I just bought a lucky bamboo, very helpful thanks!
Hi this is my 1st Lucky Bamboo plant given to me, wish I would have taken a pic when I first got it. Don't have a green thumb. Since then, I can honestly say I Luv Luv Luv my lucky bamboo plant, I use Room temperature spring water to water my plant, I too drink it. I also make sure I tell my Lucky Bamboo plant name Weber I Love U. Happy to say Weber is sprouting very well. Have a Ikea light over it. I talk to my plant too. I was using the water from the sink sprinkler to wash the leaves, found out thats a NO NO I'll use spring water to sprinkle over the leaves.
Thanks for your video.
Thanks Mildred. I;m a newbie too and not much of green thumb. so thanks for your tips
I watched your video on the care of “ Lucky” bamboo, Thank you for sharing the information as I wasn’t sure about the plants needs for survival.I knew you would answer my questions! Thank you and merry Christmas 🎄 and a very happy New year. 🎆🎊🎈

This is the first video of yours and I already love you.
I love the bamboo I have so many in my house and there all indoors I keep them full of water and I see them glowing and growing yes they so piece full and since it don't need dirt I can't cruel that up. Everyone knows I give my left over water to my bamboo so ppl now just do the same.

Thank you this was Super helpful!
My daughter lives in Tucson! I had a feeling you were there with just the light on your patio. I'm in the UK and she's obviously from here too, but absolutely loves it in Tucson. I have a Lucky Bamboo, well, I had 2 but the other one just rotted away. We have hard water so that could well be the reason, so I'll go and put this one in some filtered now. Thank you for your help :D

Wow 2017. The hapoiest year 😊 well, for me.. We keep our bamboo on our dining table, near the window facing north, and another window from the kitchen facing east, so it creates a cross breeze

You're most welcome Suzie! Hugs back to you!!! Nell
Very helpful! 👍🏻
Lovely presentation, lovely hostess!
thankyou for this
Glad u mentioned hard water because I have it. Will get distilled water.
I was surprised when I had heard it wasn't really a bamboo plant awhile back. I've had a few that just basically died for no reason and then some others that have lived for years...
Hi - Yes, they are a dracaena & that's why they do so well indoors. Mine went through a rough patch but have bounced back beautifully. Nell
Thanks so much, very insightful. I always thought it was bamboo, how marketing works :) thanks again
Kool tyvm very helpful
I believe you answered my question, I have the tipping on the ends of the leaves and I have a paste/ film on top of the water paste, after listening to your details share portion I believe getting distilled water will resolve both issues.
Thank you

