I realise that in this video I failed to go over my DJI history, which led to my conclusion. See below:
Phantom 4 - great. No issues.
Mavic 1 - encountered fly always & it was glitchy.
Mavic Air - perfect, until one day it began moving by itself, a lot. I lost confidence.
DJI Osmo Action - Bricked after a month of light use. Had to send back for repair.
Wireless Mics - Amazing, until the receiver stopped taking a charge. Sent back for repair after 3 months.
Mavic Air 2 - no issues. Love it.
Pocket 3 - broke down at the worst possible time. Unexplained & not weather related.
So, why do I keep buying them? Because they're so good!!! It's worth the uncertainty 😂
Because you love the drama, clearly. Keeps you on your toes and feeling alive 😅
You "should" be a Quality Assurance Engineer for them ... I just bought the Mic 2 to use with my new iPhone.
I enjoyed your video and do empathize. A few calmly made observations for balance below:
Bug 1. Back compatibility of DJI Mic Gen 2 works with Pocket 3. Generation 1 Mics do not without an adapter You make a reasonable point about the Mics but most electronics manufacturers have limits on back compatibility between new and old products. I assume you have Gen 1, surprisingly.
Bug 2. Weather sealing. Get an Action camera if filming in extreme conditions (they also have some major compromises) - Pocket 3 is certainly not such a camera.
Bug 3. Annoying pop-up for 5 to 10 seconds when Mic first connects. Your middle name is Victor, right? Genuinely, a chill pill may be in order - especially after your nightmares with the Rode Mic (which I also had) 😉
Bug 4. Freezing up. You reported pretty cold conditions in Mongolia. Pocket 3's Operating Temperature 0° to 40° C (32° to 104° F). Caveat emptor.
Incidentally, to prove the point about action cameras, the Action 4 minimum operating temperature is -20C (-4F).
Therefore, you've made some valid points but I am not thinking its fair especially on Bug 4. I totally understand the frustration of the Pocket 3 'freezing' at a critical moment but you can't discount the temperature so if I were DJI I would be understandably feeling a bit of unjust criticism.
FULL DISCLAIMER I have absolutely no relationship with DJI and I am not a fanboy. I hated the Pocket 1 and would never have another version of it. I have had good experiences with DJI Air 2S, DJI MICs (Gen 1) and most recently the Action 4 which i think is great (not as good with low light versus Pocket 3 but still very good). You could get the Insta 360 Ace Pro (but you might never see yourself in focus again) 😀
Happy vlogging! ;-)
Beginning of video “why do they sell camera outside creative bundle”. End of video, “you need 2 and don’t need to buy second in the bundle”. You answered your own question you smarty pants.
@@Qwiv A smarty pants would buy a back-up that is designed to work in extreme sub-zero temperatures which the Pocket 3 is not. Action 4 works to -20C/-4F - that's what he needed.😃
This is a comedy show! “I cant recommend buying 1… but buy 2” freaking hilarious. I have one and I love that thing!
And the weather sealing part at 13:03. Not trusting it at any bad weather condition which it could get wet "like snowing". How about that shots at the beginning like at 3:00 ?
@@Sputim28 yep I love Thomas' videos and have been watching him for years but there is now way he can say this failure is not due to weather. Wet, cold, voila, dead camera. Hours later when it has dried out and warmed up it works again. I have been a loyal DJI customer for years. I have an Osmo Action, Pocket 1, and Pocket 3 and I've never had a second's trouble from any of them. If you want the definition of unreliable, buy a GoPro. DJI products, in my experience, are excellent.
LOL
lol
Love mine too! I even got stuck in the rain and used it anyway just to see if it would hold up and it did incredible
Been using the Pocket 3 since launch and not had a single hiccup out of it, such a shame you had an issue coz for me it’s absolutely the best portable vlogging cam on the market
I can't agree more. I owned one too.
I was the first person in my country to own the Pocket 3 right after it was launched. I dropped 1-meter on a hard floor and it suffered no damage. I boarded a boat cruise and the sea waves splashed on my Pocket 3 and it is still working today.
@@carolined9125But, wouldn't that be with any type of camera?
me too! but his video is a sarcasm of how good the gadget is, not as bad in his description.
how about the freezing or lagging moments when you move the camera around for cinematic shots?
