    Hi this is my 1st Lucky Bamboo plant given to me, wish I would have taken a pic when I first got it. Don't have a green thumb. Since then, I can honestly say I Luv Luv Luv my lucky bamboo plant, I use Room temperature spring water to water my plant, I too drink it. I also make sure I tell my Lucky Bamboo plant name Weber I Love U. Happy to say Weber is sprouting very well. Have a Ikea light over it. I talk to my plant too. I was using the water from the sink sprinkler to wash the leaves, found out thats a NO NO I'll use spring water to sprinkle over the leaves.
    Thanks for your video.

    I just purchased my first lucky bamboo. Thanks so much for this video! I'm hoping it will thrive. I was never born with a green thumb, but I read that this was a good plant for beginners, and also non toxic to house cats!
    If the roots are a mixture of white, orange, and brown, and the stalk (from bottom to top) is white, light green, to a rich green... is it healthy? Or should I do more to help it thrive? I purchased it from Walmart so I'm concerned it's trying to die already because the bottom is so white and the roots are mostly brown and orange. The top is also extremely dry. Should I cover the top of the stalk with candle wax??

    • @chloemiller2863
      @chloemiller2863 Před 6 lety

      TheElleification The stalk should be a consistent dark green, without blemishes or bruises.

    @240SSONLY Před 6 lety

    So i have a question for you lucky bamboo experts...
    I started watching the video because I had a lucky bamboo arrangement given to me with four stocks one being short and twisted and three other tall ones, growing in a gravel medium and a small square pot 4 inches wide about 5 inches in height. I learned quickly that my water was harsh and heavy when "leaving the reservoir soaked" in some water was detrimental for the plants. Essentially the shorty twisted guy molded and I had to pull it from the batch.
    Bad luck stock perhaps? I think so... Since then, I don't leave any water and purposely drain the entire tiny pot after soaking the three remaining stocks for a about 2 minutes, like a rainfall over the sink and leave them soaking for maybe 10 minutes tops. I then drain completely and only water once a week or so. and the plants have responded to the oxygen rich style medium WAY better than soaking with water... sure I'll switch to distilled water for the sake of it, but they do like the aired medium in the gravel pot without any water. I have recently even introduced the 10 drops of some green fertilizer during this 10 minute soak period and of course they are thriving even more.
    So my question is, has anyone found success in draining the plants and letting minor to no moisture, in the gravel medium pot which you grow your lucky bamboo in?
    And how long can I grow the plants in a tight and small reservoir like that, I don't mind root bounding them unless you suggest to absolutely avoid it and let the bamboo grow tall and freely?
    Thanks

      Like Nell said its actually a draceana and you can buy these "lucky bamboo" even in grocery stores. Lowes Walmart places like that will probably be cheaper than nurseries, nd I guess it all depends what you want as a pattern or curls or straight stalks etc. Mine are just three tall stalks with the sprouts on top, I got mine at a local grocery store in the fall. Like to me I found the fancier ones too expensive for me but had wanted to try it. I'm actually wanting to try potting it in soil since it is a draceana.

    Wonderful video and I needed to see this! Does the glass container have to be clear like yours? Mine came in small round cedar chips and got tight so I changed it to a larger plastic sleeve and added some stringy cedar medium and now the water smells like sulphuric at times (yuk!) and I want to take all the medium around it and simplify it by putting it in water like yours. So, help, please! 😅 I will begin to use distilled water from now on. The tips are now yellow although it’s still mostly green. I want to preserve this as it was a gift from the family of my late meditation teacher who passed away. Thank you. Excellent video. I can’t post a photo here.

      Jennie Kim it soaks it up a bit faster! As long as the rocks arent covered in chemicals or near chlorine they should be fine but if you want it to be less tedious you can change it to pebbles ! Without pebbles I reccomend 4-7 days change the water. With pebbles 10-12 days :) dont use tap water btw because chlorine kills it :)

      Mells, I hope I can help you and then Nell can let you know if I am correct or not. This is afterall a Draceana plant. If you take a Draceana stalk and plant it in soil or put it in water it will form roots. Some of the foliage will dry up and wither but it should still survive. So with that being said I can't see why you can't do it to this one. The part with the roots like the bottom will still live it should form sprouts of its own if you leave it in water. The top part just put back in water and it should grow roots. I don't know though how much of the foliage will wither or die, but should regrow. I have three myself that I plan on potting in soil or chopping and trying to make more. A trial and error for me in spring. Good luck with whatever you choose to do

      Hi Aman - I've never germinated LB by seed. I grow my LB in water but you'd want to use a good quality potting soil suited for houseplants. Nell

    Um did you said 4 stalk of bamboo is unlucky? Because my brother has 4 stalk of bamboo, plz answer

    • @stephenlee8098
      @stephenlee8098 Před 7 lety +5

      It's an extremely unlucky number. In Cantonese the word number 4 sounds similar to the word death so I recommend your brother to get more or get less bamboo.

      @cintiqlover Před 5 lety +1

      Also in Japanese the word for death is also the same word for 4 (that's why that have two words for 4)

    Should I use bottled water or tap water? I was told that bottled water is better than tap water especially when watering your houseplants. Is this true?

    I've had my lucky bamboo plant over 3years and the leaves are green and still growing but the stalks are turning yellow and rottening. So I've been cutting the green leaves with some stem are propagating them you can say. Do you know why this might be happening? Thanks

    • @JoyUsGarden
      @JoyUsGarden  Před 7 lety +1

      Hi - Here are the causes for yellowing stalks that I know of: hard tap water, too much sun, over fertilizing, & letting your Lucky Bamboo dry out. Hope that helps, Nell