on top sorry I babble
and I like emojis 🤗😊
Hi Nell! I love your videos! Do these bamboos have fewer issues with pests when planted in water? Thank you.
This is definitely the best video I've seen! I just bought one yesterday but mine is really small about 2in tall and its in a ceramic pot so I'm unsure if I should change it or leave it since its pretty small?
Thank you Jannet! Because it's so small, I'd leave it for at least a few months & then up the pot size a bit. Nell
I hear the hummingbirds 😁🎋
Oh yes. And the quail & doves are very noisy these days! Nell
Katelyn Jones marionknitsk
I will start using distilled water as well! Is it ok to cut off the brown tips?
Very helpful, and such a charming host! I’ve got dwarf mondo grass and one of these lucky bamboo in my desktop aquaponic tank, cleaning the water for a minnow and a few baby goldfish. :) One question, should I concentrate my light to just the top leaves?
I'm happy for your help and support you I just changed my water. I don't used tap anymore 🤗 Thank you. An you helped me alot. Because I am a owner of the plant. Ok it Owens me!!!!
Number 4 (四) is considered as a bad luck only because it's close to the kanji for death (死), so it's just a superstition... I love bamboo, thanks for the video :)
Good to know.
WHAT IF I ONLY HAVE 1?
I bought them with vases and they fill the vases with small stones, should I remove the stones and put only water?
Luv ur vids
hello have a good day i should want toknow wich can use the fertilizer for the luky bamboo.Thank you for sharing
I just purchased my first lucky bamboo. Thanks so much for this video! I'm hoping it will thrive. I was never born with a green thumb, but I read that this was a good plant for beginners, and also non toxic to house cats!
If the roots are a mixture of white, orange, and brown, and the stalk (from bottom to top) is white, light green, to a rich green... is it healthy? Or should I do more to help it thrive? I purchased it from Walmart so I'm concerned it's trying to die already because the bottom is so white and the roots are mostly brown and orange. The top is also extremely dry. Should I cover the top of the stalk with candle wax??
TheElleification The stalk should be a consistent dark green, without blemishes or bruises.
TheElleification Also the tops are fine to be dry, mine are naturally ☺️
So i have a question for you lucky bamboo experts...
I started watching the video because I had a lucky bamboo arrangement given to me with four stocks one being short and twisted and three other tall ones, growing in a gravel medium and a small square pot 4 inches wide about 5 inches in height. I learned quickly that my water was harsh and heavy when "leaving the reservoir soaked" in some water was detrimental for the plants. Essentially the shorty twisted guy molded and I had to pull it from the batch.
Bad luck stock perhaps? I think so... Since then, I don't leave any water and purposely drain the entire tiny pot after soaking the three remaining stocks for a about 2 minutes, like a rainfall over the sink and leave them soaking for maybe 10 minutes tops. I then drain completely and only water once a week or so. and the plants have responded to the oxygen rich style medium WAY better than soaking with water... sure I'll switch to distilled water for the sake of it, but they do like the aired medium in the gravel pot without any water. I have recently even introduced the 10 drops of some green fertilizer during this 10 minute soak period and of course they are thriving even more.
So my question is, has anyone found success in draining the plants and letting minor to no moisture, in the gravel medium pot which you grow your lucky bamboo in?
And how long can I grow the plants in a tight and small reservoir like that, I don't mind root bounding them unless you suggest to absolutely avoid it and let the bamboo grow tall and freely?
Thanks
My father grow a lots of this plants in soil when we live in Thailand is doing fine in hot sun and it grow very tall.
Hey gal I was wondering if I could use bottled water? Or should I do the overnight tap water trick
I love the vase you have yours in. The soil pot is gorgeous. I've never seen that before. I've never owned this plant before. I've seen in the comments section people saying that it can be purchased at Lowes. Is that a good place to purchase or do you recommend somewhere else? Do you ever sell cuttings? Thank you in advance. Very interesting.
Like Nell said its actually a draceana and you can buy these "lucky bamboo" even in grocery stores. Lowes Walmart places like that will probably be cheaper than nurseries, nd I guess it all depends what you want as a pattern or curls or straight stalks etc. Mine are just three tall stalks with the sprouts on top, I got mine at a local grocery store in the fall. Like to me I found the fancier ones too expensive for me but had wanted to try it. I'm actually wanting to try potting it in soil since it is a draceana.
The curled bamboo are nice do you have a good source to buy?
would it be a good idea to put a little bit of my aquarium water in addition to the water? on my plant it says to put in filter dechlorinated water does that sounds right?
Wonderful video and I needed to see this! Does the glass container have to be clear like yours? Mine came in small round cedar chips and got tight so I changed it to a larger plastic sleeve and added some stringy cedar medium and now the water smells like sulphuric at times (yuk!) and I want to take all the medium around it and simplify it by putting it in water like yours. So, help, please! 😅 I will begin to use distilled water from now on. The tips are now yellow although it’s still mostly green. I want to preserve this as it was a gift from the family of my late meditation teacher who passed away. Thank you. Excellent video. I can’t post a photo here.
Sinding full support madam stay safe goodbless
hi good day how u get d bamboo to curl i have try no help tku
I have 2 stalks. They will not stand up in a shallow bowl like hers. Thank you for the information. Have a good night.
In Jesus name
God bless
Are they bundled together just for decorative purposes? I’m just learning about bamboos. Thx
sue Downey there was prolly fewer than what she has there, but if there was 3 and they grew taller, you would cut them and tie them next to each other
Can you please tell me where you got that white planter for lucky bamboo
Any tips for pruning (I hope that's the right terminology) my bamboo is growing quite tall so I want to cut it and make it two . I hope that makes sense still learning
You should watch videos on how to propagate bamboo.
Hello can the bamboo stay inside the house if he's hot. Got a little bit of sun in the morning but in the mobile home is hot is not problem or is a problem?
Is it best to keep these in transparent containers for light or are porcelain/pottery vases ok?
My dad just got me one today so that why I’m looking for how to take care of lucky bamboos