Apologies if this was already said in the comments. The reason the old DJI MIC can’t connect to the pocket three is BECAUSE it does not have Bluetooth in it. The pocket three connects to DJI Mic to easily because they connect over Bluetooth. I could be wrong, but I don’t think there is a radio frequency receiver in the pocket three.
I think it can connect via USB-C to other wireless mic sets. I saw this on a video using Rode Wireless mic.
I wish they’d do an airplane mode to shut off Bluetooth when you don’t need it.
I think he meant that sine the OP3 was made after the original DJI mics, they could have made the OP3 compatible with the original DJI mic by including whatever radio that was needed. For whatever reason they decided not to do this.
Holy shit! It’s Alex Clark! I’m a big fan of
BT is pretty low powered stuff. You may be amazed at how many things have bluetooth and you never knew.@@saxophonistscorner
Hello @ThomasHeatonPhoto, we apologize for the negative experience you have had with your Osmo Pocket 3. This is not the kind of experience we wish our customers to have. May I know if the issue with your device has been resolved? Did you sent it back to us for inspection? Please let us know so that we could assist you further. Thank you.
The Mongolia trip was challenging and I think it must be remembered that the pocket 3 is not an action camera, perhaps the extreme weather and the duration of use in that environment took its toll. I have the pocket 3, it’s an awesome bit of kit but would use it selectively in those environments and switch to my action 4 at times. All tech has issues no matter what company and I have had odd issues with DJI products but their customer service on the odd time I’ve needed it has been amazing and would trust a DJI product over a GoPro one in the last 3 years! I’m sure the true review will be if we see it being used in all your future videos - which I always look forward to receiving the notification that there is a new one as always learn something from you!
Exactly, he was filming at -20 to -30 Celsius (-4 to -22 Fahrenheit) plus windchill and is wondering why the camera failed...? 🤨
Its only rated to 0decC to +40DegC so i don't think this review is fair TBH and totally honest.
agreed I think the review is a bit dishonest as the operating temp is 0 to 40 deg c
Yup. The operating limits are 32 to 104°F / 0 to 40°C.
I once had a camera (a Canon AE1 Program) fail on my first solo climb of a major route in the French Alps. It quit soon after leaving the hut (predawn, very cold), and once I was down and it was later in the day, it started working again. Although the battery was fine, I think it was the magnetic switch that activated the shutter that was the problem. It was just too cold for it. Fortunately, that was back in the good ol' days, and I had brought my backup camera with me on the trip, a Canon FtBn, a fully mechanical camera, which I carried on my other climbs during that season.
@@davegrenier1160 Hell, I had the same camera WAY back when...
I'm a fellow CZcamsr/Landscape Photographer and I use the new DJI Osmo pocket 3. I've just upgraded from the Osmo 1 so it's a huge jump! Sooooo far I've had no issues with filming, I use DJI mic's (not compatible with the OSMO) which I still use, I just match the audio with the video separately no issues. I know your. OSMO malfunctioned in Mongolia, have you thought about replacing it via DJI if you might have a glitchy cam? I think the pros out wieght thr cons and a bit like Wedding photography, you always shoot with two cameras in case one fails at the crucible moment. Fantastic video series in Mongolia, loved your painterly images
Is the crucible moment where everybody melts? hehe
Best line of the video “it’s some voodoo shit”. thanks Thomas for making me laugh 😆
Yeah, that line was great. Loved it.
facts - this one had me laughing for a bit
Love every DJI product that I ever bought. Mini Mavic, Mini 2, Mini 3 Pro, Osmo 4, Osmo 6 and Pocket 3.
And that's precisely why DJI offers products better suited for your specific use case scenario. It's important to remember that the Osmo Pocket 3 isn't designed for sub-zero temperatures, high-altitude environments, or to be waterproof. Regrettably, Your review falls short by not choosing a camera that's more appropriate for vlogging in such conditions. Considering your experience and expertise in the field, one would expect you to have made a more informed decision.
AND NO BACK UP CAMERA!!!
True
@@RubberontheroadIndonesia right! Which is incredibly surprising coming from Thomas. He’s usually on point with his gear, but this time he only had himself to blame.
But he does conclude by saying buy two of them instead ...
Meanwhile, there's Chris Hau using it in sub-zero conditions and in snow.
Hi Thomas. After your review, I immediately rushed out and bought one. Absolutely awesome!
He said buy 2 ..Not just 1
I did the same thing! 🤣
😂
Thomas taking clickbaiting to the next level! My user manual tells me not to use the camera below 0 ° Celsius and how cold was it there again?
