Fun Fact: when Wes Craven was watching all the sequels to prepare for writing New Nightmare he thought this movie was so bad he didn’t watch it all the way through
Can't blame him as it's the worst one of the series. Even makes Nightmare 2 awesome by comparison and I usually ignore that one when doing a marathon of the series.

I always speculated that Freddy got more wacky as time went on because he was growing more powerful and in the dream world , he could do anything he wants. altering the details and the environment any way he wants to. He also learns to enjoy his powers more and more as time goes on. he starts trying to have fun with it, killing in more and more creative ways.

I think that the “ ITS TRAVELING TIME” quote is supposed to be like The Thing’s “ ITS CLOBBERING TIME” if you still care or even look at this comment
He was trapped in Springwood, couldn't go beyond the confines and John Doe was the only prey he had left.
The traveling time line is more that he was using his daughter's mind to smuggle himself over the border. The breaking of which signified that she had broken him free from his captivity.
In other words the killer dog stuck gnawing on a single person, catching and biting off small chunks, and letting them go because they have nothing else to eat.
Then comes the one that can get it free from its makeshift cage, bringing two meals that can help it regain its strength, and it can finally eat that which it had been forced to let survive for so long...
Best of all for him is that she inadvertently takes him to new hunting grounds...

I thought "John Doe" was going to end up being Alice's son from The Dream Child as a teenager when I watched this movie lol
Would of been a nice, explain a little of why he specifically got left for last. And actually link in the last two films to this one. Technically he's name is never said so its possible, add in a single line by Freddie of killing Alice's boy and it fits.
Late response, but John Doe was actually going to be Jacob at first. The original script had Freddy kill Alice, with Jacob going off to avenge her with the help of the ghosts of Kincaid, Taryn, and Joey, who had become the "Dream Police". Jacob would then be killed off two-thirds, leaving his girlfriend to become the protagonist the writers thought no one would see coming. Freddy would have also absorbed Springwood into himself as part of a plot to attack other towns. But director Rachel Talalay hated the script, and Lisa Wilcox refused to come back as Alice again, so the script was heavily rewritten and it was left intentionally vague if John Doe was Jacob or not, since they had no other plans for him.
They still reused some of the major plot points from the original script in the final version though, like John dying partway through (Jacob's girlfriend from the original script was rewritten into Maggie).

I’m not entirely certain, but I think that “It’s traveling time” was a play on words from Marvel’s The Thing’s catchphrase of “Its Clobbering Time”. Don’t know how to feel about that though.
So fun fact. That “Now I’m playing with power” line is used as a line by Scarecrow (also voiced by Robert Englund) in Injustice 2
I honestly think this movie was made for those who were too scared to see the first three films and therefore, the producers replayed all the tropes.

I feel like this movie was an homage to the originals with several references to each of the prior movie. I also feel that the prior sequel did as well. I love how those references can piece together the entire series and how all of the characters have a relation to each other aside from just the premise of Freddy. Every town has an Elm Street and so did mine growing up and there was a house that was old and abandoned or so we thought. There was an old man that lived there but never came out of the house. When relatives finally came, why so long I don't know, the man was deceased or I guess it was his skeletal remains that they found.....

I kept wishing doc was kincaid. It solves a lot of issues for me to imagine he survived 4, studied dreams, looks after a kids shelter and is able to withstands freddys mind wipe. The fact that he rips the gate at the end seemed like super strenght anyway. Overall im just bummed joey and kincaid survived 3 just to off immediately in 4.
If it makes you feel any better, one previous draft for Freddy's Dead involved Freddy getting killed by the Dream Police... which where the souls of the dead Dream Warrior, with Kincaid returning.

I love how stupid this movie is. I'd say this is definitely one of my guilty pleasure movies, where I just love it for being such a self parody of the series without understanding how to be a self parody. I love how much it stumbles over itself and how stupid Freddy's one liners are. The acting is so cheesy, and man.. the power glove line. I love this movie for everything it fails to do right. I also think I love it just because it isn't the same as the last 2 movies. I'm fine with 4, but I just hate part 5 so much. So part 6 was refreshing in my eyes.

I think the "drop" in quality and "looney tooning" is more an aspect that Freddy is a monster of imagination. His form, and what he can do are all powered by the dreams of his victims. He usually asserts his dominance and drags them into his reality, but he does play into their dreams when it suits his perverse humors.
So the "non-sense" actually feels more fitting for the Nightmare on Elm Street himself.
I'm gonna be honest, Freddy has always been cartoonish. Even in the first movie. This franchise in general has always be more humorous than horrific. The acting in the first movie was absolute cringe, it almost felt like watching a parody.

It was hardly ever cringey in my opinion also the dreams were more surreal and elderitch horror fantasy like in execution than like what the later nightmare sequels in the franchise dreams later turned into which was more like an fairytale exaggerated extravaganza experience than before hand.
This is my favorite Freddy movie. Strictly due to nostalgic reasons. My brother and I used to watch this when we younger all the time. Sadly he is no longer with us.

We almost got a more interesting 6th film than this. Peter Jackson was asked to write a script for what would have been the sixth film: His idea would have started out with a weakened Freddy Krueger who no one takes seriously anymore, to the point where teens made a game of deliberately going to the dream world to beat him up. Once Freddy does start gaining power again, the main plot is kicked off by a boy having to enter the dream world to rescue his father.

Ugh everytime I hear about how cool this movie would have been I get upset. It sounded so cool and so much better too. I bet alternate universe me would have enjoyed it.
Such a wonderful movie that would of been, but we got stuck with a steaming pile of super spencer.
