  • Logitech G335 gaming headset review. These have massive bang for your buck coming in at $69 doing nearly everything right. I was extremely surprised at the build quality, satisfying volume wheel, comfort, flip-to-mute mic that blends in, and great cable. Sound quality was also surprisingly good but is very targeted for those who enjoy treble focused sound signatures such as those found on the Sennheiser 598. These certainly should be on the list to check out if you are in need for a new gaming headset.
    This headset will work for anything that has a 3.5 mm aux port. Such as the PS5/Xbox Controller, PC, Laptop, Nintendo Switch, some cell phones, etc.

    Hello! Great review! I would love to see a similar review for the upcoming logitech g435, since I'm trying to decide between those and the g335. What I've seen from other reviews, the g 435 seem to have a rather bad microphone. I don't want anything worse than what the g335 sounds like here so a video just like this on the g435 would help me a lot. I haven't seen any comparisons between the two yet, which is most likely because the g435 is not even out yet. I'm trying to decide wether it's worth waiting on them, so any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

    Great and thorough review ! Just 1 more question: Does the earcups make pressure on the ears?

    • @ThomasMuehler
      @ThomasMuehler  Před 2 lety +2

      I'm not sure if I fully understand the question. Do you mean are the earcups shallow so your ears rest against the driver? Or how strong is the clamping force? Or is the clamping force even on your ears.
      1. Not very shallow. Not super spacious either. But an inbetween. If you have large ears, or ears that stick out a lot, then you may rub against the driver. If you've got more "normal" size ears I don't see you having a problem. There is a lot of padding (compared to other headsets) between the driver and your ears too if you do end up resting against it.
      2. Clamping force in my opinion is just right. Perfect.
      3. Clamping force is extremely even. Padding gives enough to be comfortable but stiff enough to not comply give in.

      @@ThomasMuehler The micc sounds clear, not a lot of range but no poppin so that's good. How is the loudness? I find a lot of mics are anemic and hard to hear over discord.

    • @ThomasMuehler
      @ThomasMuehler  Před 5 měsíci

      @@hannahanderson4305 Popping usually occurs due to peaking. If you are unaware of that term it is when the gain is too loud so you go over the threshold for the mic. Or some kind of interference or connection issue.
      As for loudness. Honestly, I can't give a good review on it. As I use a dedicated microphone when I'm gaming and haven't used a headset microphone for a long time. But usually, I find that to be a "user error" of not having the correct gain setting on the PC (both in windows settings, program settings, and if applicable software) along with how loud/soft the person is talking, along with position of the microphone. As most people just don't have education with microphones so aren't doing things correctly which can vastly sway results. Such as not talking at a normal consistent tone, not having a consistent (and correct position), along with correct settings as mentioned. Plus depending on voice timbre and your own hearing and the headsets strength/weaknesses in that tone it can make people more or less loud. For example, people with deeper voices are harder to hear then people with higher voices.
      With that said, anemic tones are also pretty common with headset mics. As they tend to be more treble based. Which makes peoples voices sound thin/lacking since they don't have the normal treble and bass presence. This too varies wildly with peoples natural tone of voice. I'm lucky where I just have a voice that in general sounds good on most microphones (along with training to have it setup correctly). But I would say yes, this is still anemic sounding (compared to a better microphone). And hearing in Discord is going to relate to the things above along with how good/bad your teammates are at the following. For example I have one friend who has his microphone far away (dedicated microphone) along with varying how loud he is speaking a lot (from quiet to normal) along with mumbling. And trying to get his volume correct in game is a nightmare. As find the goldy-locks range is nearly impossible because it changes so much.
      I kind of went off into a rabbit hole there... If I didn't answer your question please let me know.

