colour on the Gopro has always been superior to the alternatives and still seems to be. The DJI has that blueish tint that is present on many Gopro alternatives. Looks fine until you see it next to the king. It would be the only reason I would still choose a Gopro.

I have 2 gopro hero 10 cameras on a long term (2 years) timelapse for a client and both have suffered from either overheating in the summer or being too cold in the winter and have shut down. Now I need another 2 action cameras for long term timelapse at another site and your video has really got me thinking about the DJI Action 3. I used to have the original Action and it was sooooo much better to scroll through the menus whereas GoPro still has a problem with menu scrolling - thanks for this video
I have the GoPro 11. I mainly use it on my motorcycle where it never overheats, but I have felt the heat it generates in other situations.The actual footage is superb, and thankfully I haven't lost any yet. I never leave the battery in the camera as it does seem to discharge quickly even when the camera is turned off. GoPro are falling behind now, and if they don't address these issues then I will definitely look at the DJI next time. I have the DJI Mini 3 Pro, and the footage from that is excellent.

Yes, the DJI looks like when you are looking through your window shield in the car, and Hero 11 looks like when you're actually outside your car everything is vivid and more colorful. (I hate overheating though and mounting so am looking more into action3.
On some reviews I find the GP 11 footage slightly better, on the others the OA3 the slight winner. Likely depends on settings used. Here I tended to prefer the OA3 more often. It terms of usability GP definitely a step behind. As you noted, both are good for an action camera so neither is really better, more about what fits your needs the most. Nice review!
Gopro still seems to have a better sensor, more details on the ground on the face on the skin etc. but i do prefer A3 for battery life, reliability and color accuracy and for the magnetic mount. I'm not a fan of gopro's orange color tint

I had both sent back GoPro 11 because it overheated and still locked up.. I kept the action 3 and love it. It did overheat once at 120 fps but never at 4K 60 FPS. I am going to get another action 3 (I need two)
I think the overheating issue is mitigated on the Osmo series due to their alloy cases. They dissipate heat way better than the Go Pros with their plastic insulated cases.
Had a number of early model GoPro's but none since GP4, concentrating on full frame gear. Checked a lot of recent video comparisons and bought the DJI Osmo Action 3 for a couple of surf and snorkeling trips. Just used it in Fiji for 7 days and it was flawless, giving fantastic underwater footage without needing full waterproof cage. Great stills also for quick snaps along the way. Battery life was excellent, no shutdown issues at all. Really happy with the choice.

Looking for some other options, really considering this one. Have a trip to Hawaii coming up.
Yep, after years of GoPro's I quit them last year and switched to DJI. Very happy on the whole. Just a general note for anyone using an Action 3 in one of those foam 'wind jackets' you can get for them... those very much allow it to overheat and shut down recording ! Preferable solution is little fluffy velcro 'dots' with a small central hole directly over the 2 front mic holes. Holes let sound through, surrounding fluff diffuses wind noise, camera remains on !
I have the Osmo Action 3. I use it in Canada for content on my fishing channel, and drone channel. The intelligent batteries work phenomenal in sub zero temperatures, and has never froze during shooting.
I switched from gopro cameras to DJI a year ago. I am not joking when saying I lost at least 1 video EACH DAY filming with my newer gopro cameras and I have lost 0 in the whole year while using the DJI Osmo Action 3. The software alone in the DJI is well worth it to abandon Gopro completely.
Also LOVE the snap on mount of the DJI. Would never go back to the traditional screw in screw out system of a Gopro. Especially using helmet mounts it's a breeze as I don't need to adjust the field of view every time I put it back on.
DJI Has some issues that they need to sort out considering motorvlogging. I'm gonna make a short about them soon. But generally I'm fully in love with this camera after using Gopro for years before.
Hi. Purchased a hero 11 in Dec 22 and its been replaced twice and the new one I've just received does exactly the same, freezing, shutting down. I probably have only 2 hours of footage in 6 months. Getting my money back through credit card. I've messaged go pro three times for a call back and I've had nothing today. Last time to get exchange I continued to message for two weeks before someone phoned back.
Anyway lol, I'm looking to replace with the osmo 3 and have a purple panda mic with trrs 3.5mm. What mic do you recommend for motorcycle vlogging and connector.

