  • Peace lilies are one of the most popular house plants out there, and for good reason too. Not only are their contrasting foliage & flowers gorgeous but the plant can also clean the air in your room, with larger plants cleaning more. NASA has the study to prove just how well they do! Be sure to watch the entire video to learn how to transplant your peace lily and how to keep it thriving! As always, plant prudently!

    Trim the roots with caution - I made the mistake of trimming way too much off and half of my plant died. I would say don’t cut off more than 20-30% of the roots to be safe.

      Oh wow! That first one seems like it was so long ago. Which of course it was cause my father passed two years ago and that's when I got the plant. I made the video several months later. That plant is very important to me. I'm glad you enjoyed the vids and I hope they help you out. If you have any questions while your doing it or once you've finished hit me up and I'll tell you what I know. It may be a little easier to get ahold of me on insta. ytgreenalchemist. How can I grow a lemon tree like that

  • @elizabethjbanet330
    @elizabethjbanet330 Před 4 lety

    I'm in Bardstown, KY. How about filtered water, from a whole house water filter? My plant is from my brother's funeral, Sept. 2014. Still in the same pot. It is full. Should I just put it in a bigger pot or divide it into 2 pots? What about "pups" around the outside? Leave them or put them in another pot?

    • @TheGreenAlchemist
      @TheGreenAlchemist  Před 4 lety +1

      So I find that with a peace lily their leaves are some of the most sensitive out there. The only thing I've found to get rid of all the brown tips and the yellowing leaves is to used distilled water. Water filters tend to leave behind sediments and elements like chlorine and flouride that will mess the leaves up. Also as you may know Kentucky has very limestone rich hard water which will hurt the leaves. Most water softeners use salts to soften the water. The only water filter out there that gives you as clean of water as distilling does would be Zerowater. It removes everything, but it is expensive. Now peace lilies like to be somewhat pot bound, but being in the same pot for 6 years may be a little too long. If it's made it this long and looks ok, I'd wait until the spring to repot. Repotting this close to fall could be a problem unless you really know what you are doing. Splitting is up to you too. People really only do it either because the plant is getting out of hand, or they want to keep it in the same pot, or they want to give one to a friend. Again I would only split a healthy plant, and in the spring. Good luck!

Theres very little information to be found on them here on youtube, and I've been struggling with the tops of mine wilting since I bought it. Can I use a grow light for this plant? I currently have a table that all my plants sits on. They're all situated in 2 rows with the grow light in between the 2 rows sitting on the table facing upward. I aso have the peace lily sitting on a base of small rocks with some water for humidity. Since the peace lily does not like direct light or being near a window or a/c drafts, will it be okay with the grow light?

    • @TheGreenAlchemist
      @TheGreenAlchemist  Před 3 lety

      You sure can. I would use LED or fluorescent because some of the others are too hot or too strong. Though with fluorescent you won't have much head space to water and observe. Check out the full spectrum LED grow lights I use. I put a link to them in the description of every video. Though that's only if you wanted to check out some other ones they have. What do you use for grow light? The LEDs aren't as intense to run or as expensive to purchase nowadays like some other ones used to be. They've had some great advancements with them over the past decade. I've kept mine under a grow light for about two years + and he loved it. Also depending on how large your plant is it may not be enough to use a pebble tray underneath it for humidity. I have to use a humidifier with mine.

    • @TheGreenAlchemist
      @TheGreenAlchemist  Před 4 lety +1

      It helps with the plants potassium requirements. Although I find cutting the peel up into one inch slices helps it to mix it into the dirt better. But don't do too much. They aren't heavy feeders.

  • @notbybreadaloneinternation898

    Hey I got a peace lily from my favorite aunt that passed away, when I had it in the house it kept drooping down, it's been outside on the porch for 3 months now and it's thriving and huge, I'm about to have to replant it. What will I do this winter when I have to bring it in? how do I help it not die?

    • @TheGreenAlchemist
      @TheGreenAlchemist  Před 2 lety

      Yes, if you live in an area that gets cold you definitely should bring him in. These are tropical plants if I've ever seen one and will NOT survive a frost! That's awesome that yours is getting big, so be careful when you bring it in and get someone to help you lift it if necessary. I can't tell you how many times I've almost thrown my back out doing a ton of heavy lifting. Now once he's indoors it's just business as normal, well mostly. Sit him by a window that gets moderate light, I have mine in an east exposure, and im in the northern hemisphere. You should cut back the watering by about half as they will go slightly dormant. Typically in their native home range, they don't but in cooler areas, they won't get as much sunlight during the cooler months so they don't need as much water to beep them happy. Don't forget peace lilies aren't heavy feeders so I don't fertilize mine during this time either.

  • @itscooltobeyou
    @itscooltobeyou Před 3 lety

    All that I bought was something called "promix, premium potting mix" to repot my peace lilly. Is this good enough? Or do I need to add several different types of soil?

    • @TheGreenAlchemist
      @TheGreenAlchemist  Před 3 lety

      Did you get it from Walmart? I've never used that but I see it all the time. At least here in Kentucky I see that people do buy it so it must be decent. You should try a little study with it and see how it does. Keep me posted, I'm always on the look out to see what works and what doesn't. Check the bag and see what they put in there. Most will tell you what all is in there and how much. I know most people think heavier bags generally mean more nutrients. This isn't always the case. If the bag is heavy typically it's because of one or two reasons. Most places will soak the medium which isn't good because this will cause the nutrients inside a warm moist bag to begin to break down. If it is not water it is heavy from there being a bunch of sand in there. While this helps with drainage it does not add the needed nutrients or support the plant.

    • @itscooltobeyou
      @itscooltobeyou Před 3 lety +1

      @@TheGreenAlchemist oh, okay, thank you for you're response and letting me about the weights of the bag! Did you tamp the soil down? When you add in new soil you trap air around the roots. Pressing it down will get rid of those air bubbles that will wreak havoc on the roots and eventually kill the plant. Tamping won't do the job itself you'll want to water the plant around the base of the plant to get rid of any remaining air bubbles.

    • @TheGreenAlchemist
      @TheGreenAlchemist  Před 4 lety +2

      You can use the flowers as sort of a light gauge. If you have beautiful white flowers then your plant is getting the right amount of light. If they are green then they need a bit brighter location. If there are no flowers at all then you should move it to a brighter location. Be careful though. Acclimate them slowly because the leaves will burn.