    This was a very helpful review! What is the internal height/width/depth of the earcup? These seem to almost perfectly fit what I'm looking for, but you mentioned the earcups were on the small size, and I'm usually an over ear kind of person. would u get these or the RAZER Blackshark V2? kinda deciding on what other options besides razer v2 i could get for around 100$

    • @ThomasMuehler
      @ThomasMuehler  Před 2 lety +1

      As I mentioned in my previous comment. I like these better than the Blackshark V2 just because I find these to be better at PVP as they are treble focused. But with that the mids/bass sound a bit anemic (soft) so gunshots and explosions and stuff don't pack as big of a punch. And is a sound that you need to acclimate too over just enjoy right when you put them on. Where the Blackshark has a tuning that is very pleasing right away. But as you get more critical the sound starts to decay a bit. Where I'd say with these I enjoy the sound more as I get more critical with them but don't have a balanced sound.
      So, what I'm saying is if you want to just enjoy shows, music, single player gaming, multiplayer gaming (in a causal non-competitive way) then the BlackShark V2 as the sound is tuned for the masses.
      If you are wanting a headset to be competitive (hear footsteps, reloads) and hear every detail (albeit not always in a pleasing way) the G335 is your guy. But it isn't as good for music, TV, or single player games where you just want to enjoy the sound.

  • @markk1720
    @markk1720 Před 2 lety +10

    Hi, great review! I have just bought both the g335 and g733 and they are both so good i cannot decide which i like best! To be honest the g733 with the logitech ghub is great as I would of liked the G335 with some more bass so on that note i am leaning towards more the g733. I think there are pros and cons between wired and wireless with the wireless obviously allowing me to use the headset with other devices / consoles but the extra bass from ghub I am really liking. In your video you mentioned how the g335 is technically capabale of surround sound - could you explain this a little more? Would I just need to download some 3rd party surround software and that would work with the G335?

    • @ThomasMuehler
      @ThomasMuehler  Před 2 lety +4

      I appreciate the run down between the two headsets! Very helpful. It is frustrating that the G335 doesn't come up in the Logitech Software.
      So any headset is capable of surround sound. As all the surround sound these days is Virtual Surround Sound done through software and two pairs of drivers (stereo) which all headsets are. So, as long as you have the software that can enable surround sound and a headset that can be "seen" by said software you can get surround sound. One example of this would be Windows Sonic or Dolby Atmos for Windows which you can activate under your sound settings for that particular headset.
      So, if I've got a 3.5 mm headset plugged into my PC and under sound settings and it says like "RealTek Headset" (that's not the name I'm completely blanking right now) and you go into the properties for that sound device and then its the last tab (forgot what it's called) you can select Windows Sonic or if you buy it Dolby Atmos and you'd be getting surround sound for that headset. As long as the game/movie/thing you're listening to supports it. As you've got to remember it's a chain and without everything in that chain supporting it, it won't work.
      I'm not sure if I explained that very well. Does that make sense?

      Unfortunately, I haven't tried the G733 so I can't say.
      However, if you really enjoy the G335 then I wouldn't worry about it. Some things I've learned testing all these products.
      1. There is always going to be something "better". But that doesn't always mean it is worth the "upgrade". As "better" and "upgrade" can sometimes be up to personal preferences and how you use the product.
      2. There is not a single product that will work 10/10 for everything.
      3. You can spend a bunch of money for nearly the same results.
      4. You can chase the next best thing but it is a revolving door that will never be fully shut.
      So, again if you are happy with what you have I wouldn't worry about it. I'd just enjoy it. Then when it breaks or you are over it you can start to look for the next thing. But that rabbit hole can be dangerous.

      It made sense. I'm not someone who uses that feature a lot. So, I can't tell you from personal experience. I just know anything that you switch a lot is going to eventually wear down and break. So, yes, it is still a risk. But I'm not sure how long that will take to happen. I also think if you're being careful with it then it will last longer than if you were careless and forceful about it.

