Great review, Dino! Thanks for all the useful information. I am the owner of a two month old RE Classic 350 who test rode the Imperiale yesterday. I would like to add two more differences between these two motorcycles: The Classic 350 has a heel toe shifter, whereas the Benelli has a toe shifter only. The other important difference is, the Benelli won't start if the side stand is down, which I think is a great safety feature. The Classic 350 does not have this feature. Oh, and another thing - the Benelli does not have a kick starter, whereas the RE does.

Having owned RE Thunderbird 350 & RE GT 535.... Took a test ride of Imperiale it is better in most of the aspect than existing RE 350... Potential buyers are already liking the characteristics of Imperiale over RE 350... However benelli have to grow big in terms of sales & service experience in which RE has far better infrastructure.... Strongly believe Imperiale can win hearts over classic 350 only if showroom and service experience is excellent which as per my today's visit is still far lacking.... I hope it doesn't turn out to be the case which happened with Jawa.... Initially lots of hype however over the period the hype disappeared...

India is retrolook country as far as bikes are concerned. For us Indians, bikes gotta look like bikes and not spacecrafts (round headlights, spoke wheels, carries two on board, mudguards et al).
Manufacturers looking for numbers long time will have to go the retro route, sooner the better.
I love the Imperiale, and I would also like to see the Intruder 250, Yamaha Yxr series, and the Honda Rebel range too before making my purchase decision.

Majority Indians prefer a retro bike with lower seat height and less bulky.
RE never designed any bike like that except a bulky thunderbird which is a complete failure.
RE actually don't care about indian customers. Average Indian height is 167 cm and they never designed a bike for average Indian. They just want money from indian market.
They design bikes targeting European customers. Indians buy RE because they don't have a decent choice in Retro segment.
Imperiale 400 is much better than RE 350 and thunderbird.
I hope Benelli add more service centres.

1.Being relatively new we don’t know about the service of Beneli.
2.Relatively costly spare parts if at all readily available.
3.Riding position of RE is way better than Beneli.

Service centre availability for benelli is not everywhere... On the other hand, RE has service centres in all around India... ...

Thanks a lot for putting your time and efforts to create a great comparison. I was curious to know What's your verdict on city traffic maneuverability? I noticed you have already mentioned that both of them got hard clutches which would make daily city commute a drag.
I am an average tourer and when I calculated my long drives, they came out only 25% of my overall odo, so keeping dreams aside I would say a comfortable city commute is a priority for me. However, that doesn't mean I would want to go for a pulsar. Also, I own an avenger which is okay to navigate around the city but it's time to move on.
I test drove jawa and found the handle bar too heavy to navigate around easily, and the foot peg positioning isn't optimum either.
Thanks in advance for any comments you would want to leave here.

Foot pegs are perfect in Benelli, but i felt Benelli handle bar heavier than jawa...you test drive Benelli also....if you can extend your budget ...you can buy interceptor...nothing matches it in that price segment

@@gokulgoku662 thanks for the feedback. Interceptor is out of budget, but I will test drive benneli once.