Thanks Darren for the great insight, Go pro has better image quality but only by a feather, in terms of realilibty, User interface and practically DJI OA3 wins hands down.
I have a vintage Hero + that's been collecting dust for a long time, I stopped using it due to how much of a pain it is to operate. I've been wanting to upgrade to a GoPro 11 for some time. But once I saw the Action 3 at Best Buy and read a few reviews, I made my mind up to go with the Aciton 3. Thank you for the video.
My hero 10 has been very frustrating just to get the footage downloaded onto my computer. I had to remember to cancel my subscription so they didn't charge me another 50 dollars for their glitchy software. I have not tried the DJI yet. Have you had any trouble downloading files?

I purchased the GoPro 11 last year. The video quality and stabilization are better. If I had to choose again, I will still choose the GoPro. Personally, I haven't experienced overheating or any issues. If the Osmo Pocket 3 comes out with a 1-inch sensor and decent frame rates, I might go DJI but for now, I choose GoPro.

Quality wise is exactly the same
Only difference is the saturation on the Go Pro is dialled up
Where as the DJi gives you the natural look
I disagree with this, I had to return my OA4 as even that didn’t match up to GP11 quality in reality. I got hooked into what all the influencers were saying and went for the OA4. Soon noticed that road surfaces, snow, grass etc all lacked the texture and detail that the GP11 manages to capture keep. You just have to look at the above footage on a decent monitor as oppose to phone screen and it’s obvious. Even the hills in the background in this footage look like they’ve been painted. Personally I think the OA3 and OA4 are more comparable to the like of the GP 7/8

But I will still prefer the Osmo Action 4 for lowlight and freediving/scuba footages because of that white balance correction feature. But if im out in a sunny day riding my mountain bike, I would settle on the GoPro 11, dont even need the GoPro 12 no difference on image at all
Great video and I completely agree with everything you mentioned about the DJI Osmo Action 3, and as a moto vlogger, I find it to be the perfect choice.
One of the standout features for me is its quick start-up time, taking just one second from off to recording, which helps save battery life. Additionally, the camera allows for direct external microphone input without the need for any media mods or adapters. When mounted to the chin of my helmet, I can easily see the microphone icon on the screen to know the external microphone is working. In contrast, I've had issues in the past with media mods failing to recognize the microphone, leading to hours of wind noise on my recordings.
The only missing features on the Osmo Action 3 that would make it the ultimate camera for my needs are the ability to charge and use an external microphone simultaneously and a remote that can control multiple cameras.
Does the osmo 3 have a remote that can control 1 cam?
@Daviddear30 yes, although it is marketed for the Osmo Action 2. The Osmo Action 4 is now available and has a remote which also captures gps data and can control multiple cameras 😀
Video quality seems pretty different. GoPro win. I don’t have a GoPro 11 but I wander if you shoot in 4k if it’s still overheat. The 8:7 aspect ration is great to shoot one clip and being able to use it both as 16:9 and 9:16
GoPro definitely overheats in 4K.
My GoPro 9 has an annoying occasional audio popping noise and from what I heard, it's a hardware issue and there is nothing that can be done about it. I think I've just been convinced to get the Action 3. Thanks for this great review.
My Action 3 is still as good as the day I bought it, I bought the Adventure combo version. All my videos in a past year have been done with it. I like the Horizon Steady mode, and 2.7K. It means no matter how bad I hold the camera, as long as it's in the right direction, then my frame is level. One button recording is a game changer. I can switch on and auto record footage one handed without even getting off my bike. I generally use a chest mount, a mini tripod, or just hand hold it. I'd like an Action 4, but this works very well, so I will just keep on using my Action 3!
I am a video creator online - I have never had an overheating issue - why? 4k and 5k are both reduced online to 1080 p - so I shoot at 120 1080 - super wide - the GoPro is #1
I had a gopro max and recently purchased a DJI. The main reason I bought was because DJI has the absolute best customer service. I can’t say the same about gopro from personal experience. I also have a dji drone and they have a great warranty program
I really like my DJI Action 3. I still have my Osmo Action 1st Gen. I mainly use mine as a dash cam and it will start to over heat if you have suction cup mounted on the windshield with the defrosters on. That's on me. I did find a different mount where I can mount it to the windshield and have the defrosters on and no overheating. DJI all the way.
Excellent review (/rant). But yes. I like what yu are saying. However. Wha about ND filters. Did you try any on these two and then compare. DJI does lack some oumpf in the colors (that is the non-pro term of saturation?) DJI looks a bit blunt on your side by side comparison. You can fix these things in the post on the other hand, but why should I? I would choose the Action 3.
I have a GoPro 11, the overheating issue did not come so often but the battery drainage is really a problem. I hope one day I will update to a DJI action. You did not talk about the apps, I am a little disappointed of a GoPro app.
Yeah I mentioned that in my original video few months back, the Osmo app is good but I still can’t believe you can’t live view on the GoPro app 🙄
I think the best decision is to buy one of each and use the one that is best in the situation you need it for just like he did.
I don’t have either of them but seeing the footage you show the GoPro seems to have better quality in terms of clarity, colours and sharpness, it looks crisper while the DJI seems to be all very softened loosing details, maybe I’m wrong.
You make a valid point, what for having a camera that will overheat and then won’t be able to use but, does it happen to every single one of them? Or is it kind of a lottery in terms of a percentage of them not having the overheating issue?