do you use anything like a frog/kenzan to prop the bamboo up in the saucer? or do you just let it stand flat on its base as is?
Hi Jack - It stands in the dish as is - no frog, rocks or pebbles. Nell
I just leave mine on the pateo year around since there isn't direct sunlight other than that all ive done was give it a bigger vase
ma'am please tell me how to make the spiral or bending technique in lucky bamboo.
Parvathy Sreedevi
well if they don't naturally grow like that then someones gotta do it :P maybe use some kind of gardening wire to shape it while its young. I don't know.
It takes a long time to do but they grow toward light so it's out into a box that only allows light to come from one direction and after a certain amount of time it's rotated so as it grows toward the light it spirals
I have heard that when the lucky bamboo is young it is bendable so, they roll it around of something and when it grows and hardens it will stay like that. Would recommend instruction because I have never attempted this I only heard about this :p
If you can get to an Ikea establishment they sell spiral type its cheap as chips as well. 👋😃
The tall clear glass vase that you have your Lucky Bamboo growing in very pretty. Where did you get it?
Great video Nell .. 💜
That's 1 plant I don't have, I see it alot when I'm out plant shopping.
I think its time for a Bamboo plant or two ...
Thanks for all the great info on them ...
Love your Channel .. ☺
🤩🤩🤩💖💖
lucky bamboo in the water must have stones? If so, what should it be?
What do you if you have a yellow stalk
I use to have my lucky bamboo plant in pebbles but my boyfriends father changed it to volcanic rock? How would I change the water? Should I change it back to pebbles? Because I noticed the water goes away quite faster now, and I have to water it a lot more frequently than before when I had pebbles. If I could get an answer that would be awesome thank you!xoxo
Jennie Kim it soaks it up a bit faster! As long as the rocks arent covered in chemicals or near chlorine they should be fine but if you want it to be less tedious you can change it to pebbles ! Without pebbles I reccomend 4-7 days change the water. With pebbles 10-12 days :) dont use tap water btw because chlorine kills it :)
Helo two weeks ago I bought a lucky bamboo because it’s too tall I cut it into half and submerged it in a quarter of the container water now it’s the stems turned yellowish and the tip of the half of it that doesn’t have roots is becoming soft so I cut it again can you please help me solve this problem thank you👍👍👍👍👍
this is exactly how i grow my baby (but, i do change the water as often as 3-4 days)
The growth on my bamboo has pretty much stopped. Any idea why? It was brought from tn to Arizona back in February and since then it just hasn’t grown. It isn’t dying, just not thriving. Any suggestions?
Elaine Dooms... different environment. Give it humidity in AZ. Same thing here except it was KY vs AZ.
Would you recommend to keep lucky bamboo in a bedroom? I have heard it's bad to keep certain plants in while you sleep. (my first plant don't know so much about it)
Sans Cena I do, it's fine. Actually it's really healthy. When I got it, it was a light yellowish green and later that day it became a nice dark green (mainly the tops)
Chloe Miller cool, yup i have had a lucky bamboo for about a month now, growing nice and green :)
I hope you can help me.
Can I trim my Lucky bamboo from the bottom? Its just too tall for what I want it for but I don't want to lose the twist. Please help!
Mells, I hope I can help you and then Nell can let you know if I am correct or not. This is afterall a Draceana plant. If you take a Draceana stalk and plant it in soil or put it in water it will form roots. Some of the foliage will dry up and wither but it should still survive. So with that being said I can't see why you can't do it to this one. The part with the roots like the bottom will still live it should form sprouts of its own if you leave it in water. The top part just put back in water and it should grow roots. I don't know though how much of the foliage will wither or die, but should regrow. I have three myself that I plan on potting in soil or chopping and trying to make more. A trial and error for me in spring. Good luck with whatever you choose to do
How do you prevent mosquitos from growing in the water plants?
I HAVE THE WHITE GROWING IN WATER AND OUTSIDE IN THE SOIL.
Can I fully submerged lucky bamboo in a fish tank
That’s what I’d love to know
You can't fully sumurge the plant in water because it needs to breathe, as said in the video at 9:00 😊
Should you have a drain hole ore not can you please answer this ?
Hi Dawn- If you're growing them in soil, having a drain hole or holes is best. Nell
How to make dancing bamboo or how to make it spiral
Can you use pebbles/rocks for bamboo to grow in? my came in pebbles/rocks
Yes
Oh, thanks!
Pruning.
mam please tell how to germinate the lucky bamboo seed and which type of soil for lucky bamboo best
Hi Aman - I've never germinated LB by seed. I grow my LB in water but you'd want to use a good quality potting soil suited for houseplants. Nell
How many inches is your white bowl planter?
Um did you said 4 stalk of bamboo is unlucky? Because my brother has 4 stalk of bamboo, plz answer
It's an extremely unlucky number. In Cantonese the word number 4 sounds similar to the word death so I recommend your brother to get more or get less bamboo.
Also in Japanese the word for death is also the same word for 4 (that's why that have two words for 4)
I Asian culture it's considered very unlucky sense lucky bamboo despite not actually being bamboo is associated with Asian luck it's considered bad luck to have 4 stalks of bamboo
Should I use bottled water or tap water? I was told that bottled water is better than tap water especially when watering your houseplants. Is this true?
liziking306 Planet my lucky bamboo in dirt and it is doing well so far have you ever tried to let one of yours in soil
What not feeling The Barbro plants
I have 5 of em big fella . Will they bring LUCK upon me. . . .
can i put them in little stones filled with water?
Memelord yes
I've had my lucky bamboo plant over 3years and the leaves are green and still growing but the stalks are turning yellow and rottening. So I've been cutting the green leaves with some stem are propagating them you can say. Do you know why this might be happening? Thanks
Fattie I use filtered or bottled water for all my plants, never tap.
Hi - Here are the causes for yellowing stalks that I know of: hard tap water, too much sun, over fertilizing, & letting your Lucky Bamboo dry out. Hope that helps, Nell
Good.
JoyUsGarden There must be another reason because none of those things apply to my plant, great tips! Thanks
mardel3 i find that if u put it in too shade places and not change water, clean its leaves
I love u
If it's not bamboo and it cleans my indoor air, I'm good.
I have one.......
Too much talking. Lovely garden
