Simagic alpha mini has been on my radar, It's good to hear a review from someone who has tried all the main dd wheels. I think my comment got deleted for including a link, an iracing developer measured the force of the mini it's actually 13nm not 10nm. This is really why it feels so much more detailed than the CSL DD with boost, it's literally almost twice as powerful.

    Tbh the csl dd pro to me felt stronger then the mini. Just like my new dd+ has more then my 15nm alpha. The csl dd pro doesnt have the ffb details my dd+ has. The dd+ reminds me of an asetek had a baby with simucube. There are 0 like 0 drop offs 100% center force at all times except cor when losing grip which is as it should be.
    Hope you get to try the new clubsport dd/dd+ someday soon! It will surrpise you. Fanatec finally made a wheelbase at the modern level for dd. It reminds me of there goated belt driven csw v2.5 meaning top of the class for the category. I get why it stole the sim expo show lol.
    Something to keep in mind hweel rim sizes and thinness add to ffb feelings. So wheel rims matter the f1 sttle or gt style rim you used here was gonna add more ffb. Or the feeling that is.

    • @DouglasThompson
      @DouglasThompson  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Yes indeed, wheel weight as well can deaden ffb some too. Great to hear about the FFB improvements from Fanatec. As I said many times in the past, I'd still be happy with my csl dd if I didn't have the opportunity to try all these other bases.

    My biggest concern with the Mini was the relatively small eco system they currently have. Both of thir round wheels don't even have a funky switch/D pad and that's pretty much a deal breaker for someone who wants to navigate a menu when using VR. There have also been concerns of heat in the wheelbase, but that's just anecdotal.

      @@kuku6031 I'm not too sure I understand your comment. With the Simagic, you can either use their wheels with integrated button boxes (3, round, d, and F1/GT3) or you are relegated to a standard wheel with an NRG style quick release only (no button box).
      As such, if you want a wheel with a button box, you have 3 options, and 2 of those options don't even have a funky switch/d pad. For my use case, mostly VR, a d pad is essential as it's very difficult to keep taking the headset on and off to find my keyboard and mouse to navigate a menu.

      If I were to buy a DD now, I would probably still cough up that extra € to buy SC2 Pro... At the moment still on my CSW 2.5 and for 33 and 35 cm rims (13"-14") I find it a bit weak in some scenarios. Really like the budget option vs Fanatec and if I would be in a market for 10Nm would probably get the Alpha mini. But with 8 I already have, I am/would be looking at SC 2 Sport but in the end, I would most likely just say add those extra 200 and be done with it. No need to upgrade ever again...
      And now that I am "stuck" with Fanatec gear I will probably lose about 400€ on the kit, so I will have to add another 700 to get the gear I would want instead of just 250-400 if I were to buy it in the first place. Was looking at SC2 Pro and BJ Steel mechanical pedals. The wheels I can make my own, I have neough materials and knowledge to create my own wheel button boxes. Hello,
    my Simagic Alpha mini will arrive in some days (hopefully) and I would like to know more about heat problems. I read the thread from 2021 and I was wondering if the base is still getting so hot that you cant touch it (with correct settings) or if over the year there was a software fix ? I wanna run this base for the next 5-8 years and I am wondering if constant overheating couldn't cause damage in the long run ? I also guess that you didnt have any issues with the base even if it's getting hot, which is good to hear, but the base was released 2 years ago (I think ?) so what will happen if we add another 5 years ? Of course there could always go something wrong and break that is not heat related, but I want to hear some opinions on the long term use, if this could be a good purchase or If I should consider something else. In my opinion the heat buildup to the point where you can't even touch the base is not normal. I had a CSL DD before and even after being in use for several hours I was always impressed that it was still cold (100% strenght, proper settings and no clipping). It is only 8NM but from what I have read, people with a mini and proper settings who turned down the strenght are still getting a very hot case. So I think if heat problems still exist, the cooling system is not well designed or the software is still not very good.
    What do you think ?

      You talking about the one in this video or the one from my mod video? The wheels and quick releases I'm featuring in this video are a Simagic gt4 and a the standard qr and wheel from Cammus. You can buy the wheel setup for 200 dollars with the button box included but it will only work (button-wise) with a Cammus connection but it will of course connect correctly by way of the quick release as demonstrated in this video. A cheaper option would be to get the cheapest 10 ball NRG quick release with any 70mm hub wheel rim on your chosen website.

      Unfortunately, the cheap QR option I was talking about is only an option for the Cammus. Cammus is compatible with any 70mm we system but Simagic has chosen a 50mm pattern.
      You can still buy like 70 dollar NRG quick releases if you consider that cheap but I switched to a 25 dollar quick release for my Cammus wheelbase so I could have a ton of quick releases for little investment. Hopefully we get a company in the future who will challenge Fanatec with regards to compatibility options.