    Is the music quality ok? I spend many hours listening to music (I'm not usually picky with these things since I currently have a 20$ headphones lol) so I'd like to know if you think they're actually good/ appreciate the sound for long periods of time listening to music

    • @ThomasMuehler
      @ThomasMuehler  Před 2 lety +4

      Audio is so subjective it is hard to adequately explain. The point I try to make when explaining sound is that each Headset/Headphone/earbud/etc. all have a "sound signature" that they shoot for. With modern electronics EVERYTHING these days sounds "good" or "solid". Or pretty much does. Then you can get to Solid/great pretty quickly by spending some money. You only hit Fantastic and Phenomenal after spending A TON of money.
      So, with that said I think the G335 for the price sound fantastic as mentioned in the review. I personally don't mind the lack of bass because I even though it is slightly anemic it is accurate and still impactful. But according to the "average sound" from most "budget/cheap" earbuds/headphones it's going to sound terrible. As it is going to be treble/clear focused over bass/bloated focus. I personally prefer treble/clear and think these sound clear with excellent treble, locational audio, and imaging (able to take the different layers apart). Mids are solid/great. Bass is acceptable/good. But I'll take the trade for the other things for that.
      So, to answer your question, I would have no problems listening to music on the G335 for long periods. As while I was writing this up I was listening to music on them and fully enjoyed myself and honestly think I'd have a hard time getting "better" sound from another headset without spending a lot more money. However, with them being treble focused you can build up some "fatigue" from the "harshness" of the treble which takes some getting used to/acclimating. Where you may need to take some breaks. Also, lower volume is your friend. I also think it will be a big bump compared to your $20 earbuds.
      I used a lot of "quotes" as again with audio so much is subjective and what one finds true could be different for someone else. Especially, when comparing to where they are in their audio journey and their ears. I've tried a stupid amount of headsets and am extremely critical. The G335 fits more in the category of sound that I like and would consider the audio as "budget audiophile" as it is more balanced. Another example of what these sound like would be very similar to the Audio Technica ATH-M50x.

    Hey! This is a superb review, made me get the headset myself. However, I do have a question about this. Is there any way to activate the 7.1 surround sound or does it activate by itself. I’m not sure if I’m trippin but I can only hear the sound rotate through the back of my head but not the front. Is this normal? Thanks!

    • @ThomasMuehler
      @ThomasMuehler  Před 2 lety +1

      So, this headset doesn't come with 7.1 surround sound. But you'd enable it through the Windows Sound Settings or through whatever device you have it plugged into. So, if your soundcard supports 7.1 you'd go into the sound settings and turn it on there. If you are on Xbox or PS you'd go into the sound settings there.
      As for the sound rotation. I honestly don't know. I think part of that is definitely learned and varies a lot from person to person. Some games also do it better than others. So there are a lot of variables there. I think most people tend to prioritize their eyes from the front (so almost turn off their ears) so they lose the directional quality until they lose sight of their target and then go back to the ears while scanning with their eyes. I don't know if any of that is actually true. But that's what I've found from my experience and looking into the issue. And just psychology.

      Also, that spatial sound may be the reason why you are losing the front tracking. It's actually best to turn off surround sound. As most games these days have their own (HRTF)(AKA another hamburger of surround sound) built it and when you are using another surround sound it can mix some things incorrectly giving you inferior sound. So, what I'm saying is my recommendation is to turn off surround sound as I tested this headset without surround sound and the imaging was excellent that way. Do you think it is better than the g733? And I think this is the best review i has seen on CZcams keep up the amazing work. And do they work on ps4 because I just read ps5/xbox in the description?

