  • In August 2007, Sophie Lancaster was kicked to death, simply for dressing differently. Two years on, and in tribute to the outgoing, bubbly girl who was denied the chance to live life her way, cult new British make-up brand Illamasqua has commissioned a short film by award-winning French director, Fursy Teyssier.

Produced by creative agency Propaganda, in association with iconic British band, Portishead, Dark Angel is a beautifully haunting rendition of Sophies story.

The aim of the film is to raise awareness of The Sophie Lancaster Foundation and generate £500,000 to help educate young people about tolerance. Since Sophies death, weve been working with behavioural experts Huthwaite International, to put together an interactive youth workshop that does just that.
But this essential education programme can only be delivered with your help.
Please, please show your support watch the film and make a donation.

Were hoping to reach over 1,000,000 hits, so forward the link and help us spread the message. If you have your own website, blog, Facebook, MySpace or You Tube page, or a Twitter profile, please display a link to the film. For added impact, download a specially designed web banner at www.illamasqua.com/sophie/ now.

As well as being available to view online, the film will also be running for a week on MTV from 26th November Sophie's birthday.

Stand up for Sophie act now and buy an Illamasqua Sophie pencil, wristband or make a donation.

Together, well help stamp out prejudice, hatred and intolerance everywhere.

NEVER FORGET SOPHIE, NEVER FORGET ROB. Sophie will always be remembered as the gorgeous, creative, sweet, amazing girl she was. And, please, we all need to campaign to keep those criminals in jail FOR LIFE. Those people are psychopaths, they CANNOT be allowed out. EVER.

This is.. Just ridiculous. I'm a 17 Goth rocker kid trying to get through high school. At least every day I hear someone say something because of the way I look or what I listen to. It's repulsive. I have been learning karate since I was 6 because it was happening to me back then too. Because of what I go through every day. I'm a completly anti bullying person. If I do see someone getting picked on, I do step up. But I do not go around looking for fights. This world is too full of people who think they are big shots and have to pick on the outcasts. It's just sad.

I have read about that repulsive hate crime only today, on Cradle of Filth fan's page, and it filled me with anger and sorrow. Even made me weep, because it's so easy to imagine being in place of her, and getting beating by five people, with no mercy, also with no reason.
I am from Russia, and such xenophobia and intolerance to different looking people is a basic principle of our mentality.. so, sadly, it seems to be part of human nature, not just local cultural phenomena.
And in dear memory of Sophie I won't stop wearing black clothes and corpsepaint on streets; people may want to beat me for that, and say things, but won't awe me into their primitive thinking and narrow views of society.
Rest in peace, valiant dark angel.

We all dress different, so why is that all of a sudden something to attack people on?, if we all dressed the same it's like wearing School uniforms ya know?, i'm glad there different but i hate that there are mean people who think of it differently, we should ban alcohol, and cigarettes (that last one may be getting scarce cause of those commercials)... well i don't know, BTW i love her hair style, ooh look it's ''different,'' DIFFERENT IS FREAKING COOL! Remember that Fairly odd parents episode where Timmy wishes everybody to be the same cause of his "difference in dentures?" hmm..... and everybody looked like grey blobs (which is funny), and Timmy's mom's cooking turned, pink, and Timmy used it as a hat so his fairies could find him and all the other blobs got upset cause he was "wearing something different", oh look thats just where Sophie was at, sheesh sometimes people are nothing but grey blobs!!....

The saddest thing to me is that because of human nature, this tragedy and every tragedy like it will happen again.
This is not an "if it happens", this is a "when it happens". Just look through history books, and you'll see humanity repeating the same mistakes.
So, this just makes me think that eventually, this will happen again. The most we can do is try to keep such a terrible thing from happening on a regular basis, in scale with the entirety of human existence.

Yes, the crow is not real, but it is a story were a terrible sadness is carried out. And a love between two people is taken away. I feel Sophie and Rob had that happen to them, when i watch this cartoon and think about her. I feel that same kind of sadness there, she seemed like a lovely person and was a real beautiful soul. I don't even know where to begin...... Part of me feels ashamed that I'm only now discovering this movie, and another part is overwhelmed with true pity. Not just for Sophie, or her boyfriend, or even her mother, but for the intolerant, ignorant, hateful, lowlife subhumanoid little animals that believe this sort of behavior is completely okay. Not one of them will ever know what real love feels like, nor will they ever know the truth behind humanity as a whole. ....They take pride in their ignorance. Our pain gives them strength. They behave like savages. Killing complete strangers simply because they don't approve of how they look. And no one seems to care! The creatures that did what they did to her barely even got any jail time for murdering a life for the most unbelievable reason there could possibly be! .........You would expect England (you know, the place where gothic rock originated from!) to be some sort of a safe haven for people such as us, but nope! Somewhere out there, there are people (if you can even call them that...) who are JUST crawling out from under the rocks they've been living under for 30+ years, and seeing us for the first time must trigger some serious urge for murder! No asking questions, no common decency, no words even spoken......just an inhuman little urge they have for blood.

THEY are the ones who are blind! THEY are the ones who need to stop their stupidity and grow a HEART already!

A very said story, I just listened to her Sophies'smother talking on the radio, the work she has done since to promote tolerance of subcultures should be applauded. This is a very touching animation, I hope it reaches out to promote a message of harmony and tolerance, it certainly made me reflect of what a divided society we in the UK live in!

I was driving along the M6 when I heard Sylvia's words about Sophie and Rob on the radio. Never before have I heard someone speak with such courage and dignity. I glanced into my rear-view mirror to discover tears streaming down my face. Please encourage your friends to support the Sophie Lancaster Foundation.

I cried the first time I watched this. I am goth just like Sophie and I've gotten attacked numerous times and the trials never reach the justice system. This kind of crime occurs all the time. S.O.P.H.I.E. I hope you change the world, what happened to you was terrible... I give my deepest and most sincere condolences to her family and friends...

This almost brought me to tears it moved me so much. As I am goth i've come across my fair share of taunts, but thank god this never happened to me. It's sad that it takes a tragedy like this to bring awareness of abuse subcultures go through. RIP Sophie.

Touching video about an awful crime. When I was a teenager in the early - mid 80s, half the population seemed to be a Goth. I thought that I was missing out not being one!

3 years later, and this is still something very close to my heart, and something i think that no matter what your religion, what your race, what your ethnicity, you should be supporting this and fighting for what is right. I am a pacifist by nature, but if i ever met any of the guys who got a pathetic sentence for what they did, not even the goddess and god could stop me. Blessed be sophie, i pray that your soul is at peace in the summer lands xxx