The GoPro renders details better than the Action 3. Overall the GoPro has better image quality.
I don't know what GoPro does but they somehow make their video images pop more they're more vivid .....
Even though it may not be the realistic color profile of what your recording It just makes for more eye-catching video especially for CZcams purposes without any color rendering need it in post....
Although so far using the DJI osmo I've not had one problem with it overheating or glitching or just simply freezing and losing any content that I've shot....
DJI osmo action 3 anyday. Reasons
1. Better battery backup
2. Extra wide view
3. No heating issue
4. color production. Gopro has a orange tint. Dji has cooler tint which is better in my taste.
5. Less price
6. Magnetic mount, easy to fit in vertical mode
7. Smaller size
I HATE so many things about GoPro design and operation, but the colors really pop over the Action 3 in your comparison.
I love the Action 3 but end it up bought the GoPro 11 just because they have The Wireless Remote Control ❤ its so convenient when you can hang your camera anywhere and control it without touching your camera ❤...DJI please release your DJI wireless remote control for action 3,4 and up ... a lot of customers are say NO to your camera because of that reason 😢
You can control your OA3 through DJI Mimo app - dunno what would be missing from that feature, or what's your specific usage that doesn't work with DJI Mimo.
Reading other vlogs that say the Action 3 has a slight blur to the video. I have a GoPro 11 and it takes great video but sometimes it freezes up and other times it overheats. But I just can't buy a camera with poorer video quality. I think I'll delay my Action 3 purchase until the video quality is solved.
What resolution do you record in? I’m trying to decide between the Action 3 or Hero 11 🤔
@@xxsilver_gamingxx389 4K at 30fps and use Divinci Resolve for editing. I have a new GoPro 12 and have tried the 5.3k and that's very nice too. Gone are the freeze ups. I really like the 12.
Fantastic review, I've always found GoPros so frustrating to use, especially the issue you mentioned where you charge the GoPro, take it out of your bag to use and realise the battery is drained. Why?? - so then you remove the battery to avoid drain but then when you need to film you are fumbling trying to open the battery door and of course it flies off if you try to do it with gloves, very frustrating.
I also find on my GoPro it will shut off when I am skiing unless I first run it in my pocket for 10 minutes, recording nothing (and draining a lot of battery) to warm it up!
I just purchased a DJI Action 3 over Hero 11!!! Why? I have a GoPro Hero 10 and can’t use it. It shuts down due to over heating or due to low battery, even though batteries are FULLY charged. I went as far as purchasing new batteries too! GoPros customer service is also one of the WORST. Sadly I’m staying away from GoPro until their cameras actually work and their customer service is at least decent.
Why always so much publicity about the DJi Action 3. The DJI action 3 have still a focus problem. I had one and i bring him back to the shop. I wanna buy a DJI action 3 but for the moment there are problems with the DJI. Nobody can't tell me when i buy when that i have a good one.
any focusing issues have been sorted in firmware updates a month ago
I don't think so. Bought DJI last week, did update and still focus issue. The lens is apparently not seated correctly

