This video got everyone heated! It’s like any other hobby folks, you put money in because you enjoy it…at no time anyone in this video says you NEED these rifles to hunt. I hunt with a $300 savage axis and a good piece of glass on it…but if i enjoy hunting and have the money to spend why would i not dial in a rifle to fit what needs i want in the field.

@@jlpowell8432 Zack actually has both and loves both scopes. The Kahles obviously has a deeper feature set and handles the competitive side of shooting better. Both are capable for 99% of shooters in our opinion. The key with any scope is to shoot it and test it to make sure it's accurately tracking when dialing for longer shots.

Maaan those are some sweet builds! Heavy though. I'm running a Barrett Fieldcraft with a Leupold VX-3 4-12 and Kramer snipe pod. Just over 6 lbs

Using the tripod as a gun rest works great for me instead of a bipod. Shot a Idaho California Bighorn with that set up and it worked great. Love the Night Force scopes, have two and they are awesome. Also really like using a Safari sling instead of a conventional sling, especially in heavy cover and fast shooting. Good luck hunting.

You know that people complain about the cost of your rifles. I have a specific rifle and wildcat cartridge I want to build. But reality is, I could have built it 3 times over. Instead I spent the money on other firearm supplies and equipment.
Over $1000 on stuff that didn't work or was inferior to what I already had.
If you don't have the fortitude to save up and buy the best, don't complain when somebody else does!
Just an observation but I recently came across your video on the “black label” gun build and now this video granted they are a couple years apart but with your relationship with Proof and Defiance, say nothing of some PRS experience comments made by individuals being interviewed someone should have helped you guys with ring spacing on the rail and a more forward position of your scope in those rings.
Having the rings mounted as far apart as possible on the rail and your turret position as far forward in the rings as possible without touching the front ring is a game changer with respect to a flatter shooting position, eye relief and the balance and recoil management of the rifle. The upside is all things being equal you all are choosing a “weight appropriate” set up for longer range shots than a 5-6 lb featherweight can achieve.

The real shocker is not a single Tikka in the group!
We have 2-3 guns built off Tikka actions among some of the other guys here at the shop. Just couldn't do a review on everyone's setup. Tikka makes a great product!
Zack- tech question for you. It looks like you’re running the Hawkins Hunter bottom metal with the three round flush fit magazine. How does the 300 WSM feed with that set up? The reason that I ask is that Hawkins recommends their medium action magazine for that cartridge because they claim that the short action magnum magazine has feeding issues.
Kurt, I’m curious if you went 1st or 2nd focal plane on the NX8? I’m looking at this scope for a .300 WBY. Great video guys, loved seeing everyone’s setups!

Thank you for the detailed presentations. I learned a lot. I am going out in CO next year with a guide who insists that my scope be at least a 50mm Objective Lens. I have a Leupold VX5 3-15 x 44mm and I'm wondering why the guide is so insistent on 50mm. I would be interested to hear thoughts from anyone on your team why this is such a sticking point for an Elk hunting guide. Thanks.
That's a pretty ridiculous request. There is no reason the VX5 that you have would not be totally acceptable to use on your hunt. I would hope your guide would want to know if you can use your rifle well more so than if your rifle has a 50mm objective.
@@stoneglacier9636 Thanks!!! You cheered up my day. I can use the rifle. I comfortably shoot a red construction brick (8" x 4") at 260 yards first time almost every time!! Love to shoot accurately.
Great setups! Why did you go with 4 in Arca plate? Salmon River Solutions have Mini Arca plate 1.7 in long. It's lighter and will probably work just fine with the ball head in the video.
For the extra ounce or so it allow some flexibility in the balance point of the rifle on the tripod. But yes, you could make a shorter plate work.

I was really surprised how heavy their guns are.
Well shooting a 212 grain ELD-X at 3200 fps I would want a bit heavier rifle too. I am with them on a bit more weight in a rifle I know shoots where I want, it is a trade off for sure.

How was the process for putting a proof barrel on the Weatherby? I have a RPM I’d like to swap barrels on, just curious if it was a pre fit or what? Thank you 🙏🏼
You just need a gunsmith to chamber a barrel. No prefits exist currently.

@@andcat7162vortex razors Gen 2-3 are nice and maybe a few PSTs are ok for the money and a designated target rig but after that I would consider all other scopes made from them, especially for a hunting rig to be junk

I’m interested in building an elk/deer rifle and have come across a lot of 6.5prc and 300prc options. Does Andrew feel like the 6.5prc is adequate for elk?
At the right range it would be. Like any caliber you need to understand your bullet performance and what it's effective range is. If you were building a gun for elk the 300PRC is the better option.
Watch Ron Spomer’s channel he covers this topic over and over so you don’t end up hunting elk with a 6.5 CM and thinking you can head shot at 800yrds.

Does the nightforce nx8 have locking turrets?
No it does not.
The Atac has locking turrets.
Why is no One running the Vortex Razor LHT’s? Even the 4.5-22 is only 21.7oz
Vortex are junk unless you’re looking at the razor Gen 2-3 but they are super heavy. Most people use leupold or nightforce and hunting rifles

Yep, we love them all. No 300 or 7 PRC for no reason, just doesn't happen to be in our team's quivers right now.

You could use a sticker to outline the logo and then cut it out of card stock or a think cardboard to make one.