Yeah, this felt really clickbaity lol
What would happen? Battery drain
Yeah cameras should only be used in pristine indoor conditions where there is nothing to shoot.
No but if I'm using it outside of operating conditions, I shouldn't expect it to work fully.
@@roninr8199 not really its just some electronics/microchips can't function properly in below 0 temperature just like some cars have a hard time starting when the temps drops below 0 its harder for some device to function.
They do have a framing mode to can put your face in the top of the frame, main screen button on the left "Dynamic Framing" is what you want. However you CANNOT save that as a default, so yea, not great when needing it to work right away.
Other than the reliability issue and the mic compatibility, many of the things you mentioned can be solved by software updates only, but DJI does not have track record of making simple, quick, and intuitive user interfaces. Thanks for bringing light to the subject!
My experience with DJI has been the exact opposite. 3 drones, none missed a beat. Phantom 4, mavic 2 pro, mini 3 pro. Also the wireless mics, I use them for my professional work all the time. They’ve been so good, and have been using for 2 years
The same with me. I traveled to Svlabard. DJI Osmo Action 1 and Gopro 10. DJI was always reliable GoPro sometimes work sometime bricked.
@@Janis_Celms_Channel nice! I’m also using the Gopro 10 for motovlogging. I haven’t had any issues with it luckily
How cold was it? As the Specs for Operating Temperature are
14 to 113°F / -10 to 45°C - glove thermal heat warmers aren't very expensive.
Exactly what I was wondering. Overheating, everyone is aware of, cold, not so much
it says 0 to 40 on their website ?? -5 to 45 for charging
Other cameras there seemed to work ok.
@@blutey Not all cameras are alike, and this camera is not weather sealed. Every camera has specific operating temperatures, DJI specifically states that this camera can have issues under 0C. Thomas was filming in temperatures much colder than that, not including the wind chill.
Was it crazy cold? I’ve had lots of issues with electronics in the cold
That was also my first thought. I'm sure Thomas would be aware of such limitations, and would've checked the specs accordingly, but it seems he was in such extreme temps which aren't even typical for him...
No, this was warm in my pocket inside a car. It performed well in -20, so not the cold.
But he also said there was a green light that was turned on. So if it's a battery issue of reaching the battery cold temperature limit, I don't think it should turn on period. It could also mean that the Osmo Pocket has to be restarted like how the past GoPros or even the present ones where you take the battery out and put it back in to reboot the computers.
No worries, I had a shoot recently at -10°F and all of my electronic cameras were just acting real funky and having issues, so mostly curious.
@@ThomasHeatonPhoto You mean you drove your cat to the mountain top to find the subject. I want one of those cars.
I didn't read the hoards of comments but if you use the joystick to move the camera while in face tracking it will do it's best to keep it framed in that spot. I did find it will limit how high or low. I've just recently got it but has so far done pretty well keeping the reframe.
Yep. Overcomes the face in lower middle problem mentioned here...
@@AndrewCCM not really, since Thomas mentions that it's a problem in medium shots, where he has it on a tripod and he's away from the camera. he can't use the joystick at that point (:
6:20 - I was annoyed with this at first too, but when you're setting up your shot if you get your face tracking locked, then use the joystick to position the face where you want it to be in the track, it seems to keep it there. So I'll get the tracking locked, then just push the joystick down a bit so I'm in that upper third area.
Hi Thomas, I believe your dji probably stopped working because of the extreme cold climate, although it should never be an excuse. Thanks for the review, I was contemplating getting on for my fall trip. 😊
But where do DJI claim that the Osmo Pocket 3 is suitable for such conditions? That's why they offer a more rugged solution such as the DJI osmo Action!
This is like bringing a knife to a gun fight.. 🤦♂
@@AndiGomez-yu2dx will definitely look into the rugged option you mentioned.
I use mine in Finland during winter. Last couple of videos at -16'C (3'F).
No problems so far.
@@PatchedBandit I believe he was in -30 or below conditions. 😁
@@3082frank Most cameras will have issues at those temps though..
In a land far ago I was photographing a Lombard car rally in Wales. I was in a reasonable, though not exceptional spot, when a car hit a bank, took off and turned upside down in mid-air. The framing and focussing were superb and the camera had a 2 frame per second winder (35mm film), I pressed and held down the shutter button and..... nothing happened. The manufacturer sold an external wired battery pack that was designed to go into a warm pocket, which I hadn't purchased. Enough said. As to the rant about the DJI Wireless Mic and the Mic 2, well that's all down to the joys of new technology and trying to keep / gain market share. I sold my DJI Mic secondhand and paid the difference to get the Mk 2.