To me, your sample videos show a much better image quality from the GoPro.
DJI Action 3, got the adventure pack for 299, 100 cheaper than the Gopro hero 12 and comes with 3 batteries and also I dont have to worry about overheating, I already own the DJI mini 2 drone and Osmo 2 - they just make quality products. Gopro had the market but have dropped the ball for a long time now.
Awesome video. You just helped me decide which camera to go with. Not to mention the fact that you have to spend an extra $79 to attach a 3rd party mic. That was pretty much a deal breaker for me.
My Action 3 overheats after around 29 minutes hanging in the car by the window mirror. Consistently. 4K60 and both displays turned off. Will test 4K30 next time and also a PGYTECH aluminium frame for better cooling. But it is not true that overheating is no issue on the Osmo Action 3. It is, at least under some circumstances. One has to take this into account.
Just did a test: OA3 on a tripod on table, ambient temperature 22°C, recording in 4K30/RS (not plus) with both screens off, mostly static view (smartphone with timer app), the camera stopped recording because of OVERHEATING after 30 minutes 27 seconds).
So it is a MYTH that the OA3 does not overheat at all. It does and it does it much too fast. I am very sorry I did believe all those influencers about not overheating and bought two OA3s. I do record the view in front of my car when travelling on a regular base and only having half an hour before the camera shuts down is VERY BAD.
Tested 4K30 without stabilisation: overheating after around 42 minutes. Then same test with PGYTECH aluminium frame for cooling, overheating after 1 hour and 10 minutes.
Result: without any forced airflow the OA3 overheats easily. If you don't believe me, try it out by yourself!
@Speedster Turbo Berlin I've never had a overheating issue. Not yet anyway I'm outside in humid Louisiana weather. So far so good.
My DJI 3 overheats usually at 25 minutes while recording at 4K HDR 30 fps and 20 min at 4K 60 FPS. However, While recording timelapses I never had a problem over 1 hour and Still running.
Good enough review. I agree with other's comments that I like the Hero 11 images better that you showed. However, let's not ignore one important point regarding the overheating - it depends on how you use it. I've watched other's videos regarding this issue and they talk about how the Hero 9 sucks because it shuts down after recording at 5K for 29 minutes. That doesn't matter to me. I've never recorded for more than 5 minutes in one go. And here's a bigger point - why shoot in 5K? The lenses aren't that good enough in these cameras to make that mean a damn thing. If you really want good 5K video (or 4K for that matter), buy a DSLR. The images will be incredibly crisp.
Yeah I don’t record long either and it still has too many overheats, for me the biggest pain is the battery drain. The video quality is very good tho, I just wish they improved the software side

I think the GoPro is slightly better video but the dji action 3 doesn’t overheat and I like the magnets too
yes the gopro produces some lovely colours but now both has 10 bit but the day to day advantages of the Action 3 I think that give it the edge
once again an excellent report or comparison of these two cameras. Based on my experience with both products, I can only say that no matter how good the image quality of the GoPro might be. The fact that the batteries are simply a disaster speaks against the GoPro. What use is the best camera to me if the batteries are empty every time or bloat after months. In my experience, the DJI batteries are simply excellent. They last weeks in the camera, charge level, have a much larger capacity, charge quickly and don't plan on getting stuck. In addition, the charging box is ideal for transport or storage. In conclusion, one can only say that the DJI Action 3 is a fantastic action camera overall and compared to its lower price. It is reliable and works excellently.
They have new batteries and they last a long time. If you know what professional settings to use, you will save a ton of battery.

