  • Hi everyone! It's Justin here! Today I wanted to tell you a little bit about Dracaena sanderiana or the Lucky Bamboo! It is a very common plant to see being sold everywhere from grocery stores to greenhouses and they can be incredibly easy for those who aren't well versed in planting and gardening. But what does your bamboo mean? How many stalks does it have? What color is the ribbon? I will tell you everything you need to know! Always plant prudently!

    Interesting. Good to know. I have 3 of them and they are in water. I was just told to have them in that. I will put in dirt. I really love them and they have really gotten larger leaves since I have had it. Its in a window with afternoon sun but it seems to be fine. Thanks for all the information.

    Glass is considered metal? I like the idea of faked red flowers. Is it o.k. to hang Chinese Feng shui coin with red string on a lucky bamboo brach to represent metal and fire? I put my lucky bamboo in a glass container which is not as good as a ceramic container. Can I use tap water that sits for at least 24 hours? Is indoor fertilizer o.k. or they need a special lucky bamboo one? Thanks

    Can I grow these indoors in a good-sized decorative coffee mug? Im looking for a pet friendly, easy to care for plant to go in a mug someone has already picked out. How high up on the plant, should my dirt be, and would that allow enough root space?

    I wonder if I can use red cardinals to represent fire and put them on lucky bamboos.

    My lucky bamboo is in water with rocks, but as you noted, the water is pretty overrun with algae. I'm afraid to change the water often as it will break the roots. Since it's so robust, is it ok if the roots break during that cleaning process?

    • @TheGreenAlchemist
      @TheGreenAlchemist  Před 4 lety +4

      Yup sure is. Actually you should be pruning below the soil (or in this case the waterline) just about as much as you do above the soil. You can remove up to two thirds of a plants roots in one sitting without harming your plant.

    I just got a lucky bamboo plant as a gift. It has wire in the middle of the plant to shape it, it came this way. Should i remove the wire ring or leave it???

    • @TheGreenAlchemist
      @TheGreenAlchemist  Před 4 lety +1

      As long as it is not cutting into the plant you should be fine. If it does start to cut into it I would remove them.

    I. Just bought 4 more and I talked to the plant store owner and asked both of them what kind of water they use for all there plants and guess what ,they said plain old tap water ,they have had their plant store for 25 years and have all kinds of beautiful healthy plants and the bamboo is sitting in a vase of tap water and they are very healthy big and small lucky bamboo in the store! I asked them about the dirt and rocks to,and they said it’s for decoration purposes only!
    Who would you believe a expert who grows bamboo all the time or a man who is trying to get you to spend more money!a I had 4 stalks for a long time , I have 8 now! 2 poneytail tail palms, 2 money trees and purple clovers,and Bella palms and all watered with tap water and misted with tap water all healthy and very green! Even my purple clovers are healthy! Oh and I also have a healthy yellow philodendron in just plain tap water!

      @TheGreenAlchemist  Před 2 lety

      Wow, that's amazing, growing plants, as healthy as you claim with the variety you claim is truly a feat! Or is it? Let's not forget that some parts of the world or even in your country and even in your state have different water quality. I happen to live in an area that has very tasty, clean, and great water to drink if you are a human. If you are a finicky tropical plant that is evolutionary used to drinking different, say softer water my tap may cut it for a little bit but eventually, it will start to cause discoloration, browning tips, and problems with the roots. It may not kill the plant but it's certainly far enough away from doing the plants any favors. All I do is suggest alternate ways for people like me who have unusually harder limestone-rich water, or just water that doesn't make sensitive plants live their best plant life. Check out some of my other videos too, I always tell people that I use distilled or reverse osmosis water for my plants that need it and everyone else drinks from the tap. You are more than welcome to grow anyway you'd like, but in what way does purchasing water benefit me?

      @@TheGreenAlchemist I don’t claim ,if there was pictures allowed I would let you see them for yourself,I live in sfca and have a eastern facing window to! 🙂 Thing is I research where the plants originally grow in the wild, then I concider what the conditions are in my room and get it as close to there origin as possible 🙂 I am also good with animals ! 😋

    If you can't get your lucky bamboo grow over two feet, you're doing something wrong. My tallest at the moment is three maybe four feet. That's only cuz I cut them back so hard for the move last year. They were probably somewhere between 7 and 9 ft long and I didn't want to deal with a bunch of sticks that long.

      OK I have started the upload onto my CZcams channel. GreatI don't remember exactly what I titled it. But if you look up growing your Lucky bamboo to more then 4 feet, I'm sure you will find it. Now that it's uploading. I don't mind saying it's all about getting Oxygen into the water. But if I'm coming back to CZcams I may as well do a whole series on it.

    It doesn't need anything but water...literally. No fertilizer or anything. It takes care of itself. Just leave it alone It doesn't do well with fertilizers.