Thank you for your erstwhile review, I think you have probably persuaded me to spend some money!
Do you have the latest firmware?
I think someone mentioned that at least the last firmware has the possibility of tracking the face not directly in the middle but at some other point. So I would guess that there is a newer firmware...
this option was in the firmware from the start. i never updated my firmware and i can frame the shot while head tracking. you can frame the shot with the joystick. and the gimbal will follow you the way you framed yourself
I have been using my iPhone 14 Pro for a good number of my quick on camera narratives, and have found it to be extremely reliable
Hi Thomas yes just buy two. that’s what I do too if you have a good bit of kit that’s not that expensive have a backup
Just to let you know you can do face tracking with the rule of thirds so you are off centre, just need to dig into the settings
Question🙌how long the camera can record before getting hot or shutting down? Let’s say I want to film a 1 continuous concert/etc. thank you
If you don’t like the framing of the automatic face tracking, just use dynamic framing. There you can set your desired position in the frame.
Works perfect.
Did I just get clickBaited?
Once I realized this I clicked off.
Thanks for saving me time
11:41
Yes
You can lock tracking to other positions if you press the icon at left centre of screen. Then choose option to move ya tracking.
How cold was it there?
Operating Temperature 32 to 104°F / 0 to 40°C
Mine has never failed. Been shooting with it from the launch. Maybe yours has a fault? Or you got it wet at some point?
Mine might do it some day but so far so good. I do carry my iphone at all times so if there is an issue I can always have the phone as a backup.
I’ve had mine for 6 months and I absolutely love it. I do recommend it to everyone 😂 with fair warnings lol I love this video. So well put together and informative while also being funny and entertaining
Great Love&Hate review. I agree; it ticks so many boxes… yet...on an important shoot, one should always have a backup… even if it is a different type of camera... Cheers from LA.
I hardly even know what I am doing with it but I love this little camera so much! It has made recording my walks so easy, I would have never guessed that something so small could be so perfect for what I do. I’ll definitely be following your advice in getting a backup one as well!
Have you tried dynamic framing? It allows you to compose so that you are not centered in the frame.
6:19 You can face track then use joystick to place yourself anywhere in the frame and it will keep you there.
15:52 Any lithium battery will fail if cold enough. The BMS will not allow them to discharge and cause battery damage or failure.
I have a Pocket 3 and luckily I haven't had any problems you experienced. I think it is a great little camera that punches well above its weight. It has some major strengths over an action camera and of course some major minuses (no weather sealing). Now, if DJI had a receiver built-in to their OSMO action cameras then most cases would be covered.
I was going to mention reframing… It’s very easy and works great!
Other cameras there seemed to cope ok with the temperature.
Actually, I believe lithium will discharge at low temperatures but you cannot charge them when the temperature drops below 25F. At least that is the case with my large lithiums in my Airstream.
You had me worried as I bought mine a couple of months ago. Haven't had it out there much yet, but thanks for the heads up regarding a back up. Also...glad you finally got your snow leopard! Congrats! :)
I literally fell in love with you while watching this. This was fun to watch!
I have had such poor dji experiences.
Rc2 - spun out of control and was broken day 1. I returned it and got a rs2 without issue.
Mini3pro - remote randomly died (as in 100% dead) but drone return home safe.
HORRIFIC app support, not supporting the last few generations of Samsungs and its not even on the app store. How noone talks about djis apps ia beyond me.
But i feel it follows a trend of tech and products now days that no quality control and a lack of unreliability is standard, dji or not.
Nice video Tom nice to hear honesty!
Just had mine delivered the other day - so impressed with it so far. Image quality is fantastic!
They are incredible pieces of kit. For all of it's foibles, I love it.
Photo quality?
@@Das644Not yet tried photos with it, from what I’ve seen in reviews though, they’re perfectly usable images - especially if it’s for social media etc
Yeah, that ‘buy two’ recommendation ain’t gonna encourage DJI to address the reliability issues!
Just a thought, but could it have been the cold at your crucial moment that resulted in the failure to operate as expected? You did say (several times) in your Mongolian videos that it was a tad parky out there.
That's why snow leopards 🐆 have warm coats!