That mount system on the DJI is jenk. Rather have the way more secure screw in.
Both of these cameras have dropped in price recently, the Hero 11 Black is now $399 and the Osmo Action 3 Adventure Combo is $439. The video listed the GBP price for the OSMO.

Sometimes really Disappointed with my goPro units.. 1st the OVERHEATING 2nd it hang up if I'm using the MEDIA MOD 😫 3rd about accessories that need to detached from time to time you need to change battery .
Many GoPro users were able to solve most of their overheating issues by upgrading to Enduro. And many Action 3 owners had a focusing issue when the camera was first released. A firmware update has solved this problem for most users, but the problem is still out there for some.
Trust me the firmware update for OA3 does not fix the issue, the issue is HARDWARE BASED. The fixed lens is off on them. I even got an 11/2022 OA3 build with the latest firmware and still horrible focus. I had to return it and Amazon now takes forever to process any electronic returns. Not worth it. Going for the GoPro Hero 11 + go pro subscription for only $347 now.
The out of focus is an hardware issue. Not software
Bought OA3 few minutes after it was announced - got it immediately and never had any focusing issues. Now after few months have second one and same - no issues with focus. Probably bad batch.
Never had a single problem with GoPro overheating.
For it not to overheat you need to be an active person, not a seat at your desk guy. Action camera! Or get the Sony alpha 7a or something like that.
I dont get it. I see tons of these people getting “Action cameras” to simy “vlog” or record while they are stationary at a “party” or whatever 🤦♂️and then wonder why it overheats on them😭

Does the DJI overheat in warmer climates, MTB riding? I had a couple Hero 10s but all failed overheating after 15-20 mins.

Further to my comment below, the action 3 may not be what I need after all . . .let me explain, my client has a site in Scotland (I'm in Yorkshire)that needs to be visited every month to check that the GoPro hero 10 is capturing a constant timelapse at one photo per hour for 4-5 weeks at a time. The GoPro is plugged into the mains and Ive removed the batteries as one of the units overheated and the battery swelled meaning it had to be replaced. In the videos Ive watched after watching yours there doesnt seem to be a dedicated timelapse with photos option rather than a video for the Action 3. As you have the camera can you tell me if the A3 has a photo timelapse mode and will it take a shot every hour like the GP 10 ? thanks in anticipation - Nick

I purchased a Go Pro 11 in Dec 2022.
Its never stayed on long enough to over heat. Normally just shuts down or freezes. Straight out the box it was freezing and shutting down. Its a headache when it freezes in the media mod as you have to take it all off, remove battery and put back in and the footage is normally corupt. Go peo said to do manual update yet it still done it. They blamed the sf card so i purchased the sandisk extreme pro as recommended yet still done it. I have three batteries and was told to test them but again still done it. They replaced in February. I wasnt well so didnt teat till middle of march. Yes this was exactly the same. So got that one exchanged after going through all there test. Just recieved that and tried at the weekend and that does it. Ive not had a working action camera since i bought it and thats three cameras.
I messaged their customer services three times today with the case number yet no one has phoned back. Once it took me two weeks to get them to phone after messageing them everyday.
Anyway i phoned my credit card company who are refunding my money so i guess ill hear from them when they want their faulty camera and accessories. Paid £449 and its never worked and lost hours of footage.
Personally i think the Go Pro pictures/footage is better and clearer but thats if it works. Id never have another Go Pro again and switching to DJI osmo.

excellent ideo. I have both the original Osmo action (which has travelled to many expeditions) and now the Action 3. Just great camreras and the menu interface is very easy to use too

@DMProductions it was a very hard decision to make still even after watching your video...at times the hero looked better and others the dji but I think I'm going to go for the dji! I post a lot of videos onto Instagram of my hiking and the ease of recording in portrait just tipped the scales enough for me to decide! That and the dji is a lot cheaper...I've got my eye on a few on ebay as we speak 🤞
Got bored of GoPros and sold them - sick of them crashing, freezing, not recording when I needed them to. Overpriced, underperforming cameras. Better more affordable options available.

