just like Pastor Kristian, and I grew up watching my parents be tokenized in white evangelical communities while also not being afforded equal opportunities, respect, or leadership. I allowed myself to be tokenized in a similar way up until about 2019 when my mother passed away and I realized the church did not treat me with the same protection and care they did my white counterparts. Then add in the rise of borderline blasphemous, unapologetic evangelical conservatism.
I’m so glad that Kristian brought up He Gets Us because I’ve also seen that ad campaign and been so confused. If what these folks are trying to “revive” is a world where 1) we are all subscribing exclusively to the institution of a single religion and 2) lack of representation in church leadership, injustices going unaddressed and normalized in and out of the church, and majority of identities being bullied into submission, silence, and eventual nonexistence … they can keep it. We do NOT need to go back. We need to move forward and can only do so by the church body being held accountable.
This conversation was incredibly validating for me. I’d never really realized the way manipulation and judgement is built into church culture, but thinking back that’s a big part of pain I felt
31:52
This exact passage is what started my personal departure from the Christian faith . As a now Pagan, it's quite refreshing to hear a Christian person acknowledge this.
Really enjoyed this one, coming from a non-religious background.
Great episode; please bring Pastor Kristian back in future!
Really loved this one. Based on what I've learned about Jesus, this is what he was all about.
This discussion has LITERALLY made me continue to strive to understand more about Christianity. Over the years, my religious affiliation has been moving closer to Judaism. I look forward to learning more about the Holy Smokes Movement.
Waving the Red Flag, someone suggested I check out this episode. You have a new follower. Thank you for sharing this interesting, empowering, and important discussion. Many blessings
This Pastor is the first one in 10 years that i actually want to sit and listen to. And for the first time i envisioned a possibility of retuning to the church.
This man used to run these contemporary services at my old church. I loved his services because he always started it off with an apology from the church.
I do not imagine……even for a second…..that I will ever find myself in the throes of religious thought again.
But this is simply the BEST conversation that I’ve heard about faith in years.
Wow another amazing conversation 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 you boys are on a fkn roll!!!
I would go to this man's church fam. I love this conversation. I've felt this way about Christianity since 2007 or 2008.
We all got hang ups when it comes to religion like the fact that black people distrust everything given to us here except for the religion which was given to us along with chains the first things given to us we don't question the correlation between that and the control shown over us like we give America all this diabolical credit but what would be more diabolical than giving people something that makes them think they are free but it's really helping corral them and keep them docile
This dude is starting a groundbreaking movement
y’all really doing the work
One of y’all most important episodes
Gems✨
I describe myself as not quite an atheist and not quite a deist. This was DOPE! ✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾
This was great. Thank you!
Love seeing young Black people employing critical thinking skills.
I love this gentleman! Feel the same ways as Josh if I found a community in church rather than condemnation I would probably still be a part of it.
SUCH A GREAT CONVO
i loved this conversation!! i wish this happened more
Left the church at age 14 but this pastor is very interesting. Still dont believe in God or religion but he definitely makes me want to go to his church since I'm also near Atl.
This is y'all best episode I've seen thus far.
Clean outro fam
I got baited by that thumbnail, but I'm glad I did. Great convo, learned a lot.
Aye I lost it when the guest preacher said "I have every right to beat yo ass"
Fam, when I was in middle school I had a women as a teacher who read the satanic and said the first line gave her chills and the first line she read was,"Do As Thou Wilt".
Holy shit. This guy is on point.
"Pagan Theology" is a book by author Viola.
It details how the early Christian Church did NOT have this pastor as top of hierarchy methodology.
Base level Goku😂👍🏾
25:36 That’s the part that stopped making sense.
I'm very much anti organized religion especially abrahamic ones, but i wonder how this conversation will go. 🙂
still sticking with my Hoodoo though
👍🏿
There's a difference between love, respect, and relationship.
I love my ex, but I don't respect her; RESPECT is conditional, LOVE is not
I love my aunt, but I don't want a relationship with her; RELATIONSHIPS are conditional, LOVE is not.
I am also an atheist Eddie
38:32 When you find yourself to be a terrible person by your own standard and cannot change.
Mercy and forgiveness
As a black atheist....talking to black theists ...is like talking to a stone...zero logic
Why everything based on Greek. Why not African spirituality
African spirituality is dangerous as an african myself
Ethiopia has had Christianity for a long time.
I am confused. We are to show "fear" (deep awe) for The Most High. How can profane words elevate or show awe for The Most High even though the intent is good? What we "feel" is not a part of the equation. We are to think Yah, talk Yah, speak Yah. Does Yah speak profanity?
This was an interesting podcast, seen through the eyes of an atheist.
Love this podcast but there is a lack of undestanding and misrepresentation of orthodox Christianity here. I was still intrigued by the viewpoints put forward though.