...then why did the Pocket 2 work fine? I can't imagine the Pocket 2 somehow having a better cold weather spec than the 3?
@@harduphiker It's important to remember that no product is perfect, and sometimes people ask questions to clarify details they may not fully understand. Asking questions is a normal part of the purchasing process, even if the information is available in the specifications.
Thomas - Did you send it back to DJI for a replacement? Any idea as to why it just stopped and started working again? Possibly a weather sealing issue due to the cold/snowy environment in Mongolia? I have owned all of the DJI pocket cameras and agree the Pocket 3 is amazing. Fortunately I've had no issues with any of mine except for the gimbal on my pocket 2 not being quite level even when I calibrate it.
I am super curious, I had a DJI Pocket 1, and dropped a few times (boooo), and the gimbal just failed me, and can't be used anymore. Any experience coming across this?
Reliability is utmost important! My luck I’ll buy two and both won’t work! 🤣🤣
Really appreciate an honest review. Soo refreshing!
You convinced me Thomas. I am buying one... Thank you for all your warnings....😁
They're amazing, but watch out.
I have been using the first version of this DJI pocket and Action 2 square shaped camera. Thanks for the honest review. Even though the action camera used to heat up a bit, it was the best for hiking.
Great review - always nice to see fellow landscape photographers reviewing things they us in the field. I've been using the Pocket 3 since it came out for a portion of my videos. My list of annoyances is very similar to yours - funny that I'm not the only one annoyed by how long the mic connected message stays on the screen! I do carry an Action 4 as well for either a backup or for times the weather is terrible.
Thanks for the video!
5 seconds out of your life.... you poor sole.!!!
I don’t vlog, I don’t need this pocket 3, but you are so good a narrator and I am so pleased to watch your awesome work and videos that I watched this one as well from A to Z ! Loved the humour in « don’t buy one, buy two »!
Haha, then I appreciate the view more than ever.
Being in the Nikon echo system, the Z30 is like your XT4, but with good autofocus and Nikon colors.
I have been doing photography for over 40 years and got to say I have had Canon & Nikon cameras fail on me (hence reason carry 2) so cannot really say it's not reliable?
How does this look mixed in with something like a Canon R6? Cutting between shots would it be quite obvious if graded similar?
"DO NOT BUY ONE"? OK, so tell me why not when video starts, not 15 minutes later.
Huh
The timeline has chapter points and names and everything. If you can’t figure out what “conclusion” means and have the patience of a gnat, that’s really not Thomas’s problem is it.
Stop JUGGLING his NTS ON YOUR TOUNGE. It's his opinion.
You must be new here
I love mine personally. I also film alone so the active track is important to me.
If you have two of them, will it be just as easy to connect the mic to the other one? Or will you have to go through a lengthy pairing process?
pairing is easy.
used mine for so much filming its insanely good at what it does. changed the way we film now.
With all the praise this thing has been getting, I thought there is no way for a new original review idea....but I was wrong...amazing stuff sir.
Hi Thomas, I shoot video on my xt4 and have run into some terrible audio clicking. It usually happens in windy scenarios with my dead cat covered Rode video mic. Do you have a solution?
Hello from Greece (sorry for my english) I'm thinking of buying the osmo pocket 3 as a B camera but I'm in a dilemma which version to buy.. (standard or combo) because I have some microphones wireless (helliland) I don't know of course how important so would the other accessories and how much better would the original microphone be. What would you recommend with your experience? (do you think it's worth the +150 €)
this is exactly the review I was looking for, especially with travelling in airports and planes!
thank you for the comprehensive review
Thanks Thomas. Question: I know nothing about the Pocket 3, so how much recording time is it capable of? Or is that card specific?
I knew you were gonna say "buy 2"! Haha. I just took mine on a trip to the Washington coast... one day it was sunny, one day it was off and on rainy, and this thing was so useful to have. I did have to be careful about rain (I brought a lot of microfiber towels), and I even used a mini umbrella that connected to the DJI mount you can buy for the Pocket 3, so that worked for a while. I think extreme adventures might be very difficult, however - there will be situations where you just can't use it. I'm ok with that. It is ridiculously convenient to use as I would go out on a hike and literally have the Pocket 3 in my pocket and my camera/telephoto in my hand, and I could just whip out the Pocket 3 when I wanted to film something. I also use a little tripod mount and I kept it on the tripod a lot of the time too - and then just set up the tripod really quickly when I wanted to film. Video coming later this week!