is it really that bad…. i might hv to go for Action 3 then but then some people say A3 has hardware focusing issue… may be insta 360 is the better of these two.
Prefer Gopro but DJI action 3 has better mount. It’s so handy when you are using the same camera to vlog in a car to capture your and the road. Seemless transition.
I have watched about 10 or these DJI - GoPro comparison videos tonight but nobody has talked about the wind noise reduction comparison. That is the biggest piece of info I need to decide which one to buy. :(

On the same resolution the bitrate is the same? wich one have the lowest bitrate? in particular i am interessed for the resolution of 1080p at 30 fps with hevc codec! For who recording a lot is important also to have good file but with small size 😅

To me there’s a pretty large difference in quality. Just take a look at the hills in the background at 2:07, the OA4 is one mass of green, the GP11 shows texture. Again at 2:11 look at the ground, OA3 shows it as almost smooth, GP11 shows how rough it is. I wish DJI would stop asking promotors, sponsors etc to compare their camera to the high end GPs just because they capable of 4k resolution.
Yes I am frustrated as I went out and purchased an OA4 after watching all the comparison CZcams videos only to find out myself that the quality has a fair why to go yet on even the OA4 before it meant that of the GP 11 9 or 12. I ended up returning my OA4 and getting a GP11 in the end. Just wish I’d used my own eyes in all the comparison videos rather than the ‘influencers’ narrating.
just got the DJI Action 3 from my wife as a gift. Have the Pocket 2 & Mavic Air (first Model). For me, DJI is in any case and function better than GoPro (whatever Number).
For me Action 2 or 3 ✅🙏👍
They haven't addressed any of the over heating or frezzing on the 12 still the same , i will be changing to DJI .

I have been using the Hero 10 Black for almost two years. I've been very satisfied with it. BUT! The GoPro 10 is lacking in low light ability. It works well if you are doing a hyperlapse, but for straight video at any resolution, the visual noise is annoying substantial. Given that the Action 3 has the 1 1/7 sensor, which is the same as what is on the Mini 3 Pro, it should perform fairly well in low light, I would imagine. Needless to say, I'm looking for a new action camera. (And I'm to old for any real action. Things break on me much more easily than they used to. So this is going to be used mostly for vlogging)

10:53 Isn't battery drain on the Gopro due to the ability to pair with a phone even if Gopro is turned off? Is there a similar functionality in Action 3? I find it quite convenient to just set up inactive cameras and then wake them all up and start recording in the app. But yes, it probably drains batteries a little bit.
The Action 3, but it needs a better case for mounting.
I the Go pro has more features but the battery life short, unreliable, the mod microphone mount is not good when the usb is connected to the creator pack battery charger. Price is better.
Gopro 11 overheated every time i took with me. Was so FRUSTRATING i sold it on ebay less than a month old. Bought the OA3 and just smiling ear to ear now.
video came in clutch! getting action 3 now. (maybe action 2 cause its cheeper, but same thing). my old GoPro hero 7 broke. wish this video had more views so it came up on my recommended feed earlier

I loved my DJI Mini 3 Pro but I'm still going with GoPro for this one.
I have a week to decide which one to buy. Been almost ready to buy OA3 but then I've found the "focus issue" on those. And I can't find any information about how it is with the devices currently on stock at different retailers. I know about a firmware update available but you can't improve the hardware issue with a firmware:(
Do you have a 4K setting on the GoPro? I'm wondering if that would take care of the overheating issues. I'm still using my three year old cheapo Campark for action footage. I'm happy with it when there is a lot of light. In low light it sucks. Got to make more money and buy more stuff 😆
Yes 4K its the same, its a shame as I give the edge of video quality to gopro but I needs to perform too...!
I love the video my action 3 makes but the magnetic mount on a mountain bike kinda sucks. I have had it pop off while I was riding downhill on my mountain bike twice. Saying that video on a mountain bike is awesome of the action 3 very stable
Can i use both screen for the Action 3 at the same time while recording?
At around the 2:53 mark the ground on the A3 is horrible! There are green flares in it and it doesn't look natural. That is what keeps me from getting one. There are too many times that I have seen things that just look off.