    • @ThomasMuehler
      @ThomasMuehler  Před 2 lety +1

      Hmm. How to answer.
      1. I haven't tried the G733 so I don't know how they compare.
      2. With that said I can make some assumptions. Usually products higher in number are "better". So the G335 is the "lowest end" and the G733 is near their "top end". But with headphones being what they are now days a lot of times the drivers inside the headphones (inside a certain series) are the same or very similar. Leading to very similar sound. and the more expensive you get the more features you "unlock" such better build quality, more adjustments for comfort, better microphone, going wireless, adding "7.1 surround sound", and other features that you may or may not use.
      3. I did very quick research on the G733 specs vs the G335. It looks the G733 have improved drivers in them (which may give you better audio quality), are wireless vs wired, have rgb vs none, have a detachable mic vs hardwired. So, depending on your definition of "better". Yes, the G733 will be a better headset. But I wouldn't imagine the sound quality (which is what I base a good/bad headset on) will be all that dramatically different. If that is what you are focusing on I don't know if the leap in price would yield much benefit. But the other features would help justify that cost. Audio is also so subjective which is why I'm giving you the long answer.
      4. If you can afford it sometimes what I like to do is buy both and then compare them and keep the one I like more. So, if I bought the G335 and the G733 and was focusing on sound quality only and they were close to each other I'd return the G733 as the increase in price isn't worth it. You get the idea.
      As for do they work on PS4? Yes. They have a 3.5 mm aux cable. Which means anything with a 3.5 mm aux port will work with these. So, you'd plug them into your PS4 controller.
      Hopefully I answered your question. If I didn't or you have more just let me know.

      Whereas the Blackshark V2 X was better for immersion at the cost of hearing the nuance of sound and having a competitive edge. In general I wasn't a fan of the Blackshark sound as I felt it prioritized bass a bit too much at the cost of everything else.

    • @ThomasMuehler
      @ThomasMuehler  Před rokem +1

      @@arashheidari8112 Razer the Logitech are two of the top brands in gaming peripherals and you’re likely paying a premium for either one. Both are expensive and I wouldn't say one is more reliable than the other. Personally, as of late I think Razer has been making more bangers across the board than Logitech (but both have certainly had their misses). But find that Logitech's recent fare has been more average, as they have been going off their previous excellent products instead of making new ones. Regarding these two products I think the Logitech is better than the Razer (comfort, build quality, look, microphone, sound) especially for competitive gaming.
      As for 7.1 Virtual Surround. All headsets are capable of that as it is software based not hardware based. Which means any headset can take advantage of it. But sometimes a brand will put their surround sound software behind a paywall. I'm not sure if Razer's is or not.
      Going a bit more in-depth about virtual surround sound. You could argue that Razer’s drivers may be better tuned to work better with their virtual surround as they are all in-house. But I’m not sure how true that actually is. As games themselves are in charge of their own sound and the way they do that varies drastically. For the past several years surround sound for gaming has changed a lot and when you see it on a headset 99% of the time it is a marketing ploy to sell a headset over an actual benefit. Snakeoil as people say (which means that the product claims something that doesn’t necessarily translate well to real world use). As nearly EVERY game has their own virtual surround sound built into the game itself. Or is built to use stereo sound to still give accurate imaging. Or just has bad imaging anyways. I’m trying not to go too deep into this rabbit hole. Which makes third party software pointless and at times even counterproductive. As the game will take on that virtual surround (if applicable) better than third party software, and give you the best results.
      To explain why it can be counterproductive, you need everything in the “chain” to work in order to get the best sound. So for example if you have Third party virtual surround sound active, the game also needs to have 7.1 surround sound, and it be set to that, in order for everything in that chain to work correctly. As that way it can match the correct sounds to the correct virtual speakers. However, if the game doesn’t have 7.1 surround sound (which a lot don’t as they use something called “binaural sound”), or if you don’t have that setting turned on in game. But you have 7.1 virtual on in third party software and then go into a game that only has stereo (2.1 sound) then it will spread those two channels incorrectly to the 7.1 channels making it so your audio quality (and more importantly directional audio cues) are all incorrect and less accurate than if you had that software off.
      Which was a long way of me saying that no, I would not purchase the Razer headset just because it markets 7.1 virtual surround sound. As for the most part this is a gimmick over an actual feature.