Thanks for the great video 😊
I’m a beginner creator and I’m currently having an I phone 13 plus pro (might update to the 16 plus pro later this year) and a go pro hero 10. So I was actually only looking for a decent mic and thought of getting the DJI wireless mic 2 system.
However after coming across the Osmo Pocket 3 I’m wondering if it would be worth buying it with the creator combo. It would be 300 dollars more expensive than the mic system alone. Obviously the mic system comes with 2 mics a charging case and a receiver which allows to use it on several devices.
Would it be worth to get the Osmo pocket 3 with my current set up and is a bluetooth mic reliable enough to use it also later with an I phone or any other devices?
Or would it make more sense to save the money, get the dji mic 2 set with 2 mics, charging box and receiver?
Im considering of buying this or insta360 X3 what do you guys think??? Plsssss
Certainly an enlightening review Thomas and could sense your frustration coming through here as it seemed to offer you so many benefits only to be frustrated in losing your trust in it. I note some people commented on temperature perhaps being a factor but the pocket 2 you borrowed worked. It would be good if DJI reached out to you to discuss the issue more to perhaps identify a reason and a solution
yes indeed, DJI are missing out if they're not at least watching this video and taking notes....
loved the video, but i have a question. could this be the perfect camera for me as a beginner. i like to shoot some video of our travels with our mobil home. (mostly sunny environments l.o.l.)
and do you have a tip in using video-editing software for dummies
Is this worth buying as a point and shoot that anyone can use? I would mainly be recording home videos, birthdays and occasional holidays. Or would I be better off with a camcorder such as the Sony Ax 53?
Question... Why not get an action 4 is it the gimball that is that much better? Especially when you can get the DJI Mic 2 and the action 4 for 200 Dollars or more less.
Stabe on the action 4 is superb
@@RubberontheroadIndonesia yeah I'm learning that I need to use high shutter speeds to get optimal stabilization.
What platform for you use for editing before uploads?
I bought the pocket 3 recently with the creator kit and my big issue with the the whole setup is the mic. Maybe mine is broken or something but that DJI mic sounds really muddy.
Hey Thomas, do you think Pocket 3 is usable as a second camera with Fuji? Can we match the picture of two cameras if we shoot a 2 camera talking head video?
Thanks a lot for the great review. Do you think it can cope with the dust in South Africa? Or maybe stick with a Gopro?
OMG a gopro, you're kidding aren't you. We are discussing reliability here. Go for DJI action 4
High elevation areas known to get consumer electronics in troubles sometimes. Moisture, atmospheric pressure changes, etc. So backup is essential, also humidity control is essential - keep it in small pelican with some silica gel pockets just in case. Might help. Also high end smartphone could be a good backup camera this days.
Been waiting for your take on this camera since you have used it so much. Thank you for bringing up the reliability. I think I still will get one since it is so convenient. It will be the start for my video recording since I primarily have my XT4 as my main photo camera.
I bought the pocket one and despite me using and abusing it even in light rain, it still works.
When the action 2 came out I bought one and it refused to connect to any phone and it bricked, so I thought maybe I got unlucky and got a bad egg, returned it, tried to connect the new one and on attempt 3/5 to connect to my phone I contacted customer service and while they were walking me through the exact process I'd already tried that one also bricked.
Returned it, got a refund and bought the Insta360 One RS which connected instantly with no issues.
Needless to say that experience didn't fill me with confidence to buy more DJI products.
Does the face tracking work in vertical mode and square mode?
When you are using the face tracking option, you could shoot in 4:3. Then, recompose and crop in post without losing any image quality.
If you were to buy two cameras, maybe having the pocket paired with the osmo action 4 would be good for the harsher weather conditions.
They also have the same log profiles so the footage will look the same from each camera.
Your Iceland and Mongolia trips were fantastic 🍀
The image quality looks so much better than the first one.
Your concerns over reliability do hit home for me though.
I bave the dji mic 2 and often have issues with them not charging in the case, random battery drain, unable to format one mic etc.
I was one of the people asking what you were vlogging on, the image really looks incredible, and it's insane it comes form a tiny sensor like this!
I'm wondering if you still use the Pocket 3 and, if so, has your opinion(s) of the camera changed. I'm interested in this camera but, as an Andriod user, I'm skeptical of a company that won't offer a necessary app through Google Play and I'm also weighing that issue. Thoughts?