I'm not sure why the relatively recent confusion between "Calibre" & Cartridge". This confusion turns up these days on every video, particularly American derived videos.
Being that "Calibre" has nothing inherently to do with barrel swap & cartridge change. Not a huge issue, I realise however, it would be nice to see the correct terminology used which, tends to give the impression that they know what they're talking about.
Caliber means the bore diameter. A cartridge is what the barrel is chambered for.
For instance a 308 caliber bullet will fit in a 308 Winchester, 30-06, and 300 win mag but the cases and chambers are all different.
Likewise a 6.5 creedmoore and 6.5 prc are the same caliber (.264) but have different cases and chamber dimensions.
Interesting that every (or almost) rifle uses a Proof Research barrel. Are you guys sponsored? That must be one heck of a barrel or someone is paying you to use them.
Nope no one here is sponsored or paid to shoot PROOF. Just great barrels and another brand based here in Montana.

Why aren't u guys shooting Barnes's bullets. Love the Ruger rifle. I run alot of actions from Rugers. Montana. Bat. Defiance. Remington and terminus. I got a 300rum on a Remington and a new one getting built on a terminus action. U guys got some nice rigs.
We've just found good shooting bullets with other brands and they've worked well over the years. Barnes does make some nice bullets, just haven't loaded up any rounds with their offerings yet.

So Kurt is nit picky about 3oz in his pack but is carrying a 10lb rifle…? I don’t get it.
When you work your butt off to get to the places Kurt hunts being able to capitalize on a difficult shot on an animal that you may only get a chance at every few years then yes, he will carry a few extra pounds to capitalize on the opportunity. Saving pounds on your other gear allows guys to carry extra weight in their gun which is a pretty critical part of the kit when it comes to filling tags.
@@stoneglacier9636 I see your point. I do it with a 7.5lb rifle setup every year and never feel like I need a heavier gun to make a difficult shot. Just kind of a counter intuitive to carry a 10lb gun around but then deny yourself the ability to make a hot meal just to save a few oz.
@@MrHf4l Kurt sometimes goes stoveless but almost all the rest of our guys carry stoves to make warm meals. We save ounces where we can and in ways that don't effect our performance in the field. We could make lighter backpacks but then they couldn't haul out the loads required by a hunter.

For a company that specializes in lightweight gear I can’t believe how heavy all of your rifles are. No way I’m lugging a 12lb gun up and down the mountain no matter how nice it is.
I am NOT taking firearm advice from folks, who as a whole, dont seem to know the difference between a clip and a magazine.

Weight isn't the only factor when choosing gear. When we can cut weight and retain function then we absolutely will. Most of our guys work tirelessly to get opportunities and just feel that a little extra weight in the rifle can go a long ways in making a great first shot on game in the field.

It looks like who wants to spend more money on their gun video, but it all comes down to who can shoot them accurate that’s why I buy the cheaper guns practice is the key
David we all could spend much more money on guns then we have here. When your job and passion is hunting, spending some extra money on a gun that you trust and that shoots lights out seems pretty appropriate to us. Nothing against cheaper options, we just use the gear that works best for us.
I can understand where David is coming from, nothing against a good purpose built setup, it just seems these days any new/young/first time hunters see custom rifles all over social media and think that they have to spend thousands to get out into the hills and enjoy themselves.
They can do the same thing with an out of the box Rem 700 or Tikka t3 for example.
Don't get me wrong, my main hunting rifle is a custom build, so obviously nothing against them.
Clynt I couldn’t agree more! I work in the hunting/firearm industry and I answer these questions every day, it’s unfortunate that social media has glorified hunting to point where if your not spending every last dollar on high end gear or shooting animals at un-ethical ranges your not cool!
My suggestion to customers is spend more time in the field hunting then saving money to buy all this expensive gear because the bottom line is you can’t be a skilled successful hunter if your not hunting. Use what you have and can afford, our grandfathers used to get it done every year with almost nothing.
There’s not a single gun on this video I would carry on a hunt… $5000 for 9-12# rifles 😂

@@stoneglacier9636 I can afford any gun I want but choose to take light weight factory guns into the backcountry. Plenty of options out there that shoot just as good as these $5k heavy rifles. Seems to me all the “company gear guys” just want to look cool with their proof research barrels and make videos about how cool their rifle is.
I’d rather spend that $5k on tags and transport every year personally.
@@MrHf4l Glad that the lightweight factory guns are working for you. Unfortunately we've used lightweight factory guns and honestly most of them just don't perform in difficult situations like we want. Given we like to practice a lot with our hunting rigs, a light barrel heats up very quickly causing POI shift on larger strings of fire meaning less time for practicing and more time waiting for a barrel to cool down. Pros and cons to all of it.

@@stoneglacier9636 You'll be lucky to find factory guns that actually shoot 1" MOA.Many are 2" groups whch is fine for short ranges. I've have custom rifles like these built and they tend to be 1/4 - 3/8" MOA or better with the right ammo. A 4,000-5,000 rifle may not be worth it to everyone but if I have one shot at an animal, I'd rather have a little extra weight and accuracy in my rifle. I personally shoot Khales 5x25 scopes with SPUHR mounts as the glass is insane and they track like a NF. Yes, I know they weight 2 pounds...

Nothing says I shoot whitetail out of a tree stand at 80 yards more then your tag being 2MOA hunter. Probably shoots a .270 win or a 300 win mag and zeros his scope to be 1.5 inches high at 100 yards with 2 rounds out of the same box of ammo he has been hunting with since 2005.

Appreciate the input. Muzzle brakes reduce recoil thus allowing you to better spot your impacts which is something any good hunter should strive to do on their shots on game. Are they obnoxiously loud, absolutely.

Tell me you are old without telling me you are old….. very few if any on here are using light plastic stocks, most of them are using high end carbon fiber stocks and are on the heavier or middle weight side. Muzzle break will help significantly with recoil and if they don’t mind the noise…. Then why do you care? Is there something about the muzzle brake that is unethical or hurts you in some way?