    • @ThomasMuehler
      @ThomasMuehler  Před 2 lety +1

      Great question.
      Personally, I like the G335 better. As I think it is more comfortable, has a better microphone, and prefer the sound signature. I also prefer the look.
      However, I'd probably recommend the Blackshark V2 X for most people. As the sound signature is more in line for your "average person".
      I do have a review for the Blackshark V2 X if you haven't already seen it I recommend checking out.
      But mainly, the G335 has a "treble" focused sound. Meaning that the higher frequencies are going to be more present and the bass is going to be reduced. This allows you to hear a lot of nuances when gaming (such as reloads and footsteps) but makes explosions and gunshots not feel as impactful. I also found it has better imaging and directional sound. Along with sounds being a bit more accurate.
      The Blackshark V2 X is more bass focused. Meaning that gunshots and explosions sound better. Voices also sound a bit more realistic. But I had a hard time hearing reloads and footsteps. Directional sound and imaging were alright. With the bass focus sounds weren't as clear and could come across as muddy. Which is inherent of that type of sound profile.
      I'd classify the G335 as a "competitive" headset. As it will allow you to perform better in competitive games by giving you sound queues but may not sound as great for single player games or media. And will come across as kind of "muted" or lacking color or fun. I prefer this sound signature personally. Where the V2 X is not a competitive headset but a "entertainment" headset. Meaning that sound is going to be more colored and fun (which most people classify as being a better sound even though you are hearing less things as the bass can mask things) but not as sterile/accurate for competitive gaming. Hopefully that makes sense.
      So, in the end it really comes down to which sound profile you prefer.

      @ThomasMuehler  Před 2 lety

      I don't know what you mean by your ASUS thing.
      The headset name (G335) won't show up under your sound settings. In order to do that it would need to be a USB device that has firmware associated with it (so it can tell your computer it's name). But since the G335 is only using 3.5 mm it will instead be under whatever your soundcard name is. Which is the AMD and/or Realtek/Asus stuff. The particular name depends on your system.
      I would have figured you would have chosen the correct option. But you shouldn't have any echoing. So there is something not setup right (software wise most likely over a defect). I'm wondering if under the microphone tab you accidently have it set to something causing a loop. Or some weird thing going on in your soundcard. I'd unplug and replug it back in and see if that fixes it. Also make sure it is fully plugged in. Also, restart your computer. You'd be surprised how many times those three things fix issues.

    Great review! I've got 2 questions thought. I don't know if you've specified and I wasn't paying attention but do they have surround sound? 5.1/7.1? And how does the mic sound so good in your review? I've watched 2 more reviews for the same headset and the mic wasn't so good, but still your review answered most of my questions.

      They do NOT come with 5.1/7.1. However, they do support it as technically this is done by software so any headset is compatible. If that makes sense.
      As for the mic. I don't know. I think the tone of my voice just does well for most microphones. As I didn't do any post processing or anything. Just raw recording.

      Depends on what you are using it on.
      1. Make sure it is fully plugged in.
      2. Depending on what you have it plugged in you may need to use the Y Splitter.
      3. If you’re on a laptop sometimes you have to tell your pc the port is using a headset/microphone. Usually under like realtek something.
      4. Try it on a different device to see if it works. Such as your phone (I’d it has a 3.5 mm port).
      5. If none of that works then it may be defective.

      @ThomasMuehler  Před 2 lety

      @@vutranhoang6197 Most microphones will have difficulty blocking out a fan that is blowing directly at you. As it will need to have some type of noise cancelling to prevent that.
      It will also depend on the polar pattern of the microphone. With Cardioid/super cardioid/ hyper cardioid being the best. As it will reject sounds coming from behind it. I'd recommend if the microphone is on the left side of your face to also put the fan on the left side (so it is blowing on the backside of the mic) as that will help reduce noise.
      I haven't experienced cross talk in my headsets. I'm also not sure if crosstalk is due to headset as much as it is the device it is plugged into. As usually the device it is plugged into is having an issue over the headset itself. Can you try different headsets on whatever you have it plugged into and see if all of them have crosstalk? Also, I'd plug it into another source and see if it has crosstalk across the board or not. Last, you could get a ground loop isolator which may reduce/eliminate crosstalk from happening.