Its a one inch SENSOR.... BUT the lens is an F2.0....
So thats why its so good in low light.
Whats the aperture you use on your xt2? f2.8? f3.5?
I'm wondering if your hickup had anything to do with altitude. I remember the first time I was on top of a mountain at 10K feet I wanted to take some photos and video with my iPhone and it was all wonky and wouldn't turn on, or when it did it would turn itself off, so I though I accidently hit it on something without knowing it, but once I was down off the mountain it turned on and worked just fine.
I have an DJI Action 3 for backup and for rain. Action 4 can use the wireless mic from the Pocket 3. (I already had the 3)
I want one specifically for filming rollerskaters in skate rinks which are low light. It's a very specific need. Would you reccomend it for this?
Action 4
@@RubberontheroadIndonesia thanks but I want mechanical stabilisation like with the Osmo Pocket 3. I got a Pocket 3 and I’m liking it so far. Check my channel to see the sort of skate videos I make. I think you’ll understand why a fumble is better suited.
I'm going to go buy this today, in about 2 hours to be exact once the store opens up. I leave for colorado and a camping trip in utah tomorrow. you've convinced me. thanks for such an informative and cool video!
I was eyeing up one of these for a roadtrip series but this is making me rethink it. Huge plus with the mic but don’t love that it’s not reliable 😳 thank goodness you had a backup for that important shoot day!
I'm super torn on what to do because of this video! Next year i'm going on a 6 week trip to south korea and japan and i'd absolutely love to record my experience there. Up until now ive been looking at getting a second hand dji pocket 2 for less than £200 on ebay because its all i can really afford, but the dji 3 does look incredible. I might end up compromising and getting the dji 2 creator bundle as before i was just going to try and get a stand alone dji 2 as i didnt know the importance of the bundle. Is the 3 really worth the £400 extra price mark over a second hand dji 2?
Great to see and hear the feedback!
Thomas, what was the approx. temperature the two times it failed? Maybe it was just colder than the operating spec? For those who film things that happen in an instant, a backup camera still wouldn't be a solution. You need a camera that just works in the moment.
What are your sharpness and noise reduction settings?
Why my pocket 3 blurry video images after I used it 3months? Anyone can advise I really appreciate
How can I get my DJI Mic 1 set to work with the Osmo Pocket 3…is there an adapter that I can purchase?
Just wanted to say this video is why I took the plunge and bought my own pocket 3 combo! Thanks!
Excellent review. Many thanks.
A balanced review, and one that pretty much matches my own experience with the camera. I've only had it fail once on me so far, but it was really frustrating. The camera was working but the gimbal wasn't allowing complete movement. It eventually righted itself, but it does suggest that it really isn't quite ready for primetime yet. I will always need to have some kind of backup just in case. The footage from the camera looks great though
Thanks for sharing. I've heard similar stories.
What was the temperature when the Pocket 3 failed? I wonder if it was just too cold, like if you left it inside your jacket until you were ready to use and pull it out.
I was out with a film camera a while ago where it was -14c, and the batteries just would not work at that temperature, but once the camera warmed up, it was fine.
I use mine primarily for Timelapse and hyperlapse while photographing other things - works great for that.
Thanks for the timelapse tip… I want to do the same with mine
The DJI Pocket 3 operating temperature range is 0C to 40C. You were *well below* that range in Mongolia - don't you think that might have something to do with it?
Thanks for your honest review I really aprecieate it. I was very close to buy one
Wait, so you just use DLOG M footage with no color correction at all or LUTs, on purpose?
I guess that explains why the footage looks worse than what I've seen from other people using the pocket 3, but at the same time not as flat as I would expect from the DLOG I get from my current main camera.
So why did you borrow a pocket 2 when the pocket 3 failed, instead of just using the photography camera we see strapped to your back? Was the issue not that you missed out recording the snow leopard, just that you couldn't immediately record a handheld vlog about it?
Very helpful. I'm in the middle of an internal debate about buying one. I'm on my 4th DJI drone so I'm a bit of a fan. Would you be a victim of early take up? DJI gear seems to be a lot of fix on the run type behaviour.
I appreciate your frustration, I’m pleased you’re more patient than I, it would never have been found, but what is the alternative?
Great video, had me worried at the beginning, as I bought the whole creator combo to start vlogging my Japan trip of which I just started today!
How are you finding the Insta 360 X3?