      This headset comes with a single 3.5 mm 4 pole aux cord. This means it has stereo (left/right) and microphone attached to it in a single cord. Depending on your computer you may have a single port that can read all three (L/R sound aka headset and microphone) or it may be split into two ports one dedicated for your microphone and one for your L/R sound (headset). If you have the one that has the two inputs (microphone and headset) then you need a Y-Splitter which takes the single 3.5 mm 4 pole aux cord and "splits" it into two separate inputs (microphone and headset) so you can have both at the same time. This is usually color coated so you know which end to plug into which input. This headset DOES come with a Y-Splitter so you can be set for either setup (a single or dual input) so you can chat and hear audio at the same time. Your current headset also has that capability given you have/get that adapter.

      As mentioned in the previous comment. I think the Razer Blacksharks are better for IMMERSIVE gameplay. As the bass and mids are more substantial making it so sounds can be a bit more impactful and get you into the game. However, found the directional quality to be subpar. And the treble to be poor as the other frequencies dominate.
      G335 is better for COMPETITIVE gaming as you can hear treble (reloads, footsteps, nuance that a dude is about to get you) better than the Blacksharks. However, the sound is a bit more neutral as the bass is very light making it so sounds can be a bit strange sounding at first. As you are lacking a lot of the bass and mid region.

      Personally, my A10 Gen 2 and a lot of people in my comment section have balancing issues (one earcup being louder than the other) added to have extremely small earcups makes me not want to choose that one. So, I'd probably pick the G335 as the winner. As it has great build quality, a solid microphone, is super comfortable. But the sound is more of a flat profile. Whereas, I think the sound (if it works right) is better on the Astro's overall. But comfort can be super hit or miss and I don't think the microphone is as good.

    • @ThomasMuehler
      @ThomasMuehler  Před 9 měsíci +2

      I wish I could give you better information. But I don't play that game so I don't know.
      What I can tell you is that
      1. This is a bass light headset. I expect engine noises to be more bass than anything else. The bass here is very accurate though (in the sense of you hear it, but you don't feel it). Which could be a positive.
      2. I found the directional sound to be good. Which is why I label it as a competitive headset. So, assuming the lack of punchy audio isn't a deal breaker I do think you'd be able to hear where engine noises are coming from.
      3. To elaborate a bit on the lack of punchy audio. Not really a negative. More a preference thing. Where certain headsets are more balanced or mixed in a way to highlight certain things. The sound from these is good but is tuned in a way that it falls a bit flat. Which again, bodes well for competitive where your main focus is performance. But not good for immersion or critical listening (for say music).
      If you pick them up I'd love to hear your thoughts on what you think and if you agree with my findings or not. As I'm always looking to improve my recommendations to others.

      No, it sounds like you've got a defective mic. As it should be plug and play. If you have a different PC (or console) that you could test I would try that just to confirm. As if it is still messed up there then you know it is the headset and then I'd go through either the RMA process or if you can return/exchange that may be faster.

    • @ThomasMuehler
      @ThomasMuehler  Před 2 lety

      It has a treble focused sound. Meaning highs will be prioritized, then mids, then bass. So it will be very bass light. I find it to be great for competitive play but not so much for music, media, or single player games. Just because it being treble focused changes the sound to be more clinical over relaxed. But I wouldn't say it is muffled at all. Also, I wouldn't say it has bad sound either. Just treble focused which some people like and some people don't and due that may say it sounds bad.

    • @ThomasMuehler
      @ThomasMuehler  Před rokem +1

      For my ears and preferences the G335. As it is a more treble focused sound. Which in my opinion is best for competitive games. As bass tends to be overbearing which hides audio cues. As you usually have more bass and mids which can make things muddy and not separate sounds as well. With the G335 having being slightly anemic in bass it allows you to better ear footsteps, reloads, and other competitive audio cues. But also doesn't sound quite as impactful and immersive as a more bass heavy headset. I'd argue the G335 for the most part has bass and that bass is accurate. Just not thumpy or rumbling. I also found the directional sound to be more accurate and easier to differentiate with the G335 over the BlackShark.
      Which ever one you choose I'd love to hear your opinions on why you chose that and your findings just out of personal curiosity along with that helping others with the same question.
